Cool thread Jim.
When I get back home, I'll see if I can find a pic of a scrawny 18 year old with his BSA. Sure couldn't afford a Harley at that age... : (

Here's a good one; Riding in the CO mountains with the Elves in 2002 - the now famous SACBORG salute:

An nice group of friends.Especially since most met first on the net,and then met in person to forge lasting friendships.

Oh yeah, '86-'92 sportsters SUCKED because of the STUPID stator setup.ANY increased performance tended to flex/short the stator.
WHAT WERE THEY THINKING! Yeah...i had an 89 incher, and always kept a spare rotor.

Every once in a while you get the oddest of combinations... A fireman from California working on a GSXR from Oregon in a garage somewheres in the stick of Indiana. All brought to you by motorcycling.

Ferris have this thread sent to the Tale Section. I thinks it's done all it can do over here.

Thanks, JB2

Angela,

Thanks for picking up on the spirit of the thread. I have thought of a book and Ferris and I B.S.ed about doing a book together. I've actually got a couple chapters nearly ready but it's a time consuming labor of love. With all the projects I have laying on the table it won't be anytime soon. I'm still creating content! ;)

If I make it Florida anytime soon we'll hook up and by the same token if you pass through Indiana the offer goes both ways. We've had some pretty cool folks from the world of Buelling and motorcycling stay at our humble little home.

Ferris, thanks for the heads up.

Henrik,

Friend, you too have captured the spirit of this thread. Thanks so much for your contribution. I've done tarp detail a few times myself. It's a never ending job.

JB2,
What's the story with one Don McCaw from Deere? Got a cool email from him last week:

Alex,
I work in Waterloo on natural gas engines. Just spoke with Jim Bantz and thought you should know that there are others @ JD that know what a Buell is. Hope your new job is going well.

Haven't got around to calling him and talking bikes, on the list for tomorrow though!

Alex,

Just connecting dots my friend. Don is a land speed racer from a long ways back. I'm working on two land speed bikes now. One belongs to Fireman Jim and one to Snail. Don did a ton of research and development on the RR1000 bodywork. Long story short... I was able to obtained some of this very rare and very slick bodywork for FMJ and some goodies for Snail.

A couple of weeks ago I called Don to finalize one of the sales. What was intended to be a ten minute call turned into one of those magical calls that went well beyond an hour. During the call I found out he is an engineer for JD and it seemed wrong to not tell him about you.

Anyway, he is very knowledgeable in the older Buells and very easy to talk to. I'm looking forward to our next call so I can pick his brain some more. Hope you get the chance to talk to or meet him. Let me know when you do.

Jerry,

Actually there is a class that you would fit nicely into. It is an "open" record.

No one has run in it yet so you could be first. 1650 cc P-PP. Need a stock appearing pushrod engine of between 1351cc to 1650cc. No visible alterations from stock. Call Aaron if you would like to go fast as well as set record.

Best of Luck
Paul

Diablomichael and I shared a kd100 kawasaki (orange) as our first bike. It wasn't
much to look at, but it ran. We would ride it back and forth in the field across the
street and behind the neighbors houses. The seed of motorcycling was planted in our young
minds. I was 10 and Michael was 8. Those rides are some of my fondest childhood memories.
Even though it ALWAYS seemed like he got to ride longer than I did.;)
