insurance not only varies freom state to state, but from county to county, anbd sometimes town to town -- shop hard on insurance -- it pays off, big time

also, if your agent tells you your rates have skyrocketed, call him back and tell him you'll go elsewhere -- it might not help, but, if you've got all your insurance with the same carrier/agent, loosing all your business may be an incentive for them to resharpen their pencils on your bike stuff -- it worked for me

I recently changed from Progressive to dairyland. Progressive went up $165.00. I use a insurance broker Fernet 800-391-8144. The girl I talked to said that Progressive had written a large number of policies on HD's and had to pay out alot of money on those policies. So, they went up on their rates. This is on my 2002 FZ1, and I am 49years old with a clean record. Dairyland quoted me $305.00 per year, full coverage with $500 ded.

its a shame that dealer closed out, but i think it has to do with the territory. i was told by a buell employee that the west coast is their biggest market. while HD is stronger in the east coast. its just like homes, in the west coast you have modern architecture and in the east we have this colonial homes. people are just late to react to change, and BUell is definet a radical change from the HD. young guys like me though are always trying to let people know about Buell so they know they have a choice to the japanese bikes.

As for the older deaths, according to the article a lot of the older guys were previous owners when they were younger. Much of it was blamed on slowing reflexes and buying vehicles that were too powerful. Essentially, midlife crisis is kicking in for all of the baby boomers.

The way I read it, they were previous riders, and the new[er] bikes they now are riding are much more powerful than "back in their day" and they can't / don't handle them well anymore, or don't realize / admit to the re-learning curve needed.

One other thing to remember about older riders returning to the sport. There wasn't any training available when we started riding.

Consider that the courses that are required to get your license these days pretty much just cover the basics. Then add to that the "know it all" stubbornness that us old farts develop over the years concerning macho things like riding a bike and I think you have a formula for failure.

Translation: They most likely will behave and pass the basic training but revert to past experience on the road. Add to that a little alcohol which is socially acceptable in many cruiser crowds and you have a time bomb.

Dang, I wish a lot of my peers (age wise) would wise up. Then, the inverse is the Young Toots that ride like they are absolutely bullet proof. Ever get the feeling we are screwing ourselves in all the age brackets.

Amen brother, keep on preaching the good news. Been doing the same thing here. Letting people know that there are other bikes makers out there.
