Here is some pix's from my recent trip to Cottage Grove, OR. I grew up in this little part of the southern Willamette Valley of Oregon and it was great to be able to spend 10 days showing the family my old stomping grounds.

Home for the 10 days that we were at the lake.

Hey, very cool. My aunt was on the city council in Cottage Grove at one time! Perhaps even mayor at one point, can't remember.

Pic #3 is a killer!

cool back story: Jim calls me on his cell phone from the lake pictured above, about the very moment the sunset pic was taken, amped about where he was, and ALSO amped about where me 'n D and Unibear were at that exact moment.

we were, at that exact moment, just back to our motel room in Monterey and had the very enjoyable opportunity to inform Jim over the cell that NICKY HAYDEN HAD JUST WON MOTOGP AT LAGUNA SECA!!!

sorry about the momentary thread theft, Jim. that pic means a lot to ME, too. : )

Maybe we can trailer the bikes behind the F-150 to save on my wrist.

WOW, then I could bring the RC trucks to compete in the hill climb!

The 4th day's adventure was a very emotional one for me (for a couple of different reasons). We were making our way to Crater Lake National Park. I spent 7 months of my life there back in 1992 as a Engine Forman/Wildland Fire Fighter. It was the first time I had been back there since 1992. Being home was starting to feel very good! : )

Wizard Island which formed after Mount Mazama (now Crater Lake)blew it top 5,000 years ago.

Looking up at 1 of 2 fire lookouts within the park. I can't not begin to tell ya how many times I have hiked up there.

On the far peak past the rim of the lake is the 2nd fire lookout. If memory server's me right, it was a 5 mile hike up the hill. I use to love sitting up there, not only for the view of the lake and the Klamath basin to the east but for the Peregrine Falcons that use to swoop in and play at the look out.

Took this shot for Jerry and D. I managed to give them a quick hello! : )

What a perfectly wonderful vacation and thanks for sharing it with us. Happy campers and pooped puppies. : ) Does it get any better? Would be extreeeeemly jealous if we hadn't been in Monterey at the same time. So, have you hugged your tree today. : )

Jim - Seems like it would have been in the 70's that my aunt, Betty Horvath, was on the city council.

Speaking of small worlds, I just shot the moon the other night. The images are on another computer or I'd post one.

Your shot, Wizard Island from the other side, is a stunner!

Dino,

Next time I am in CG, will have to ask some of the oldtimers I know and see if they remember her.

I have another moon shot you might like coming up in the next few set of pic's.

Thanks for your kind words on Wizard Island. Wish we had more time there, could of filled up a couple of CF cards. : )

Didn't do much picture taking on day 5 of our trip. Was still trying to recover from the previous days adventures but on day 6, I sure made up for it!

Cottage Grove has a annual event called Bohemia Mining Day's. Its a celebration of the gold that was found in the later part of the 1800's about 50 due east of the town.

It basically consists of a parade and a gathering in the park.

put brief text here to describe your pic

This was a very plesent sight to see. I use to coach all of these great people in basketball back in 1988 and 1989. Both years they took the gold! The little short one on the far right is Monica (use to be my sister-in-law. She is one of the greatest people I know and always has a big hug for me whenever I see her. : )

My man Smokey! I couldn't let Smokey pass the lens without catching a quick pic. It was pretty hot this day, felt sorry for him. I have spent many hours in the suit, it can be tough at times but all of the smiling little kids and the hugs they give Smokey always made it worth it!

After the kids finished cooling off in the lake we picked up Shel and headed back into town for the celebration in the park. As Shel and I were walking around, we caught a sight of a person that we recognized from TV and movies. It was Jessie James (West Coast Choppers) ex-wife.
