FB...

Great adventure!

Watching for the finalized times/meet points on the California leg/s. I'm certainly up for the Crest etc south.

Might also be able to make it over to do some of the Utah/NV stuff, not sure.

UT map check. Looks like it's no more than 40 smiles farther to take UT 24/12 instead of 70/89 getting to Panguitch. OK ok, it's ~39 miles farther.

225 miles via 24/12 (yeehaw)
186 miles via 70(beautiful)/89(yawn)

(hint hint)

ps: i need help with our stop in Las Vegas!

i don't have any good contacts in Vegas, and we need help with arranging the get-together and lodging that night (Thu 9/8).

what would be COOL is if we could get together enough enthusiasts together to rent a suite right on the Strip. it wouldn't take many people to bring the cost right down to nothing.

anybody know anybody that could take lead on this stop for us???

Russ, points well taken, and as you may remember i had to bypass UT 12 on my Out of Words trip last September, both eastbound AND westbound, due to time constraints. and, you should know, it was YOUR enthusiasm for UT 12 that made we want to ride it so badly in the first place. : )

so, what does your *internal clock* say about getting from Grand Junction to Las Vegas, via 24/12, in a *timely* fashion, i.e. about 6 p.m. or so???

i suck sometimes.

i could NOT do this ride without the love and support of my beautiful friend and partner Denise. she's gonna whack me when she reads this, i bet, but then i hope to get a warm smile and a big hug for having turned the spotlight her way for a moment. : )

the amount of work she has put into this ride so far is incredible, more than most of you will ever know.

we're both buzzed as she will be riding with me for several days on the journey, which will be great fun for us, and we'll also be able to comment with some authority about how well the Ulysses handles long days on the road, two-up and loaded.

anyway, i suck for not having said this sooner: without D on my side - heck, on OUR side - this ride would not be.

FB1, Hey, I'm approaching 30 years of marriage to my dear wife Kim and I know you're not cooking up anything alone. Fact is I'd bet most men here know you've got support, encouragement and permission from your better half. It's good to hear she'll be providing two-up analysis for part of the trip.

In the beginning it appeared that your launch would be the last week of August which made the short trip to Appleton a must do. But with it falling on Labor Day weekend I'll have to bow out since I already have a BRATPAC II recon ride inked for that weekend.

GO FB&D!!!

JB2 -- thanks for your words. D hasn't read any of this yet (i can tell because i haven't been whacked!), but i know she'll appreciate what you said. : )

bummer 'bout being so close and missing you, but know you've got a full plate doing the initial legwork for BRATPAC II. as push came to shove the FBRAT gig HAD to launch on Labor Day weekend, and i hope that the fact it's a holiday weekend will make it easier for more folks to come out and play.

have a great, safe ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway -- can't wait to ride it again with you, and doing it in two weeks (instead of two days) is gonna be GREAT! : )

I'm reasonably certain me and possibly Rachel will be meeting you in Vegas ; ). Will Denise be with you by then? I figure we'll hang out with you through the Buelling man fest and then head back this way : ).

Which Ocotillo Wells will we be at???

Don, excellent! know any Buellers in Vegas? a place on the Strip would be SUPERB!

re: Ocotillo Wells, i believe "B" on the map is where we'll be - EBear? Al?

we'll be camping in the desert, so you'll need to pack accordingly. Al and Joanne Lighton from American Sport Bike will be hauling in some supplies (thanks!), and there is a store and restaurant very close by.

EBear or Al or Joanne, can you chime in and give some more details?

Buelling Man. be there. : )

Crap... I only have a 12R...

I don't have a tent, but I'm sure I can pick one up. Sleeping bags however... That'll be tricky two up on an R.

Hmmm... Lemme do some figurin'.

What about at Lake Isabella? Camping there too?

If so... Does anyone that will be there have extra space in their tent? I can probably bring a blanket etc in a backpack... If it's only room for one lemme know.

I'm sure I'll work it out... There is a will : ).

Oh, and yeah... There's the "Vegas Bueller's" storm fronts. Maybe post the itenerary there?

Oh wait... It's here...

Don, ship your stuff ahead of time to Al and Joanne at American Sport Bike? clear it with them, of course, but i bet they'd be glad to help!

stay at our house (the ThunderDome) at Lake Isabella on Fri night 9/9, no camping necessary.

have posted the ride info EVERYWHERE on BADWEB (ask Blake, he will confirm : ) ), including Vegas Storm Fronts, no response yet.

Bueller? Bueller?

Dave, you only have to get as far as Appleton H-D/Buell on Sat 9/3 to get in on this Great Adventure. everything beyond that is just icing on the cake. : )

thanks for the kind words, very much appreciated. : )

FB and Russ, are you talking about 24/12/89/9 eventually spitting us onto I-15 down by Hurricane?

Looks like good country, I've not been that way for about 20 years or so, so I don't know what the roads are like - should be beautiful scenery though.

Time off should be approved in the next day or three. Guess I should tell my wife...

UT 9 would take us thru Zion NP (and Hurricane), which is indeed spectacular, but slow. doubtful we'll have THAT kind of time.

Count me in!

I'll try and scrounge up some local boys for your Colorado leg. Meeting in Limon might be a tough sell (I'm game). I'm sure we can find some Buellers to meet in the Springs area for dinner, lies, and beverages.

If I can figure out a way to justify it, I may tag along as far as Vegas, although I was just there in January. The memory of being kicked out of a fancy- bar (with my Dad!) in Treasure Island is still pretty fresh. I wonder what the statute of limitations is on...oh, never mind. ; )

Chainsaw, it is EXCELLENT to have you on board. would be great if you could partner up with Don Casto and TBear on this. let me know how i can help, and thanks again for your enthusiasm and support. : )

Topeka will be locked on.

The WORLD'S MOST AWARDED Harley-Davidson dealer will have the same pit crew (Bruce Zimmerman and staff) that supported owner Mike Patterson (racing for C. L. Canfield racing) to many 1st place finishes, waiting at sunrise to perform the 1,000 mile service on the XB12X.

I may be there too.

Plan on having a camera, doubtless one of the most impressive Harley-Davidson stores in the country.

Court, this is grand news!

this was one of the "black holes" left to fill on this ride, and one i've been doing some considerable fretting about. i've been asked by quite a few folks if there would be any high-mileage days on the Ulysses, as its worthiness as a "long haul trucker" is an important purchase consideration for some.

well, on Tuesday September 6th i'll be riding from Kansas City, Missouri to Cripple Creek, Colorado -- i.e. i'm about to find out.

and in the above western MO to eastern CO scenario - unavoidable, yet perversely desirable in this case - getting the bike serviced and back on the road in record time is CRITICAL. there will be a phalanx of riders waiting on me in Manitou Springs, Colorado that evening to see The Ulysses and i do NOT want to let them down.

Court, you rock. Topeka H-D/Buell, you rock.

i suppose i simply could have said "Thank you!" and left it at that (for now), but i think you know me a little better than that. that i could even call and ask this favor means the world to me, and to get up this morning, my head instantly swimming with to-do's that need to be checked off The List today, and read your post, well, this is simply wonderful news.

the Ferris Bueller Rides Again Tour is happening, people. it's happening because of all of you. it's happening because Erik Buell and the men and women in East Troy have refused to quit. why, it's just frikkin' happening!

Court, if i don't see you sooner, i'm looking forward to a "speed visit" (is such a thing even possible between us???) with you in Topeka.

thank you. : )

ride to lean. ride to roost. ride to ride.
