One question about staying at Nellis. I'm planning on coming into Vegas later at night, prolly about 10-11:00pm. Will that be a problem with security if I'm not with the rest of the group? |

Ferris,
It looks like Dave and I have all your paperwork completed for the trip. I sent license plate, proof of insurance and sales paperwork to Dave this morning. He should have it Friday or Sat.
Trying to figure out a plan to get to Appleton on Sat., doesn't look good right now, depends on how much I can get done this weekend.
The new XB12X was the first 2006 motorcycle titled in Willmar, MN this year. Small towns can be cool.

Jerry... It looks like Rachel and I will not make Vegas on Thursday night. Sorry I'll miss the festivities. I'm still trying to get everything straightened out for Octoberfast though...
In any case... We'll probably ride to Vegas Friday morning and stay Friday and Saturday nights.
Have a good time at Nellis. That sounds like a GREAT deal of fun . |

we'll need to leave Vegas EARLY, and we'll troll the Strip one time for photo ops before aiming for Death Valley on beyond.

Paul,do you live in Willmar.My aunt and a ton of cousins etc are in Willmar.My mom grew up there.Aunt is Colleen Smith,cuzs are Jeff Smith(now in Alaska),and Maureen (Smith)Gillis.

hey Don, before i TOTALLY lose my manners...
...just wanted to publicly thank you for all the effort you've put in to the Las Vegas leg. you've worked harder than anybody, including spending a day to ride up there from AZ and do recon, and i just wanted to take a second to say THANK YOU!
i'll keep fingers crossed that we cross paths in Vegas, and look forward to riding with you at Oktoberfast.

The SoCal Flying Circus contigent is shaping up for Buelling Man.
Yesterday, I rode up to San Berdoo on the back of Al Lighton's Uly to pick up mine. Instead of returning to home base via I-215, we "accidently" took a wrong turn and ended up at Idyllwild right at nightfall. The XB12X handles nicely and it was the perfect way to start the breaking in period.
There are now at least three Ulys in the SoCal squadron awaiting the rendezvous with Fearless Ferris. |

FBRAT would be totally triumphant if the road show could somehow wind its way to the Scottish Highlands.
Laurie and I did England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Ireland, and Wales in a whirlwind eight day adventure. We bookended that trip with visits to as many London pubs as I could stagger into. While in Ireland, I attempted to drink every pint of Guinness on the island.
Unfortunately, I gotta dial in the tensioner on the Uly as a result.

Not a problem Jerry . Just glad I could make sure I at least had a contingency plan in case the Nellis AFB thing fell through. You're quite welcome.
I got to see Hoover Damn, I got to run the strip once on my Buell (Note to self... Don't try to ride from the southern end of the strip to the northern end on a Buell at 5:05 in 105 degree heat, and leaving Vegas anywhere from 5:00-6:30 is a bad idea), I got to run it up to the rev limiter just for fun (again ), I got to enjoy a few of the cooler roads in NW AZ at night and I finally got aroung to figuring out what sort of fuel mileage I'm getting (46-52).
All in all, I'm glad I went and I had a good time . |

just off the phone with Josh, and Nellis AFB for Thu 9/8 is a GO.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i need a head count for our stay at Nellis that night. also, if you are planning on visiting us on the base that evening, we need to know, so that passes can be waiting for you at the gate.
Josh will be leading us on a guided tour of the flight line that evening, time TBD.

I helped Mike get the isolators in his bike and hope he will be good to go for the trip. Also hope he gets to go all the way to Vegas.

Way to go. That is too cool. Will the Thunderbirds be there for those staying the night? (I have to break off at Cedar City )

To all those staying overnight at Nellis:
You most likely will need to have proof of insurance on you in addition to your registration and drivers license. At least that has been true for me every time I have gone onto a military base.
But y'all probably already knew that. |

Your are correct.
Every rider (-passengers) will need liscence, insurance and registration.
passengers over 16 will just need picture id.
I will post the final details for the nellis stay in the next couple of days. Right now I have it requested that we should all be staying in rooms near each other, doubled up btw though if you would like your own room let me know and I'll see what I can do. The rooms do share the bath room and shower with an ajoining room though I have requested that our rooms should be ajoining each other.
Once you have your vehicle and visitor pass you can go on and off base at your discretion, and for those of you coming later on you'll just need to stop off at the gate to get your pass.
Anyway i'll be in and out tonight if you guys have any other questions.

We looked into partying on the strip and those plans didn't pan out. Bummer.
Nellis? Flashing lights and casinos? What happened? This will be, by far the coolest place EVER to say during a bike trip. Wow. Josh, thanks for setting this up and taking care of our group of hooligans while we are there. This is freakin awesome!!!
One week from now, some of us will be camped in Appleton, WI, having a few brews, kicking tires and telling stories. I can't wait! |
