US-52N runs right by my plant and is one of my preferred stomping roads. A bit too much traffic some afternoons, but hit it on a Saturday morning and it's pretty clear for 90 or so miles north. For being in the midwest, this is one heck of a fun road. Lots of turns, lots of hills. Couldn't find where I posted the original picture, but the first pic I ever took of my Cyclone was in front of this very rock, about three and a half years ago. People will most definitely come" In 1989, the Lansing farm, in Dyersville, was where Field of Dreams was filmed. The farm is still there, along with the field. A few of my co-workers have kids playing in Little League, this is one of the fields they play at regularly. The Lansing family keeps the place up, all based on donations from those who visit.  The field on the other side of the power lines running down the middle of the diamond is owned by another entity, but that is another story. Just think a corporate entity making profit on third base and left field while a family tries to keep the house and their part of the field intact based on donations... More to come. Jim, I've got room for you anytime you want to come out. They had a 15th anniversary celebration and have a photo collage from that. Next time I'm out that way (tomorrow maybe), I'll snap that and include some of the history from a flyer I picked up. When you're here, bring a ball and bat, the field is open to the public all summer, except when the lil tykes are playing. Glenn, It puts a big smile on my face all the time. I do have the downfall of taking it to work every day and showing up 3 hours late. I still miss the Cyclone (we've bonded a bit and have that stored at Mom and Pop's place still), but the 'Bolt handles like no other and turns heads like crazy too. Love it to death. Only have 3500 miles on it so far, been working too much and have a lot of weekend projects at the house. I'm planning on riding to Mt. Rushmore sometime this summer to test the 'tourability' of it. Have a blast at Laguna! Can't wait til next year with a whole lot more vacay. Imagine the possibilities! | ||

Alex: Is Galena awesome or what? I did some stuff with an old Buell there looooong ago and the red brick building looks much like the B&B I stayed in. If you ride East out of town several miles, you'll find a very tall wood U.S. Park Service Ranger Station. They use the the tower to watch for forest fires. Somewhere, buried in all these boxes, are some dandy pics of "Buells yet to be seen" shot from atop that tower. Keep'em coming kid..... Court | ||

Alex you already know the answer to that one. Remember 1500 miles in four days through the worst temps and did great.  Well after I learned how to fill the gas tank anyway!  I'm sure it'll be fun to reprove it to yourself again tho. | ||

Court, Haven't heard of that particular tower serving as a fire tower. My understanding is that is was built purely to serve as a scenic outlook. But since you let the cat out of the bag, I had to go and snap a few pics anyway. That particular portion of 20 is another one of my favorite roads. From the tower, you head south on the Great River Road to Sabula, cross the river and head north on the Iowa side on 52 past Bellevue and St. Donatus. Tapley Woods, a 260 acre wildlife area.   | ||

And of course, Galena. It is a very cool little town, lots of historic buildings and places to visit. The whole town looks like it was transplanted from the late 1800s.    Seems this weekend Galena is THE place to be, lots and lots of traffic and people everywhere. I'll snag another weekend to take some pics of other parts of town. | ||

We will plan it, they will come? Hey man, anything is possible. I've been working on doing a weekend run here, just haven't found the right time to do it yet.We've got kick ••• roads here, I've got an awesome view, can cook and beer flows freely. Heaven? Still deciding. I'm babysitting the house I'm living at now, considering buying it. Just need to decide just where I belong right now and for the next few years. IAMike has been here, it's a pretty cool place. I'll find out from Jim when the next Field of Dreams game is and take a few pics under the lights. Oh, and Ferris, it's a baseball field, don't know if'n they'd go for that softball slow pitch stuff... Have a good time at Laguna, wish like mad I could be there. Galena’s a great area – good ridin, entertaining destination – in many visits, I, too, have managed never to get into Grant’s home, which means, of course, I have to go back ;-} Everyone should look a little closer to their own areas – I’ve lived in Chicago-ish for most of my life, but had never been to Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesen, his estate in Spring Green Wisconsin – My wife is a knowledgeable Wright afficiando, and sweet talked me into the ride up (bout 90 mikes on the slab, couple of hours in a entertaining manner). I’m kickin myself for never ridin in that neck of the woods before – it’s goreous Here’s a shot of the area, with a nice example of the roads to be ridden  Use of native materials, allowing the house to blend into the terrain was a specialty of Wright’s, and still a good idea, I’m thinking  While the house is very large, and tall in places, it seems to hug the ground   | ||

The large porches and entry ways are sposed to draw you into the house  About halfway through the tour, I had an epiphany – the source of all sorts of bad 1950s house design became clear – think bad garage doors in suburbia in the 50s/early 60s – good example of copying the details w/out grokking the entire idea, methinks  Designy-type shot – OOOoooooo. Next, we road a bit to “Little Norway,” mostly to see a specific structure . . . . more good roads and riding, many grins . . . . . Pack Buells and the smart, good looking member of the clan  This copy of a Stavekirk (Stave Church) was built in Norway, (modeled on an early house of worship), dismantled and moved to Chicago for the Columbian Exposition – it changed hands a couple times, went walkabout, and landed here, in south central Wisconsin – having seen the original, I can tell you it’s a very faithful copy   I’ll not bring up the irony of pre-Christian symbolism on a Christian Church, but it sure is eye-catching, yes?   | ||

The door and door posts, indeed, the entire joint is very heavily carved   I’m glad I don’t have to maintain this building – I have a feeling the work never stops   This was left over from the Mid-Sommer celebration that occurred a few weeks ago – a nicely cleaned-up version of the tradition was shared all and sundry {grin}  Yet another kind group of folks offered to prove we were there – for a while, I was thinking we’d just run into a buncha really nice people, then it occurred to me that we may be seen as that nice old couple of the sleds . . . … nah  At any rate, there are likely similar treasures near your home base that you’ve never seen – get out and about, talk a look, and discover what’s around the next bend | ||

The next time you guys are out riding and heading down Rt 84 south from Galena, stop in Savanna and grab some pizza at Manny's. Its great to see pics of home by the way. Being stationed down here in Georgia, I miss the scenery from time to time. Maybe when I get back up there next summer, I can meet up with some of you guys for a ride. | ||
