That price is nutz. I paid 1/2 of that for sturgis & got better entertainment.

But Dyna, this is the Harley 100th. ;)

I know a few people thinking about putting ads in the paper to let people camp in their backyards. I also read in the Journal/Sentinal that there's a realitor setting people up to rent out their homes for the week. Going rate - $1200 for a three bedroom, one bath.

And whats going to be so different about the 100th? Same crap we had for the 95th, the 90th, etc. Just bigger crowds this time.

Supposedly the milwaukee county sheriffs have been told to expect upwards of 1,000,000 visitors. Yes thats 1 million during the week. Had 700,000 for sturgis in 2000 & it sucked.

Sometimes the internet just doesn't convey tone, let me restate:

--Heavy sarcasm--
But Dyna, this is the Harley 100th.
--end of sarcasm--

I understood the sarcastic tone, & I completely agree. Its assinine & people will actually pay to stay an hr away from Milwaukee on county fairgrounds. I think anyone who does should also get a free pysch test to see just what the hell is wrong with them.

Its just a machine & only the engine & tranny were made here. Your bike was "born" either in York PA or KC.

Ah, Dyna, I see you left before the washing cycle was completed. ;)

The true followers will be on the NorthEast tour ride, for they know the true path.

Hey, I was down at Hal's on Friday afternoon and saw something actually kind of neat. Not real keen on the color, and didn't check the price, but they had a tent in there with a people part, and a bike garage attached. One of the people there said you can even get a remote controlled lantern so that as you approach your tent you can click-on the lantern so you can find which tent is yours. Not sure about the lantern, but the tent looks okay. I'm thinking of keeping my eye on the post-party and post Christmas sales to see what the price gets down to.

Ah well, whatever floats your boat I guess.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all up for a celebration, I was just blown away to hear that you can rent out your house for over a grand. But, because it's the 100th, for some people, money just becomes no object.

That any different than the folks who ante'd up $15K for a 3-day weekend at the San Diego Superbowl?

If there's a "meeting of the minds" twinxt buyer and seller, I could care less.

Tent?....Tent?.....hehehehehe...."roughing it" = room service that doesn't serve 24/7.

When you consider what they'll be getting it isn't all that far out of line for price. Go to any major resort and you can find rooms in hotels for $100/$300 a night and up. For the $1200 you get probably Wednesday thru Sunday nights at $240/night which gives you a private bed and bathroom, television, cable tv (required to list through the rental agency), free local telephone (required to list through the agency), and clean sheets and towels (provided by the rental agency so the home owners don't have to provide personal sheets and towels), a full kitchen, and a garage (also required by the rental agency I believe). The only thing you won't have is room service, but that can be taken care of with a quick call to the local Pizza or Chinese food place.

I liked the one comment in the JSOnline story:

Quote:

She has no fears about returning home after the big party and finding oil stains on the carpet or tire skidmarks on the linoleum. Harley riders just would not do that, she explained.

"No one's going to take their bike into the house," Schmidt said. Schmidt and her husband, David, likely will not meet the renters, but she already knows they will be kindred spirits.

They obviously haven't met some of the people I've met. Overall a good bunch of folks, but there's always a few .... :)
