Yes, there is an actual place. I happened to stumble across it in my Rand McNally mapbook.

Here is a little photo montage of the trip. I am no Ferris Bueller, that guy is just excellent with his word choice and ability to take fantastic pics. A word to FB, thanks for the inspiration.

The weather started out nice, mid 70's and overcast. About 30 minutes into the trip the rain began. Yep, that little groove on the back of the Select Seat, it does funnel the water right down your butt crack.

Been awhile since anyone got gas here.

Hmmm, not quite like the windmill farms in Cali! Kinda ironic that the battery in my mp3 player went dead while taking this picture.

I followed Rt 36 from Altoona thru "The Weather Capital of the World"

There are a lot of these fiberglass Punxy Phils all through the town, each painted differently to match the sponser. This was the only one I saw with the sunglasses and camera.

Yes, you can still find vintage tin around. Under the blue tarp is a 1940 Ford Deluxe coupe and the second picture is another '40 Dlx with either a '33 or '34 Ford 5 window coupe. None for sale.

Nine miles north of Titusville, PA on Rt 89 is the Village of Buells, PA. Signs are located on the north and south side of "town" on Rt 89 only, not east and west.

Not much of a "Village" this is "the" store at "the" intersection. The store had about anything you wanted, 87 octane only, kerosene, nuts/bolts/rope/springs, hummingbird feeders, rifles, hunting knives, camo gear, hunting licenses, Pepsi, deli, clothing etc.

While looking for more town signs one the east side of town the laundry was out/up. This line must have been 75 feet from the front porch to the tree, and completely full. It looked like a Mennonite/Amish family, so I tried not to get any "folk". One of the young men was mowing the entire front yard with a push reel mower.

After my "adventure" to Buells Corner, I stopped at the Col. Drake Museum just outside of Titusville, PA. Col. Drake was the first to "strike black gold" The first well produced 20 barrels a day, wooowhooo! Col. Drake and the company he worked for was out of business 3 years later from increased competition and an over supply of crude that the price dropped significantly.

Inside the museum, I am presented with a dilema... Do I or Don't I?

Yes, I did!

Not sure what kind of plant, but the leaves were huge.

Last little tidbit I found amusing, is this what they mean by "found on road dead"?

Toona,

I'm from Erie and haven't been to Buells yet. I've been to Drake's though, still have one of the little bottle of crude they sell, bought it like 8 yrs ago. Were they open?, if so dd you go on the train tour (think they offer one if I recall correctly). Additionally, if I recall again then well is still operational? That is a very relaxing and scenic place. Good on you!

Kyle, I saw the train station, but didn't see a train, maybe on an excursion? There was a barrel next to the oil rig that looked operational, but no operator there.

Very nice Toona! Thanks for taking time to share your photos.

I went to high school in Girard, PA, up near Erie. Never did visit the Drake well. Very historic place. Been to Titusville a number of times. Paddled a canoe through Oil City on the Allegheny River a couple times.
