I am looking to get some new riding gear this year. I want to have very good crash protection that I can wear most of the year. I was at a local motorcycle shop today and they told me about the Super Ego from Joe Rocket. It is a leather jack that the front and back zip off to expose a mesh inner. Sounds like a good setup. Does anyone have any experience with it?

Other jackets I am considering are:
Icon TiMax
Teknic Spider
Joe Rocket Alter Ego
others???

I have the Alter Ego and I like it a lot - sounds to me like your description is the Alter Ego, cuz that's what mine does...admittedly tho, I don't know the Super Ego.

I had an Icon Jacket for a while...about 2 days...before I sent it back. The cut was impractical for riding

The Super Ego is like the Alter Ego BUT the Super is LEATHER and the Alter is a Textile jacket. Not sure that I really need the extra protection of leather over one of the good tex jackets like the Alter Ego.

I have the alter ego too. With a layer of fleece under the water proof liner it is good to high 30's.

I wish the entire sleeve was vented in the summer, leather would be nice, probably a bit warmer in the summer though.

I too have the Alter Ego jacket.
I think it is awesome.
I ride year round and have not had any complaints.
I went down in the jacket at about 40MPH last spring and hopped right up without injury.
Without close inspection one would not be able to recognize the damage to the jacket.
I would say go for it.

Well, I went ahead and ordered the Super Ego today. We will see how it does. Like I had said, for some reason I just wanted leather this time.
