I could not ask for a more perfect place to live, I love my home town. I guess this will be a series of pictures I take as I explore Cd'A and the Cd'A area. Today I decided to go for a ride, and i brought my new camera. Here are the results. I decided to kick things off by riding down Lakeshore Drive for a bit.   I passed under Memorial bridge and headed up into the mountains.  After weaving my way through the mountain roads for about 45 minutes, I dropped back down to the Lake and began to follow it to Harrison (small town). You can tell we are going to have a bad drought this year, no snowpack = no water.  I made my way around the lake till I came to Beauty Bay.  Then I decided I would try a new road (and boy did it pay off!) and head back into the hills to Beauty Creek camp ground.  | ||

After the camp ground, the road narrows to one lane.  I continued up the ravine, and the forest became more and more dense/beautiful. Finally, I just had to pull over and explore on foot.  This is right below the road where I pulled over. I am very happy with the way these pictures turned out.      A bit of the forest.  Then I moved on about 1 mile up the road, where i found a huge tree (Very rare in north Idaho, most were wiped out by logging.  After many delays I finally made it to the top of the mountain. Forgot to add the frozen spring I saw, and the old mine that had been closed after 3 people died in it about 5 years ago. This ravine if covered in Gold and Silver mines from the 1900's, some of which are still open if you know where they are, and know how to use the proper equipment. Spelunking if fun. Thanks for the quick tour! Looks like a beautiful area. Your "after the campground, the road narrows to one lane" had me chuckling. You coulda been describing the new (to me) road I explored up near Yosemite a couple weeks ago. Your road looks to be in a lot better condition. | ||

It had some pretty nasty potholes from flood damage in parts, and some parts had been washed away entirely and filled in with dirt. The worst part was the random potholes placed in the least likely places. They were about 2 feet square and 1/2 a foot deep. A nice little suprise for me when I rounded a couple corners. After I got about 5 miles up the trail, I got out of the ravine and the road was in great shape. | ||

Couple of pictures of downtown Cd'A today. The resort, a necessary evil.  Hudsons Hamburgers, home of the best burger you will ever eat, so says USA Today. Few more pictures i have taken. First, a couple from a ride I took a couple of weeks ago. I went south 1/2 and hour, out of the mountains and into the plains.   I seem to be having great luck in finding fast, smooth roads.  I also got to do some fun dirt track esque riding, which concluded in me punching a pheasant (yes, i punched a pheasant).   | ||

My fastest time to draw from a snapped service holster and put two center of mass at 10yds with a cocked & locked .45 is about 1.5 sec. A bit faster with a Glock but I don't care for that weapon. All the SWAT guys handed me my butt with times of about .5 to .75 sec. Fun stuff. That looks like a fun course. (Message edited by unibear12r on March 30, 2005) | ||

Yeah, it was a great course, it was 1 out of 5 stages, and this was one of the more difficult ones. 13 targets, probably about 50 feet away at the closest. White targets are no-shoots, brown are shoots. A couple of the targets are very heavily covered. My favorite course involved Poker table draw. You start sitting at a large spool, with 4 targets stapled to the outside edge. 3 of them are center mass targets, 1 of them is head shot only. After engaging the first 4 targets, you have to lean to the left and engage 2 more targets about 25 feet away. After those targets, you run to your next station engage 2 more targets. Then you devoid your gun of ammunition, and pick up the shotgun. Hit 2 pepper poppers, and the 2 clays they throw into the air, and shoot 2 more targets 30 yards downrange with slugs. After that, finish off the last 10 targets with the shotgun.  I am probably about .5 sec. faster than you on that draw, but I dont use a snapping holster. My rig  Springfield XD-40, service model and a CompTac holster. | ||

Nice course, a little bit more intense than any I've shot. Springfield makes good stuff. Trigger safeties have never made any sense to me tho. I like the thumb safety for that extra thought during the shoot don't shoot process when it jumps out at ya. Still that looks sweet and I'd take it over a Glock any day. | ||

Looks like a fun day at the range. Have to agree with Unibear, Springfield makes good stuff. Really like the looks of the XD-40, first time seeing one, looks like it can get the job done and then some. It also has a slight resemblance to the H&K USP 40. Here is a shot of mine, its been collecting dust for the last 9 years. Ah, miss the days when I could drive 15 minutes and shoot all day long every day.  | ||

One of the main reasons i bought the XD was the lack of thumb or other safety. I like point and click, if you dont have the gun in a proper grip, it wont fire. Plus, i am left handed, so it makes thing easier. Shooting is defiantly an expensive hobby, but then, so is riding motorcycles. I probably shoot about 4,000 rounds a month through my .22 pistol, just working on accuracy and speed. That helps keep the cost down, and i only have to shout 200 through the XD. Save a lot of money that way. | ||

I've got some lefty shooting friends, I know of your pain M2J! H&K is good stuff too Pdx but I've not shot their pistols. I REALLY like their silenced MP5. Just the coolest subgun I've ever shot. Kinda nice to practice with the swat guys once in a while! Well not any more sense I retired from my LEO hobby. | ||

Uni, i too, have had the pleasure of shooting the MP5SD on multiple occasions, and i agree, that gun kicks •••! So your a retired LEO huh? Cool. Just Thursday I got to play with a class 3 M4, but just burst, no full. Still fun though!  | ||

Makes me long for those days in Kansas where you could own/carry a firearm to the farm and take kids shooting. In NYC even the mere mention that you might own any firearm will bring the NYPD to your door. Take a look at the reciprocity map on packing.org and you can see that the rest of the world told NYC what they think. Call me sentimental, but I am a sucker for a good ol' S&W 686. But, I love looking at the autos, just never been able to make up my mind twinxt the Sig, Glock and Beretta. Great Father and son sport eh? Some of my best talks with my sons, when they were small, were out at our farm, fire going, guns on the tailgate, taking turns shooting cans. Court | ||

i am with you.some of the best times with my dad have ben when we were hunting together,no matter if it was in this hemisphere or the other,or just out on the farm with a tailgate full of guns making cans dance,busting clay pigeons,or filling paper full of holes.ain't nothing quite like it. | ||

Truly. Hard to think of a better place than where I am at if you like guns. One outdoor rage within 5 minutes of my house, a bran new indoor range within 10 minutes, and another outdoor about 25 minutes away. Oh, and a very active shotgun club about 5 minutes away as well  . Some of the best gun laws in the Country as well. | ||

Today i took a trip about 30 miles north of Cd'A to Farragut State Park and lake Pend Oreille (pond uh-ray).  Panaram of lake Pend Oreille. http://img197.echo.cx/img197/5844/pendorvileforweb6hb.jpg Lake Pend Oreille, if i recall correctly, is the second deepest freshwater lake in the world. It is also host to a navy research base that uses the extreme depths of the lake to test new submarine designs, as well as new sonar. Warning sign.  A couple of subs.  what left of the limekilns  As a result of the limekilns, the the beaches on this corner of the lake are covered in waste limestone, making for spectacular white beaches. This is also a very clean lake, especially so at this end. No moss or algae in the water here.  | ||

Mutt2jeff thanks for the great pics of Pend Oreille, they remind me of my youth. My Grandfather use to take us camping at Farragut in the summers. That's where he taught me to ride his Trail 90, and so began my passion for two wheels. My Mom, when she was in high school, use to work at the store in buttonhook bay during the summers. My sister and her family live in Careywood, just northwest of Bayview off I95. Great pictures, keep them coming. |
