Higbee To Race Buell In 2005 AMA Formula Xtreme Series

From a press release:

Milwaukee, WI: Shawn Higbee has established his own racing team for 2005 to compete in the AMA Lockhart Phillips USA Formula Xtreme Series. The 2001 Formula USA Unlimited Superbike champion returns to ride a Buell XB and will debut his 2005 Formula Xtreme bike at the upcoming Indianapolis Dealer show on Saturday, February 19th as a featured display of the Teknic exhibit booth.

"It has been very exciting working on the creation of this team over the past 4-5 months," said Higbee. "Over the years, I have had the chance to work with several great teams. Now, I have the goal to bring together the best aspects of each of them into one cohesive unit. All of this hard work has really motivated me toward Daytona. I am really excited about the coming season."

Higbee will race the #14 Higbee Racing Buell at the upcoming Daytona 200, a 68-lap, 200-mile test of rider and machine, is the first event of the exceptionally competitive series. "I'm happy to be back on a Buell," added Higbee. "The XB is a superb handling bike and suits my riding style well. I think we will be a competitive force in 2005."

In addition to displaying his Buell XB in Indianapolis, Higbee will be signing autographs at the Pit Bull booth on Saturday, February 19th at 1:00 p.m.

The 64th running of the Lockhart Phillips USA Formula Xtreme Daytona 200 will be held on Saturday, March 12.

As an equal opportunity offender, I got to go to the Dealers Expo in Indy as the "parts manager" at our local Susuzki / Kawasaki dealer.

There were only three Buells in the whole place!! The Higbee bike, Hoban Bros. race bike and another XB12R.

A couple of other friends were there from our local Honda / Yamaha shop and yesterday they told me, "Yeah, we saw that Buell and we figured if we stood by it long enough, you'd show up!!"

Nuff said.

Sorry guys, I've got a nice photo of Shawn Higbee's new bike but I can't get it to load onto the site. I've shrunk it down to almost nothing but it still won't except it!

Dana,
Are you sure?

That looks like HobanBros markings on the bike and Jeff Johnson uses #38. At least he did last year.

Thats Hobans Bike.
I would assume Higbee would at least be using the better looking & perhaps better flowing ram air style unit that Hals has.

Those tube deals look way too much like Ram horns.

Shawn Higbee is #14 this year. You can see all 206 entrants in Formula Xtreme this year at http://home.ama-cycle.org/prorace/natnum-rr.asp?cls=fe

Last year there were 18 entrants at Daytona.

That is the Hoban Bros. bike! I cannot remember what booth it was in but no one there seemed to know or care much about having it there!!

There were many well know racers in attendance, just walking around. I looked up once while studying an interesting Harley to be face to face with Chris Carr. He just smiled and nodded his approval too and just stooled away. Of course I stood there somewhat dumb founded.

Kevin Schwantz and Jason Pridmore signed autographs at the Suzuki booth, Antron Brown was standing there as well but was talking shop with some suits when I was there. I'm sure there were many others that I probably walked right by.

I've sent the photo of Higbee's new XB to Glitch since he offered to post it for me. When he has time I'm sure he'll get it up. Thanks, Glitch...

You can see the "Buell of Appleton" stickers.
They are on the airbox.
Buell on the purple, of Appleton WI on the orange.
I had the stickers made by Koz's dad.
Thanks Bernie!

The seat doesnt look like a typical race seat either...looks stock.

I think that bike is just a "replica" of Shawns bike.

I don't think its a replica but I do think that it needs a few things to make it complete. The front brakes are there. Also notice that the bike does not look like its wearing clip-ons.Maybe the bike wasn't done yet???

The Hoban bike was at the Spectro oils booth. I figured they shipped a ringer (back-up bike)and not their number one race bike.

That was the at the Spectro oils booth.

Gearhead: How many days did you get to spend at the show? I was working a booth so I was there three days but all I saw was about an hour or so of 'investigative' time.

Timbo,

Wow....displayed the A bike! I know they don't have a big factory budget so perhaps they don't have a very complete back up machine, but I also know it can be very risky to ship and display your number one ride.....never know what can happen at these shows.

Thanks for the inside info.

Actually...

I did the sticker designs, dad cut it out on the machine and delivered it to Dave. I make pops do all my dirty work... ha ha ha...

I think I was the only other person to recognize the stickers when I saw it. That is one sweet looking bike though. Tell Jeff I will give hime lots of free stickers if he lets me ride it!

I sure am glad dad don't read this site....
