I got mine from Southside HD in Virginia Beach on the 1st. The lady in Motorclothes, knew exactly what I was talking about but had to go into the storeroom to get the hat. On it was the mentioned chain with a card on it stating they would once again be doing the sling bag promo in the spring if you demo ride a Buell between certain dates.

My local dealer, (Augusta, GA) isn't listed in the participating dealers area. So I guess I may ride up to Athens to see if the dealer there can hook me up. And a sling bag, eh? That's cool - I want to demo ride a Buell anyway, so that's a perfect excuse.

It's some time in april for the sling bag, starting the 15th comes to mind. The hat (and tag) are out in the car, I will have to look on the way home.

Grrrr, local dealer isn't doing it. Nor is Daytona from what I can see. Sigh. Guess when I go to stunt wars I may have to hope that the dealers up there, Ocala or Gainsville, are open and doing it.

What a bunch of pitiful dealers!
The freakin hats are FREE to the dealers. All they have to do is get enough vouchers to match the number of hats they give out.
Every dealer that is not participating should have their Buells taken away and then be

I've got 10 cases of hats. We are trying to save some for our Demo event in March, but if your local dealer is not participating, I will help if I can. I will post more info about our event within the next week. We should have our sponsorship for the Badweb done by next week. Email me if you need a hat and I will try to help as many as I can.

Another clueless one...well sort of. I went tonight to get the hat at my local dealer. The first three women I spoke with had no clue what I was talking about but they work in the boutique up front so I wasn't surprised (they didn't know about the Buell demo day last year either). They searched out the one person there who did. The hat came with a free business card from a salesman. I have to say they're improved the Buell display at this dealer, moved from most of the way back to right in front of the parts counter with more bikes on display. I guess I'm happy if at least a couple of the sales guys know Buells, better than none!

No hats in Utah. Had to show the parts guys the Buell website just to get a glimer of comprehension from behind the counter.
This probably means no sling bags either.
Oh well, at least they still carry Buells.

>>>>I went to liberty to get my hat and they wouldnt give me one

Thanks for the "heads up" (hat lingo) and saving me a trip. I have a Buell photo shoot in Manhattan next Tuesday afternoon and was hoping to score one.

Good news....I have a case of the old Buell hats buried some place.

I'm with Dave on this one....if they can't give away a free hat....I have many more questions. My bet is that Dave could parlay 1 in 4 of the conversations growing out of giving the hat away, to a sale.

The purpose, I'd think, would be to CREATE a dialouge between a dealer and a interested, regardless of level of interest at the moment, potential customer.

That is the "art" of sales....give someone like Dave a "glimmer" and they'll make some flames.

Oh for want of a hat.....

I'm convinced that the words "harley davidson" translate to "communication breakdown" in some language. I'm not sure which language, but this appears to be the case.

I work at one of the semi-clueless dealers. In my dealership, unless you were talking to a member of the sales staff or one of two parts people (I'm one of them) you would probably get a blank stare when asking about a free Buell hat. If you're having poor results trying to get a hat from another dealer, make sure you ask the sales manager as they're the mostly likely person to receive the hats.

About the sling bags- I haven't seen one in person but I have seen a picture of one and it's not the same bag as last time. So those of you who already have a sling bag will just have to go to your local good dealer and suffer through another demo ride on a new Buell. ; )

I'm out'a town right now (lurking in a Helena motel) which is why I was able to stop by the MT dealer. I'll see if they have a fax at the front desk.

Steveford... I don't think this is meant to be a slamfest against Harley salesmen. There are good ones and bad ones. I think the point is that the skillset and the approach for selling Buells is likely significantly different then that for selling Harleys.

The way many of the bikes are used is pretty different, and the things likely to be important are pretty different.

Come to our Demo ride on March 19-20 and ride some of the best twisties around in the N.Ga. Mountains. This is an event you will never forget. Clown will have all the details soon. HUGE

>>>>Are you people insinuating that Harley salesmen are less than wonderful?

Let me put a stop to this immediately.

Blaming Harley-Davidson for Buell sales shortcomings is both wrong and short sighted.

I know tons of Harley-Davidson dealers who I'd rank as "great" who have absolutely no interest in Buells. These are good people and great Harley-Davidson sales people.

The problem, I'd suggest, starts at the dealership level. The first thing that is necessary is a commitment to the line from the dealer principle. People like Dave and Cameron have, to a degree, short-circuited the normal process in that their personalities have made it quite natural for them to MAKE this happen, as opposed to WAITING for it to happen.

It can not, Dave and Clown back me up here, be MANDATED by any mandate or dictum from Harley-Davidson. You can NOT "order" a dealership to be "good at selling Buells".

The FIRST step in the "9 Ways to Sell a Buell" is the presence of this commitment. Once that ball is in play, it requires someone with, or willing to practice and hone, the skills that SUPERDAVE exhibits.

Some folks are sales "naturals", I am the opposite. Even though I'd rather eat glass than sell something, I have a keen admiration for those who do.

Another essential element is to not allow our communal efforts to promote, improve and advance Buell, be diluted by spending out valuable time, effort and resources making certain we have someone to blame.

Do good things....

quoting from one of my favorite movies, "What we have here is a failure to communicate . . . . . "

communities have interests, and behaviors that are vauled -- these things have great inertia, and are difficult to change (more difficult from anywhere buth the top, IMO) . . . a dealership has enough employees (many of whom are part time) who don't get the word, get it and forget it, don't care, are phoning in their jobs, and so on -- balming that on HD, HDI, Buell, or the phase of the moon is a bit off target, I think . . . .

if you go to a dealership that has the hats, some P&A, and a display of Buells in evidence, you are likely in a place where the owner or other organizational heavyweight has decided that Buells are wortth the trouble -- in other words, a keeper

the hat ain't nuthing, but it may be an indicator or sign of a deeper interrest, or lack thereof

it's amazing to me that an organization of less than 100 people (many dealerships I know) can continuously and consistantly fail to spread the word (any word) across the entire population -- I have a feeling that Dave and Clown and Sam at IL HD/Buell speand almost as much time preaching internally as they to externally

Me n you, Court -- you sell em aggressive, flexible marketing, I'll learn em up on commo, and we'll retire to someplace wamr with good roads and things to keep our misses well occupied ... . waddya say?

Precisely.

And that should not be.

Trust me...were I a dealer who had any one of those guys skills available the LAST thing I would want is them otherwise engaged.

I'd want Dave selling, totally unencumbered, with any other distractions.

Course...I'm greedy as the dickens.
