How many XBs or Speed Triples could someone buy for that much? Bikes that have a great reputation and probably handle considerably better. Someone do the math.
I guess if you really want to be "Different in Every Sense" literally, and you are really well off, that may be the bike for you.
Who wants to bet $20 that the company will not be around in 5 years. Maybe they can merge with Confederate Cycles, or Fisher, or MotoCyze etc. Anyone know anyone that rides any of these?

The $65K isn't really the point. If it can be built then HD can also build it, they could build it better and for a decent price. So why don't they?

The HD management team is really good at what they do but they just don't get anything except Fat Boys (riders and/or bikes). Anything that looks like it might have an ounce of Sport in it just isn't part of the HD equation.

Nice looking bike though. A little rough around the edges, but nice.

I agree with Firebolt. $65K can buy quite a few
bikes.

Ray,
I don't understand your bashing of HD in your post. The new street rod is quite similar to this bike and by all reporrts an awesome bike in its own right. I nelieve they really are trying to put some sport back into the equation. Now if it doesn't sell, then who's to blame?

anyone ever seen some of the original HD posters of the "new" OHV knuckle that set speed records in its day? the EL was the king back then, and the Motor Company took pride in that. then there was the XL being the fastest for its time, and flat track, and the VR, and now the V-Rods are taking no prisoners in drag racing and Buells are on the cover of Cycle World as possible Daytona winners. HD has always had some irons in the performance fire. sure, we want an American company to win at everything, but realistically, things are going, and have gone, very well in my book.

Dan,

I don't think I'm bashing HD. Or I really don't mean to be anyway. Just my observation that HD does cruisers really well and they just don't get sport bikes or sport riders or sport anything else.

A big inch, hot rod bike like the one at the top of the thread would be pretty cool and with the recourses available to the HD factory we could have a much better bike at a much more reasonable price but I just don't think it will ever happen. I don't think it will happen because HD just doesn't want it to happen. HD don't need or want an underemployed young man in multi colored one piece leather suit in their showroom looking at a bike the salesman doesn't understand or yearn for. Much better to have an over weight fifty year old CPA looking at a FatBoy. That's just the way things are. No moral judgment here, no bashing intended. Just reporting the facts.

It will be a cold day in Hell before we see a bike like this in our local HD showroom, but it would be cool if we did. On the other hand, HDI shows a big fat profit every quarter so who am I to complain.

The Eccosse is a trick bike. saw this in Robb report several months ago. 65k is the starting price, go with the bigger motor or the titanium frame your looking at close to 100k . I too think it is way too high and would rather have a confederate hellcat, or a Pantera, or even an american cafe supermanx for about 20k less. But that ain't happening either.

Anybody get the Enthusiast mag from HD. Good article in there from Erik about the relationship between the 2 companies. I came away with the impression that HD HQ is a willing agent in Buell. Of course we all new this, but that only leaves the dealers to blame.

I don't see Ray as 'bashing HD'. It's just a fact that they play to their strengths. And given the financial performance of The Motor Company over the last 15 - 20 years their strengths are impressive. History is littered with companies that failed because they attempted to diversify and in so doing morphed into an unmanageable mess.

And though H-D doesn't make any 'big twin' I am remotely interested in, would they build something like this (or the Supermanx) that could change in a hurry. And I agree, it wouldn't be too hard for them. It's just that they have a successful 'image' and production of a bike remotely similar to that could potentially tarnish that image. They're just being ultra-conservative in protecting a multi-billion dollar money train. Most of us in the same position would probably do the same. It's all about the Benjamins......

This happens every day, or that's how I read some of the posts here, about going to look at Buells. Well, all except the underemployed part, they show up in Harley gear looking at Harleys as well.
