I need help!
2001 X-1 engine light on death on arrival home. Lucky I made it home. Bike wouldn't start. Light came on but no juice. Horn worked. Local shop said ignition needs to be replaced. Local Harley dealer says 30-45 days to get replacement parts....Come on! Is there anyone out there with a better solution? Are there any other ignition switches/keys(available), interchangeable with the X1? Does anybody have a set sitting around their garage collecting dust? I'll buy it!! Thanks for your help. You can post your reply here or you can e-mail me at medic00@bellsouth.net

Maybe, let me look. You should check to see if that is really what it is.There are only 3 wires going to ignition switch so not hard to jump them.I am not familiar with what sorts of fuses/relays X-1's had so cannot help there.I will be home on thurs to check barn.

Same thing happened to me..I talked to the parts desk and they where able to get me a new ignition plus they where able to match it to my old keys so I wouldn't need to carry two keys (one for ignition and one for trunk).

As for waiting a month to get it and not having your bike. All I did was cut the wires on the old ignition and wired them onto a toggle switch. The toggle hid nicely behind the fly screen. If I can find the switch I can snap a pick for you.

Thanks all. Buellidan squared me away with a replacement part. Yes, all obvious checks were done, definitely the ignition.

When my ignition switch failed I just wired it to a toggle switch. If they are going to steal the bike they will get it anyway.

I certainly was not gonna give you a hard time as I had the switch on my S-2 do nearly the same thing.Drove me nuts because some stuff had power, other stuff did not.And it was freakin intermittent.
