on Thursday night during the MotoGP weekend someone pushed my FJR over into Unibear's XB12 at our hotel in downtown Monterey.

i'm inclined to assume this was a random act of unkindness, but if you've got evidence to the contrary i'd appreciate hearing from you.

Why do people do this type of thing?

Looks kinda like the FJR just got a bit lonely. The stout little bellering Buell said, "lean on me big guy." Kinda touching really. Might even make the "Parting Shots" page in Cycle World.

Or, could it be a great big giant cosmic HINT of things to come there FB. Your FJR leaning to the right and onto a Buell? : ) I vote yes. : )

Or is the big FJR trying to show the Firebolt that it too can "ride to lean"?

Pretty amazing that the Firebolt/Unicycle didn't also tip over.

Seriously though, could it be that rather than an intentional tip-over the FJR might have been accidentally nudged by the bumper of a car that ran wide turning to go up the parking ramp? Of course absconding without leaving contact info would have been intentional and a very poor decision on Jon's part. joker

This guy looks guilty as heck to me...

A man possessed?

Well, I uh....uh...well see, I'm pretty sure that I didn't do that...I mean I'm almost positive that I did not do that...

I think the Xb jumped sideways and pulled the FJ over...you know as a joke.

this was deliberate. perhaps random, perhaps not, but it WAS deliberate.

wasn't funny at the time (we got an 11:30 p.m. call from the front desk that my bike was "leaning" on someone else's motorcycle), and isn't any funnier now.

probably random, but if anyone has any evidence to the contrary, i'd appreciate hearing from you.

minor cosmetic damage to both bikes, we were both real lucky in that regard, could have been much worse.

it's the principal of the thing that really gets me. i've opened my mouth enough times between here and the "other" Buell enthusiast board to have made a few enemies, but to with a guy's bike, and even worse, to with Glenn's bike, truly one of the nicest people you'll ever meet, is chickenshit.

but, i'm prolly just being paranoid. it was almost certainly random. if anyone has evidence to the contrary, i'd like to hear from you.

Gotta push you a little here old friend...

Certainly you are under no illusion that our world is rife with scumbags and jerks. Life's too short amigo. Forgive, forget and let it go. You are living a great life. I know cause Denise told it to me. : ) Save getting really bothered for when/if anyone ever tries to tip Denise over. That would justify real anger.

I still say that the guy in the pic above is still the most likely candidate. He smokes big fat ceegars and everything, just like those nasty characters on the Sopranos.

Blake, you and Denise and i hung together all day Sunday at the track, cheering Nicky to an unforgettable victory, and i'm quite sure i appeared relaxed and happy and content, especially after some of that 151 you were packing. : )

i waited a week to hang the pix above, trying to figure out what, if anything, to say or do. this seemed like a pretty benign way to go about making the incident public. i'm not presently losing any sleep over this, but the fact is that SOMEONE did this...

...well, i'll just leave that at that.

Glenn and i were INCREDIBLY lucky for our bikes to escape with only minor wounds. the potential for serious, expensive damage was enormous, and that's one of the things that still spins me up so much. the difference between "prank" and "catastrophe" in this case was measured in fractions of an inch.

now then: REALLY enjoyed finally meeting you after all these years, and i truly appreciate the "old friend" comment above. looking forward to swilling some more of that Texas Tea with you next year at Laguna.

FB

ps: trust me, Denise can take care of herself. : )

Hey Jerry,

Let it go amigo. You will never know who did this...but God does.

You can't touch this, so be thankful it wasn't worse... a whole lot worse.

Sorry to see that Ferris. Somebody egged my wifes Rally Sport Lancer the other day. I only bring it up because it made me know how you feel, she worked her butt of for that car, and some punk almost ruined the paint. ( I caught it in time).
I wish I knew who tipped your bike over.

Maybe the road hugging capabilities of the low un-sprung mass sporting ZTL system on that Firebolt is what kept it on its wheels? (sorry, I've been reading the thread on Erik's presentation).

P.S. Pretty cool that you let all the positive stuff about your trip out first, and let it stand alone on the other thread. Were there no cameras in the parking garage? Not that it would help- I doubt bro that this was anything but random.

How the heck did the big FJR keep from going all the way down. It almost looks like a trick photo. Did it hang on the right side mirror and windshield, against the Firebolt's seat? That is pretty amazing. If that was done maliciously, I bet they were thinking they would get the big unicycle to fall domino-like.

Unibear confided in me the origin of his nickname. That kills me. If my local riding buddies get wind of that, they'll be calling me the Uni-ape. LOL. I can live with that.

Kudos to you for enjoying life like you do. I felt like we owned that track. I'm pretty sure we can wrangle up a big screen TV and a portable satellite system for next year. We just gotta ensure that our amazingly benevolent host, Jerry (big) Johnson, keeps hold of The Shack and continues allowing us to exploit his property and hard work and considerable time and investment.

Sorry, nother topic for another time.

Back on topic...

See how Jon is trying to talk you out of revenge/justice... it's a sure sign of guilt if ever I saw one.

Seriously, we'll run this incident over next year with fellowship, good food and fun. Jerks abound unfortunately.

We were very lucky indeed.
The majority of the weight was taken by my seat and Jerry's (thankfully) stout windshield. First though his right handlebar grip bounced off my rear plastic by the seat and then went through the center of my rear foot peg mount to finally rest against my swingarm. Being trapped in the foot peg mount is what I think kept both of the bikes off the ground. The smudge on the plastic came right out with Novus. Two tiny, nearly unnoticeable paint chips WILL be unnoticeable when my touch up paint gets here.
Jerry's damage was about the same.

Still it was a real CS thing to do. Personally I think a few sportbikers got their pride hurt on Hwy 1 Thursday and this was their payback. If you can't beat em then break, dent or scratch their bikes! I didn't know it was that important, I was just having fun keeping up with Jerry.

Glad my nickname tickled your funny bone Blake! Looking at Jerry's pic of me at Parkfield with the tail bag & backpack and it's easy to see.
Btw it was great to finally get to meet you!

i appreciate the positive comments, guys. no doubt it was malicious -- try picking an FJR up off the sidestand and you'll understand. Sandblast, the motel we stay at has security in the parking garage during Laguna weekend, but they don't come on board 'til FRIDAY night each year. sorry to hear about Leah's car, glad you caught it in time, and thanks for the positivity of your posts.

Blake, it was INCREDIBLE that both bikes didn't crash and burn. it took an amazing amount of luck for the damage to be as minor as it was, for Glenn's bike to stay standing, and for my bike to stay (mostly) off the ground. karma, perhaps? whatever, we were blessed, and it's part of the reason this whole thing is easier to take than it might of been.

Jon, i think i've done a pretty good job in this thread demonstrating that i'm not wound up too bad over this deal, but "letting it go" is always easier to say and do when it's the "other" guy. life goes on, i'm happy and contented and mighty lucky to be partners with such a beautiful woman (hi Denise!), but i guarantee i'd vent some frustration, if you catch my drift, on the punk who did this given the opportunity. had it been YOUR bike, you'd feel the same, right? regardless, thanks for your comments and concern.

to close on a positive note, Laguna Seca this year was nothing short of amazing, and to have been there to see Nicky OWN the place all weekend, in the company of so many good friends, was an experience Denise and i will never forget. Glenn, SO glad you got to do the weekend, glad we could be a part of it with you, and very glad to call you friend. : )

ride to lean, y'all.

Yeah, Jerry probably said "let it go" too many times...Mostly just fooling around. Yeah if it had been my bike I think I would have been "stewing" for a while! I would also NEVER go back to that place. Just the way I am.

Cheers

Hi Jerry...Condolences on the incident and pray it doesn't cost much to get it back to new condition.

Have seen many similar incidents in the past and they weren't malicious, just plain stupid.

In essence, some passerby admires your bike, sits on it to get a feel for it, then his foot slips, he gently eases it down in the direction it was falling probably rupturing himself in the process and then beats feet before he gets caught. If it was just dropped or knocked over both bikes most likely would have sustained more damage.

I realize this doesn't help much as the damage is done. I just think it would have been a lot worse if it really was a malicious, rather than stupid, incident.

Hope it helps you to consider it could have been caused by and ignorant admirer, than a jealous and malicious arse.

well, if the admirer DID suffer a rupture in the process, well, then, yes it helps.

thanks Bill. : )
