Hootowl,
I didn't say that the piston dome doesn't reduce the volume of air in the cylinder. It does. That is how it affects compression ratio. ;) But no matter the shape of the piston face, if you sweep it through a distance (the stroke) the swept volume (displacement) will equal the cross sectional area of the piston times the stroke. :)

Saro,
The dimensions above are for ambient temperature. At temperature they would expand right? :) You are really reaching on the heat expansion thing.

Regarding the noise made by the fan on an XB9R.Ihave not seen one with my own eyes so what I am about to put forward may not be possible.Could the blades be made with a scimitar or curved leading edge and also unevenly spaced but still balanced around the centre ? This may make the fan produce less noise and also flow more cfm.Just my thoughts after seeing some fans on cars.

Pilot/Ross,
I bet you are right. A little custom fan engineering would probably go a long way to quiting the XB9's fan. I know there is a huge difference between some bathroom fans. Squirrel cage fans seem to be the most acoustically efficient, but unfortunately they are not compact.

Alternately, do the race kit so you can't hear the fan. :D

Blake... I was just wondering. 83mm with two significant digits translates to a range of values between 3.21 and 3.29 inches.

3.3 inches with two significant digits translates to (obviously) 3.25 to 3.34 inches.

err... ok... you are right. Never mind.

(note to self. Don't argue with Blake when math is involved).

The RS kickstand works great, the S3 kickstand works great. What went wrong with the S2?

Man, it takes a hammer, a torch, a bench vise and 60 minutes tops to fix that kickstand.

Josh...

Look at the bright side. Should your springs sag (like a particular Kawasaki) it won't fall over all by itself.

So what's wrong with it anyway, looks like the sidestand is holding that S2 up just fine to me.;)

I think this calls for a front shot of the 3 side-by-side - but I don't want 'em arranged by year. We'll put DAve's S2 on the far right just in case ;)

Speaking of Kickstands, rode Kevyn's new 900SS on Saturday. Man that kickstand looks flimsy. plus if you're moving the bike from the right side you can't tell if it's down or not.

I recall stories of H-D corp having something to do with the cant and angle of the S2 sidestand, but I can neither confirm nor deny nor find a current source for what I heard, or didn't hear.

Has the factory considered an oil temp added into the display or self-canceling turn signals? My old Yamaha’s have the turn signal feature about 120 feet or 15 seconds. Both are in parallel.

The RSS came with an oil temp gauge. Not sure if the S2 had self-canceling (all HD have since at least 96 so maybe the 95/96 S2 did?).

>>>Not sure if the S2 had self-canceling

All Buells, until the 1996 S-1 Lightning (i.e. all "old" Buells and the 1995 and 1996 S-2) had self cancelling.

The 1996 S-1 marked the advent of C.E.V. (same as most Italian bikes with two differences - the "plug" in the left and the reversed operation of the "run-kill" switch) controls. 1998 was the last year for Italian C.E.V and from 1999 on Buell have come equipped with high quality Japanese units.

Ahem.

My RR1000 has the "hold'em" style.

On Harleys, the self cancelling thing came out in '91. 90's were the hold'em style.

Does my '90 RS have self cancelling signals? I can't remember.

My 91 never cancels the signal. Maybe it's broke.
So before the elec. speedo how did they time the flash?

ATT: BUELLers and to whom it may concern!!!!!!!!!
ie: OIL PUMP PN26204-98 on MODELS 1998/2002.
There is no screen over the uper hole on the oil
pump. If anything gets into the opening that locks
up or cause exessive drag on oil pump it causes
the oil drive gear on the pinion shaft to "FAIL"!!

Perhaps I should take your RS-1200 for a spin and check it out. :)

One to the coast and back should do it.....I'll go to the closest coast to hold the miles down...hehehehe.

I still laugh at what Erik said in 1997...."If Fran or Court as you to ride to lunch...ASK WHERE!"

P.S. - Do you need a set of Napoleons or have you found some?
