Screw MotoGP and Laguna Seca!...

I got to meet THE Tim Horton! Did you know he played pro hockey?

The man!
The man himself!

Careful Tramp, you'll be drafted into custodialship? (or does that end with a "t"?) : ) Good call, thanks, and... done! : D Your thoughtful suggestion is most appreciated.

Snowdave,

Cheese dude! Gotta try to make the best of every moment. The scenerey was outstanding. I liken race-day at Laguna Seca to a sporting event cum adrenalin-rush spectacle encompassed within a serene zen-like environ. And California girls are right friendly, sometime naughty. No I did not take pictures. :nono: But I have a great memory. joker

Really, the races and the results were nothing short of epic from where I was sitting. Anyone who thinks the race was dull hasn't seen Rossi come from ten seconds back to win a race. I have. I also saw Rossi and Edwards going hard at it. And I say Edwards gaining on Nicky by around 0.4 seconds per lap for three laps in a row. yeah, I was rooting for the Texas Tornado 1st, Nicky 2nd.

I usually gripe about guys driving around with their truck tailgate down. Not sure I'll ever do that again. How about you Jim? ; )

You know what, the race could have been rained out and we been stuck in the mud, and if all I got to do was meet up with all the great people of American Sport Bike Night and BadWeB and all points in between, my trip would still have been a great resounding success.

Dave, I'll post up one of my videos from the turn #1 exit. Be sure to crank up the volume before hitting play. : ] Pretty sure that if you play the video a few times every day, the whiny gripy stuff will soon subside. That's my prescription and prediction anyway. : )

Next year I'll be staying one more night in camp at the track (thru Monday morning). You oughta try that too.

Well, okay, I do have just one complaint and you might be wise to be wary of it...

When I awoke Sunday morning, there was a surly faced fireman in my tent! You wanna trade a few hours of traffic jam for that experience? Done! joker

Thanks JimA for playing personal tour guide and outfitter. Please also tell Mary-Lou mucho thanks for her warm hospitality. I'll get your $79 donation to the FX Buell racer award fund posted asap. Thanks for that too.

This was so epic, it deserves its own main topic...

Pretty cool, Timbo. Now if you could only Photoshop out the bridge entirely... in real life... and the tree too! That would be cuell.

Snowdave, you're just pissed 'cause you didn't have a bike. There's an easy way to fix that for next time. Plan ahead!

Seriously, we enjoyed a fantastic weekend of great races, camping, riding & partying with fellow BadWebbers.

Yes, I am pissed that I did not/do not have a bike here. I swore at every biker I passed today driving down Highway 1. You would think I would take solace in having a $70k convertible, but it doesn't hold a candle to an $8600 bike.

loved every minute of it except parking, 3.5 hours to get out of the parking pasture and .5 hours to the Hwy = 4 hours. didn't mind to much, took a nap in the car while waiting.

How do you guys see the comparison between AMA Supers and the real deal Moto GP now. I know in the past plenty of you have down rated GP compared to the AMA's you would have a direct comparison on the same track in the same weather conditions how did the lap times compare etc.
I remeber when Nicky went Moto GP he was at the top of the AMA heap at the time but he has now steped up to the next Level. I watched it live at 5am down here and enjoyed the race and felt that the US one two was as good a result as any one in the US could wish for, cant wait fro Octber at The Island for the boys to do there stuff down here.
As to gripping about the time to leave it is an International problem, one year at the GP in Australia when I left in the van straight after the race I spent 6 hours travelling 9 kms just to get of off Phillip Island. I always stay the night at the track and leave 6 am the next mornning.
Congratulations on the return of Moto GP to the US and any bets on the winner of the next race.

LOL!

Too funny Blake. It was great hanging out and walking the track. Just soaking it all in. I enjoyed every minute of the weekend. Getting to meet so many BadWeb'ers that I've only known by their posts, and seeing friends from past rides.

The entire weekend will be a highlight on my memory reel!

Sparky! You noticed! No one else said anything about my previous post, so either it was too subtle, or too "dorky". Here is a close up, just in case. And if it's just dorky, then...oh well.

Some more pictures...

Sparky having fun

The Love Shack veranda (Al, EBear, Sandblast, Lea and TBear)

EBear!!! (wonder what he's scoping out?)

Sparky reported twenty two bikes in our camp at one point.

Our tent city next to the Love Shack above the Corkscrew. Awesome!!

One last shot. This was overlooking the track early Thursday afternoon, before the crowds arrived.

I have to say the races rocked last weekend. It was my first time and I was expecting a lot more crowds. I was camping at Toro Park and took the shuttle every day, so can't really comment on the parking at the track. I have been to many other concerts and public advents that were much more of a cluster than Laguna was. Woodstock 94, Boston Pops 4th of July show, and Lollapalooza in RI come to mind.

Went into town on Saturday night that wasn't too bad either only took about 5 min of driving around to find a spot. I was expecting it to be a little more like Daytona bikeweek with less Harleys. That surprised me in a good way.

Rt. 1 on Friday was insane, 100s of bikes blasting north not letting campers or other cages get in their way of fun.

Can't wait for next year already took the days off from work.

Keith, sorry we didn't hook up during the weekend. we spent almost all day Sunday at the Love Shack, looks from the pix like you were just across the way.

sure was fun, sure happy for Nicky, and for America. : )

ps: Highway 1 on Friday is a traditional part of the weekend for many, us included. skirmishes, knife fights, hand-to-hand combat, top gear roll-ons (the FJR usually wins this one), all great fun. : )

Blake,

How about those two girls on the back of the pickup truck?

One unzips the others top and starts kissing her chest. Where was my camera when I needed it? In the backpack in the rear of the minivan.

They said they just wanted to get our attention. They had it the second they jumped on the tailgate in their cute little shorts.

Then the police bike comes up flashing all his lights, and sees how cute they are, and just drives away.

You just can't make stories like that up.

Jim

You guys just gotta wait til I can post pics of our 3 umbrella girls. Jensen knew one from Phoneix because she's a sportbike rider and she said she had another 2 girlfriends who wanted to be a part of this AMA SBK thing. Most other teams had to PAY their umbrella girls! Not Scott Jensen.

We had people stopping by all day just to have their pictures taken with them wearing those JQMoto hot pants and tops.

They got a lot more attention than we did in our black T-shirts.

Jim,
They were looking at you. Pretty sure they didn't know I even existed. And between you and me... when referring to hot babes, it is always "breast" not "chest." ; ) I hope I didn't hurt their feelings too badly when I told them that they were "naughty." Hope they didn't hear me giggle like a school boy. But I should have been used to such intense babelyness, I finagled a spot next to Denise on the porch of the Love Shack. Pretty sure she heard me giggle like a school boy.

Sure was great to have a chance to visit with Snail. Funny how things work out sometimes.

Paul,
Plenty of us have downrated GP in favor of AMA?? Not me. AMA over WSB yes maybe, but not MotoGP.

Better would have been Hopkins and Roberts 3rd and 4th. : ) I was thinking that Hopper would show himself well at Laguna.

If I recall correctly, the lead qualifying time for the AMA superbike race would have been good enough for the MotoGP grid and ahead of some MotoGP entries too. Pretty impressive.

Keith,
Do you have any of your video uploaded to the web? I still need to upload mine. The best ones are when I caught the MotoGP qualifying flying out of turn one into turn two. Nicky was the only I saw who kept the throttle pinned through that section. Amazing.

Well it's a given that when they go to 800cc in 2006 that Moto GP will be slower (for a while at least).

I hope given the point you raise Blake that this doesn't have a knock on effect to Super Bike racing given how fast they are.

I'm sure you recall me saying so when the late great Steve Hislop lapped Donnington on his British Super Bike faster than Rossi did that same year in Moto GP on his then new RCV211.....

Great stuff indeed and I'm all for FAST BIKES and not change just for changes sake.

Craig,

Thanks for the brews Saturday night. You had a great group of guys with you.

I had one of the best weekends of my life. I've been to Superbike weekends, but this one took the cake. The MotoGP bikes and riders have to be seen, heard, and felt in person.

The only change I'd make is to cut down every one of those GD trees that line the track and block the view of the Corkscrew and both uphill sections. You could double the places people can view the track close up with some serious pruning.
