Why am I posting this? Beacuse I trashed the Xb this morning!

This makes one think, and also puts things in perspective.
Diet Snapple 16 oz $1.29 .......... $10.32 per gallon
Lipton Ice Tea 16 oz $1.19 ...........$9.52 per gallon
Gatorade 20 oz $1.59 ..... $10.17 per gallon
Ocean Spray 16 oz $1.25 .......... $10.00 per gallon
Brake Fluid 12 oz $3.15 .......... $33.60 per gallon
Pepto Bismol 4 oz $3.85 ........ $123.20 per gallon
Whiteout 7 oz $1.39 ....... . $25.42 per gallon
Scope 1.5 oz $0.99 .........$84.48 per gallon

And this is the REAL KICKER...

Evian water 9 oz $1.49..........$21.19 per gallon?! $21.19 for WATER - and the buyers don't even know the source.

So, the next time you're at the pump, be glad your car doesn't run on water, Scope, or Whiteout, or God forbid Pepto Bismol

I heard on the news this morning that Exxon just posted the biggest quarterly profit EVER for a US company.

So tell me they're not upcharging the gas?

You got to keep in perspective...
How much gas do you consume compared to all the above?
I may go through 1 or 2 gallons of gatorade a month but I burn 40-60 galons of gas each month.
that's $10.17-$20.34 a month Vs. $79.60-$119.40 (gas is $1.99 for reg where I live)
Sorry but I have no respect for the oil companies. They got us by the short & curlies and feel no shame in bleeding us dry.

A dump trunk full of giant rocks decided the outside lane in front of me was where to be. One of the rocks, and I mean BIG rocks came at me like a missle, bounced just in front of the bike. I ran over it, split the front wheel and blew the tire. The bike stood up on me, and I heade for the retaining wall. Luckily got it stopped before it did any more damage. I scraped my knee along the wall for a little bit, but no real damage.
Just pizzed off because the truck kept hauling butt

Now I get to buy a wheel, bearings and a rotor from Dave... and my tire had under 200 miles on it, and luckily had road hazard on it

Nahhh I didnt keep the rock
The bastich kept on hauling, and the traffic was all pizzy because I was holding up the commute. I am having my wife pick me up at work and we are going back to the construction area to see if I can find out who does the hauling for the state crews doing the road construction.

Well they must be doing pretty well to have record-breaking profits. I understand supply and demand, and I personally have no issue paying for my gas. I ride my bike as much as possible, but when I don't ride I drive a truck with a V-8. I go through about 25 or 30 gallons of gas a week. It's not breaking the bank for me. So personally, I could probably pay $3 or $4 a gallon and not be in dire straits. And as far as Big Oil, well, I am a firm believer in capitalism, (put my life on the line for it, literally) and I'm all for big business. And foreign oil, domestic oil, olive oil, oil of olay, whatever, that other thread makes sense to me, regarding the price of foreign versus domestic.

But if Exxon is making such huge profits, then it would seem to me that they could cut the cost a bit and still make "almost" huge profits. And this would pass the savings on to the little people. (No, not Lilliputians...)

If I am the only guy in the world who sells a widget, and I charge $20 for each widget, and my profit for each widget is $15, and I sell 1 Billion widgets a quarter, I make a profit of $15 Billion per quarter. If I drop the price to $15 per widget, and only make $10 profit per widget, then I might sell more widgets, but even if I don't, then I will still make $10 Billion per quarter.

If the Economics that I took in college 8 years ago has failed me, let me know. But as far as I remember, and as far as I can figure it out, this seems logical.

I don't want to get anyone started on a touchy subject, so if it's something that causes major strife, then just let me know and I will edit this post out, and drop it. I care more about riding than I do about gas.

By the way, I used to live in Louisiana, in Vernon Parish. We went to Lake Charles all the time because it was the closest civilized place...

That was basically it. That's where I got my bike, (at Cycles & Moore). And they have a lot of refineries. And in the link that Road_Thing posted, he mentions having oil coming from Calcasieu Parish.

Before griping too much about the price of gas, next time you're filling up look for a decal on the pump that tells you how much of that is taxes. Take the taxes out and gas would be really cheap.

Yup, ask the government what they are doing with that tax money, I bet they aren't using it to repair the interstates in your area!

...also take into consideration that the price of our raw product has been going up to the highest levels ever in the last year ( I work for an oil refiner and we made record profits last quarter and last year..good for my bonus )....

..and lets face it , gas is cheap compared to the other essential products that Vegas listed.

That tax money pays my salary, so never mind. Keep paying those exorbitant prices!

Seriously, I know it could be worse. I mean, in Europe they pay like $4 or $5 a gallon or something. So they have it even worse off than we do. But it could be better too...

Cement Truck came left of center as I was passing it on the Nighthawk. Came so far over I had to finish the pass in the grass. The guy was looking at his paperwork and didn't even know he has in the wrong lane.

I got to give the guy the thumbs up though. The next day he waved me down while in his pick-up and apologized. I was astounded. Pretty big guy to flag me down and do that, especially since he was in his personal vehicle and I did not know who he was.

$3-$4 a gallon?!! Wow I can't even imagine what it would feel like to be able to afford those prices. Right now I'm living off of Top Ramen just to be able to keep gas in the truck.

So soon only the rich will be able to buy gas & drive why us poor folk take the bus or thumb it to work.

Nope, I PCS'd in October. I'm in Georgia for the moment, until April or May. After that, I don't know where I'm going. Probably to a unit that's headed back over to Iraq, but that's ok. It could be worse...

I liked riding around Polk - there were some good roads there. There are some good ones here, too, but most of my riding has been back and forth to work. I want to take a weekend before I leave GA to go up to Deal's Gap. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I may actually be headed to Hood - are you there still?

Tucson: Yup! It could have been my chest..or head. I am happy that it is just the wheel and tire and rotor. I had road hazard on the tire. $9 bucks for a new one!

u4: Not yet on the pics. We have been working on some other projects so to speak. I hope to get them done by May. Then it looks like we are off to Florida so there could be some interesting pics from there!

Thanks Charlie! The Rainbow curve man.. you know how it is there

If I could fit all the shovels, rakes, traffic cones and the vibratory plate on my bike I would happily ride to work!

But I think you're missing the point. Those who do not have bikes and can't afford a decent car and have crappy jobs and are just scraping by are gonna keep suffering more & more as the prices keep rising.

Figuring out how to tow the compressor with the bike would be a good trick too.

Hmmm... I wonder if it could be done. How much torque would a bike need to pull 600 lbs.?

The reason gas prices are so high is about 30+% of the price is tax.
At least we in the US are not paying the prices people in Europe are paying.
What are you guys in the UK paying now? $6.00?

We have an area gas station that gives us a $.03 discount when we use their charge card. When we got the final bill for 2004 it said that we had bought over 1,000 gallons from them.
That was a lot of gas since it didn't account for the bike trips to Newfoundland, Phoenix, Millwaukee and Nevis. Plus the car trips to places like Orlando. Even though I try not to drive more than I have too, it just happens.
