Well, Scott was kind enough to lead the way to "The Dome", but little did I know he would take me through Tehachapi Pass and the Mojave freakin' Desert! Cool Windmills though : ): )

The Party deck at the Dandy cabin.

Goldilock's view from the top of Big Baldy mountain.

Ebear and The Tree !

What the heck is growing out of that tree ?

The Great Crock Hunter at work ;>; )

Big Bad Aprila and an even Bigger Badder Tree.

Me, the S3 and The Tree

And of course The Ice Cream Social along the way.

Duck,

Beer-thirty is at Karl Straus brewery located at 9675 Scranton Road after work on Friday. It is near 805 and Mira Mesa Blvd. I'll be there ~5:30 to 8ish. Give me a call at work 858.450.5921 if you can join me and a few of my buds for some tall frosty ones.

Reindog/Forger/Tom.

From Joanne:

Thanks for all the warm wishes – I really appreciate it!! The doctor was completely blown away when he saw the x-ray after his initial exam (as was I). I thought they must have substituted the x-ray – there was no way that was my shoulder! Anyway, as soon as I got the splint on yesterday, the pain started subsiding to a dull ache. But I guess there'll be no dirt biking for me for a few weeks.

Lessons learned on Octoberfast 2005:

Don't leave your motorcycle gear unattended even for a moment in Porterville, Ca.
Protective gear = Good. Sand = Bad.
Street bikes handle sand much differently than dirtbikes (the Uly might be an exception to this rule).
Ya never know where you’re going to see a Spiderman, so look carefully.
It’s more fun to impress a riflery instructor than a doctor.
Great folks make it all worthwhile.

Despite my mishap, I have to say, I think this was the coolest ride ever. The people involved were without exception, the BEST: Ferris (who needs tread on the sides anyway?) and Denise (hostess extraordinaire), Ebear (mechanic extraordinaire), Tbear and Sandy (such a pleasure riding up with you!), Charlieboy and Elizabeth (Did you know “Peggy” is a legit nickname for Elizabeth?), Forger and Laurie (who drove the truck back via the Bostrom – we could have fried an egg on those brakes!), RREater (ping-pong awaits next time), Duck (see you tomorrow!), USRoute 66 (cracking the books soon – yea!), Dino (I wish Char could have made it!), Danny (wish you had stayed the night), Fireman Jim (thanks for the coolest shorts around!), Jim (I knew those bottles made it up to the lodge!), Brett (thanks for the call yesterday), Al (I still trust you completely, sweetie!) and everyone else who made the trip so special.

And not only were the people special, but the ride there and back and the destination was too… Zach and I enjoyed swinging a golf club, lots of ping-pong, paddle boats, canoeing, catching minnows, hiking, and were even joined on the riflery range by shooters extraordinaire Duck and RREater (who found out my aim isn’t too bad, even if I'm not Army or Navy). Zach enjoyed a 4 mile hike to some waterfalls while Al and I went off on our ill-fated motorcycle trip. There were plenty more activities to choose from: archery, tennis, rock climbing, and horseback riding to name a few, just didn't have time to do them all. What a cool place.

Thanks again, everyone – your well wishes mean a lot to me!

Joanne

Yeah E-Bear..just what setting did U have that dash computer set at? U think we are living in England? I think Warp2 has got you pegged dude. I saw 110 myself...but math was never one of my strong points.

Joanne...considering your now known condition, it is hard to believe that you were still you're fabulous self...smiles among hurt and all. Must be your conditioning you received at VPI!

Corso, it's called "Trying to Keep the Bloody Bastards at Bay!"

this is NOT one of my prouder moments, especially since i admonished so many people this year to make SURE they had enough rubber to get thru the weekend.

RR, now you can show your buddy that you CAN wear out the sides of a tire before the middle.

hmmmm, can you imagine the trouble i could get into on Yokohl Valley Road on his CBR600? : )

I think you sprung a leak!

ya can't catch me 'cause the rabbit done died!

Maybe you should try turning left more often Ferris.

the left side of the tire is just as bad, it just doesn't show up in the photo.

this really is embarrassing. i was flat broke after FBRAT (*beyond* flat broke, actually...), and am still catching up. i could not afford a front tire, nor did i have time to mount and balance it.

i left for Oktoberfast knowing the tread up front was real skinny, but had no idea i'd be cornering on nothing but steel belts by the time me 'n D got back to the 'Dome.

for those of you who wondered aloud during the weekend about being able to ride my arse, well, my advancing age had something to do with it, riding two-up and loaded on a 609-pound (dry) motorcycle had something to do with it, and knowing i had to nurse an ailing Metzeler Z6 all the way back to Lake Isabella had something to do with it.

and...it could be that you all are getting better, and i'm not.

anyway, i pride myself these days on being "professional" when i ride, but my front tire at the end of Oktoberfast gave me away, i'm afraid.

don't do as i do, do as i say, or something like that.

Wycked, when you're back in the wind and have a few days, give a shout. i've got a 300-mile loop laid out that will leave you breathless.

just be sure to bring good rubbers. : )

our friend Dino has been unusually quiet.

oh, sure, he's posted a few pix and words, but we all know he's capable of more, MUCH more.

i suspect it's on account of Sierra Art Trails 2005 going on this weekend, which may also explain Charlotte's conspicuous absence during Oktoberfast.
1
this is a cool deal, represented by a hundred or so extremely talented artists, and Charlotte and Dino's home in Mariposa will be open for "Trailies" this weekend as Char shows off her paintings and Dino shows off his photography.

i mention all of this to give our two wonderful friends a well-deserved plug, and to buy Dino a little time.

i bet after this weekend he's got some (potentially embarrassing) photos from O'fast to share.

XOXOXO,
FB&D : ): )

Actually F & D....I think the thanks is the other way around...

Thanks to F & D for the use of the Dome as Party Central...thanks to F & D for those that needed to spend a night after Oktoberfast...like me!

And, thanks! What is interesting is, I have owned bikes from almost every manufacturer there is, but friends I met though the ownership of my Buell (which I no longer have), have long since outlasted whatever ride I was on at the time. I am brand loyal to no company, but I am very loyal to (and enjoy) my friends.

D...thanks for the biscuts and gravy!

Yes, the thanks go to those who made the miles of smiles possible. I guess that's all of us though huh; since we just plain enjoyed eachothers company so much...I miss O'fast too!

Eliz (Peggy, LOL! She'll hate that one!) showed off her bruised knee at work the other day. I thought it was cute. I replaced the peg when we got home and she's ready to ride again.

Tomorrow I compete in a Firefighters muster to benefit the AZ burn clinic. Wish us luck. The civilians think it's unfair that we're competing cuz we're in better shape LOL! Joanne, too bad the Marine wasn't present to learn ya some sight alignment and sight picture. One shot, One kill! It doesn't surprise me that you shot well. Believe it or not, women usually outshoot men. Men, don't pizz your women off!!!

Those few pix to follow, promise!!! Laters!

QQUACK.......INDEED...!!!Maybe this means DUC wants to bring us all to North Geogia and show us better????....Im ready!!!!!...(once I figger out where Goegia is!)or maybe... BRATPAC-2006 and "ISLE OF MAN-2007..ANNIVERSARY!??
...We are working out a plan for 2007 to go to the Isle Of Man for the anniversary of the longest running TT in the world....I've been dreaming of seeing this event since I was a little boy.The last few years have helped me understand the fraility of human life, therefore I've decided come hell or highwater (or the "Low Road" ); I was going to be there once in my life.He we are approaching ...2007 and it's that time.I love my brother and so this will be trip of a lifetime with him since he has not been to Europe yet.So my plan is to get there (London) and spend time with long lost friends in the "Center of the Known Universe"...catch a train to Liverpool(wanna stay off the A1)and after securing 600s for the lot, ferry over to the "ISLE" Sleeping arrangements are being secured and ANY help from our Friends in the Kingdom would be Greatly Appreciated, in all phases of this trip!!!!We hope to spend perhaps the 11 thru the 15th day in Scotland visiting Sandy's people and heritage(The Wallaces)and then return to the "Isle" for the Races. We are hoping our friends will have enough time to plan with us and make this an American Assault on the Incredible Isle of Man TT of '07!!!

We are hoping our friends will have enough time to plan with us and make this an American Assault on the Incredible Isle of Man TT of '07!!!

EBear, me 'n D want to go. the trick will be whether we can come up with enough scratch in 2006 to pay for the stuff that needs to be paid in advance for 2007.

our two "biggies" in '06 are Laguna and BRATPAC, and we hadn't planned on having to cram additional work to begin funding a gig that doesn't take place 'til 2007.

that said, we have talked fondly about the Isle of Man in the past, and we both want to go there at least once.

we will try VERY hard to make '07 the year, and heading over with a bunch of you would be AWESOME. we're gonna hafta work like crazy (which won't be any different than usual) to make it happen, and will need you to provide solid trip details (especially the $$ stuff) just as soon as they become available.

um, can we call this little enterprise the "Isle of Manliness"? ; )

Dino, nice pix, thanks for posting, hope the Sierra Art Trails gig has been fun and successful so far. hi to Char. : )

Duck, i'm pretty sure Dino got the UlyKooler on film, er, pixels.

please keep in touch as best you can as your trip continues. it was sure fun to be a part of it. : )

Okay, so I've finally gotten to where we departed the 'dome. At this point we've successfully navigated the Bostrom Hwy (Hwy 155) and are about to partake in a light repast in Glenville.

After a bit more spirited riding, the group swaps lies in Yokohl Valley.

There seems to be some confusion as to the next leg of the ride. Oh, hell, let's admit it...it's just a pitifully confused group.

Even in bucolic Yokohl Valley, national security is a priority. This guy was about 10 ft up a utility pole. I'm not sure to what extent his effectiveness may have been adversely affected by the nail thru his chest.

O'fasters inspect Duck's well equipped Uly.

Like any bike intended for long distance travel, Duck's Uly has been equipped with certain, ummm, comforts.

Kind of an artsy-fartsy shot. I was thinking that Buell might want to use it as an advertising shot for Uly optional equipment. No?

And, of course, it ain't a party without some tunes!

Yep, gotta hand it to Duck, he goes first cabin!
