Next YEAR!!!

I will get a call in the near future from Marriott Salinas with the dates of the race and then I can pull the trigger on a great suite like I had this year. I had a living room, kitchen and bed and bathroom. It ain't camping, but it was only a 15 minute ride away from the track. But camping is great too, I guess.

I'd like to hear the pro's and con's of each from anybody who went and did either. Me and my much better half are going next year.

I'll be camping : ). I just like the style and the friends and the bratwurst and the campfires and the atmosphere and the air and the sun in the morning and the breakfast cooked over an open fire and sleeping on the ground and

it was ridiculous for a fellah (and undoubtedly a cool and intelligent one at that)
to say that a wrold class racecourse 'sucks' just because he had a bad experience there in his single visit.
laguna is one of the very greatest tracks we have in north america.
you can have abd experience anywhere.
so it wasn't 'six flags' with huge parking lots and multilane inroads. that's part of the appeal, and part of the reason they can run so loud.
why let one guy, who visited one vent at a world-reknown track plaster a title like 'laguna sucks' on a site, privately owned and sponsor funded, for anyone with a mouse to read?
while i'm convinced snowdave is a gent and great guy, i think that one visit does NOT qualify anyone to judge a track, esp. by saying it 'sucks'.

Mr. Tramp, Sir:
I challenge you to sit in a car for six hours among other misqueues and have a positive opinion. At least I acknowledge that MotoGP and the race were awesome. I was just woefully disappointed by the lack of organization. I have been to many large events including a Pink Floyd concert that had 2x the attendance of the race and NEVER had problems like I did at Laguna Seca. I am no expert, just telling of my lone experience. Unfortunately, I have spoken to others that concur.

I don't doubt that, my man!
honestly, as I'd said earlier, I'd-a gotten there silly early and pique-niqued for a few hours, but being noone told you that that would be the best route, I don't doubt that I would at the very least share your frustration. i can't sit in traffic ofr 5 MINUTES. I just felt that categorizing laguna as 'suck'ing was a stretch...I'm sure you could agree if next year I talked you into going and we either
A: rode bikes (either motorcycles OR mountain bikes) in, or
B: hitched in from Ryan Ranch, just down 68. as I'd said, hold up a pice of cardboard with, say, a Buell or Ducati sticker on it OR a cold sixpack, and you're guaranteed an instant ride, then you can depart your new friends when you hit the traffic, and walk up the access road....trust me, I've done this for plenty of auto and cycle events at laguna... always a great time.

One thing that did bother me was the selection of chips provided by the catering venue. I have never encountered potatoes chip like the ones I ate at Brag's Chalet. I knew as soon as I saw them that I would have heartburn...I ate two bags...sure enough heartburn like you wouldn't believe...peppery devils they were.

I also didn't like the BMW guys having there pretentious parking area next to Buells. Their riding outfits made them look like LLoyd Bridges in a wet suite ala "Sea Hunt" with a sweater. Nice wine sniffers, though. How come the Brag parking didn't have Brea?

Yeah, I think after they cooked those chips, they got a nice dip in the grease bucket!! I almost needed some pumice hand cleaner to wipe it off!

When Jim and I saw that traffic was bad, we pulled over and got out, visited the paddock, were fixin' to crash the Red Buell party when Snail called. So we hiked back up the hill and met him for some more good time. Some people seem to get on a mission about getting home. Chill, hang out with friends, let the fools sit in traffic.

Jon,
As to camping... see the comments re the traffic. : )

I'll be camping again. All the great folks and warm friendly camaraderie were a real blessing for me. Awaking to the wonderful scenery and a view of the cork screw was too cool.

Jon,

There are good bathroom facilities with good showers in the camping areas, but you have to know when to use them.

I took a shower Saturday night after going to Cannery Row, and walked right in, no waiting.

Sunday morning there was a two-hour line.

One trick I learned was to use the showers and restrooms in the paddock during the day. 4 showers, no waiting.

Jim

Sponge bath. It is camping you know. Back to nature and all that.

I snuck out at night and marked all my territory. I now claim ownership of that entire track.

You know I thought I smelled something when I was talking with Jim Higgins at the Love Shack. I remember thinking, "Oh, my gosh...what in the world is that smell?".

..and handfuls of dried leaves for toilet paper.

OK- no matter where I'm residing, I'll make laguna next year, and I'll talk my family into letting some fellow Buellers stay up over...
