try this again...
Down the road early enough that the temps were cool, the bike purring, the road calling...

Ascending to 9200 feet slowly, deliberately. Into the clouds. Tincture of pine.

What treasure around the next bend? Awww... a bit of color... a patch of flowers...climbing more..more color, more light...yes..... raindow on the ground...a meadow, and yet another.

One is calling.

Here... We stop. Gingerly walk through the meadow...so afraid of injuring the tiniest of beings...so afraid of damaging the prettiest of flower.

We sit. My best friend and I. After some time he talks, in reverence, of this man, Gordon Buhle -whom I have met only in passing a couple of times... and I come to know Gordon Buhle.

A man of a true heart. A man I would have been honored to call friend....

I sit alone for a bit. I wander. The tadpoles in the stream bring back wonderful childhood memories. The butterflies dancing around me make me smile ... another very happy memory of The Butterfly Dance - a Navajo ceremomy. I laugh aloud at the ladybug who has landed on my fingertip for a brief rest.

I stroke the fluffy white flowers (name unknown)...remembering my companion of 22 years. When I first found him and raised him by a bottle I knew he would not be with me forever... feeling today he has forgiven me for ending his misery...

Feeling blessed I have my best friend at my side today and while he is suffering, and I feel that pain...

Thank you for the ride, my friend.
Thank you, Gordon Buhle.

To the friends of Gordon Buhle-I did not know Gordon, but I've spent the last 1/2hr or so reading of your love, friendship, respect, and sorrow.I swear I can feel your grief through this screen, and I am so sorry that this has happened to you.Gordons worries are over,it's you who hurts now.If it helps at all, remember that this caring, loving, helpful, beautiful guy could've had anybody he wanted for his friends, and he chose you.You guys sound pretty special yourselves.Remember Gordon often, every now and then ride with your passenger pegs down so he can ride with you if he wants.Ride safe, and enjoy each other-R.I.P.Gordon Buhle

That's all there is to it...the Ulysses ride HAS to be dedicated to Gordon...what else could have he wanted?

Very very nice Ferris and D'. What a beautiful place. The frog is so symbolic of the cycle of life. How you found such a small little creature that sits so softly in your hand?

Look forward to seeing you on the Uly ride...and certainly the legendary Oktoberfast!

I am going to ride on Sunday to meet up with the C-3 group. I will ride with my pegs down to honor the passing of someone I did not know, but feel you pain as well. I am sure that Gordon was with you today, the pictures speak no doubt. On your upcoming adventure, I am sure he will guide youthrough the rough. Be strong, From what I have read, that is what he would have wanted.

What I see happening here wrt to a man who has touched so many fellow enthusiasts and has departed in such an untimely way seems eerily similar to what transpired after the death of Don Murray, drummer for the Crossfires, Turtles & Sufaris in 1996. All kinds of leading instrumental surf bands broke no bounds to be a part of a magnificent tribute concert "A Surfer's Paradise" that happened at the Strand in Redondo Beach in 1996. 500 people attended that "Mother of all Surf Concerts." No, I wasn't one of them then, but I am now. What I mean is that it seems like Don's passing has gelled the entire (surf music enthusiasts) genre and given it new life. Since that time I have tapped into that resurgence, met a lot of the local bands & made new friends close to the instro surf scene. What a trip it is turning out to be!

I'm stoked to see tributes to Gordon happening spontaneously. This can only mean that there is a whole community rallying behind him. Imagine if we could rally 500 motorcyclists in his honor -- what a trip that would be!

Just thinking out loud, suppose we dedicate a ride in his honor and pledge donations to his family or cause?

first: thank you to everyone who took a moment to read this thread and post a few words. today was much easier than yesterday, and, as it always seems to be, kind, soft words are so miraculously powerful.

second, to my friend Denise: your words above are as beautiful as you.

Denise lost her first post last night, one she had worked on for a considerable time, with considerable emotion, and in the process of editing her post it vanished.

she was heartbroken, for herself, for Gordon.

and she was afraid the moment was gone.

i encouraged her to try again, while her thoughts and feelings were still fresh and vibrant.

she did, and the quiet magnificence of her words humble me.

third, to Sparky: i'm aware of several things going on right now to pay tribute to Gordon.

on another thread here on the Quick Board donations are being accepted to have a custom paver made for Gordon at Laguna Seca and their "Steps to the Corkscrew" campaign.

there is also a ride coming up that Woz and others are helping to organize in Gordon's honor. again, there's a link with some initial information here on the Quick Board.

i have dedicated my upcoming cross-country Ulysses adventure to Gordon, and hope that i get many chances to talk about him with fellow riders as i make my way from Wisconsin to California.

but - and i hope you understand - i do NOT want to solicit donations in Gordon's behalf during the ride.

for one, i don't want to handle anyone's money. it's a personal thing and i'll just leave it at that.

i also don't want people to feel "obligated" to dig into their wallets or checkbooks when they see me.

if folks want to do something "tangible" for Gordon, i'm all for it, and perhaps a donation to the Laguna Seca paver fund would be a good option for them.

Blake has to be very careful about BADWEB being used for fundraising, and if you or someone else wanted to organize a ride in Gordon's name to help generate donations, i think it's a wonderful idea and Denise and i will help any way we can.

you have our full support and assistance.

but Blake would need to be in the loop and in agreement regarding the details of the effort, that is if BADWEB were being used as a vehicle to help spread the word.

i respect the position he is in, and i respect his judgment and integrity in these matters.

in closing, each one of you has helped by taking a moment of time to speak from your hearts. every word has healed, and i hope Gordon's family gets to someday read your posts.

Sparky, PLEASE run with your idea. get Blake involved, make sure you both find a place you're comfortable, and get BADWEB and the rest of the motorcycling community involved.

there are a lot of friends here, willing to help.

say the word, tell us what to do, and we'll be there.

ride in peace, Gordon. i will not forget.

One word,

Love.

I'm sure theres one person here whom I've met, but after reading these posts, it seems I've met someone who's no longer with us. I've met him through the words of his friends, and loved ones.

Jerry, man, even though I never got the chance to meet Gordon in person, in life, it seems I've met him through your words. The pictures you took, you said "pale in comparison", never. Pictures taken are what you see, and never are they any better, or worse than someone elses. You took these in honor of a friend, a loved one, so these are the most beautiful, fantastic pictures that can be taken, as they were driven by emotion, not just timing.

All I can say, is I'm truly sorry you've lost someone close to you. It's never easy, but it gets easier. Just keep remembering the good times, and everynow and then.. do something spontaneous, do something Gordon would have done. Then laugh with him about it.

To Gordon's Family,

Again, I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. Nothing I, nor anyone can say will make this easier, all we can hope to do is help wipe away some tears, and be there when you need it. Just know that you have more friends than you know, right here. Gordon will be remembered, as a person and a friend, not just name.

Rick_a (member here) and I and a few others are going on a ride on sunday. I too will drop my passenger pegs, and remove the cowling in memory.

Gordon,

Wish I could have met you. Seems the impression you made on the people's lives you touched, will be a life long one. You must have been a beautiful person, both professionally, and personally. Keep both hands on the sticks and keep kissing the mirror man..

Ride on.. Ride on.. Rest when you get where you're going.. wherever that buell takes you.

-Ryan

Thanks Denise. I don't know you, never met you, but thanks - Gordon would have loved the picts. His family is logging into this site, I would assume daily (not hourly, like me). I cannot get away from the PC. Love to all... monique (gordie's former wife)
