Hi Guys,I dont like the black plastic front pulley cover on my 98 S1wl,or any after market ones ive seen, as they never seem to colour match the engine cases.Does anyone know if i could adapt a Harley Sportster one to fit?

i'm pretty sure a sportster cover would need to be modified to fit, how about a carbon fiber cover, or go coverless with a colored skin for the pulley either of those items you should be able to get thru one of the bad web sponsors. i hated all the black plastics on my bike and switched them to carbon fiber, it looks great and i get alot of compliments.

RRC makes a kick guard to replace the plastic one for the XBs:

Also for earlier models:

They're made in Germany, and a bit pricey -- not to mention that the only source seems to be Trojan Horse, so shipping is expensive, but there's nothing better (IMHO). They're available in black, satin or polished.

To cover up the ugly front pulley, I went with Banke Performance's billet pulley cover:
Again, it's available in polished or satin. They don't specifically list them for an XB, but I found that they fit perfect. I know -- you don't have an XB, but extra info for XB guys who might see this...

I used a stock Sportster cover and cut out the footpeg boss and put it on my RS. It's not nearly as cool as the ones above, but it was FREE! I got a broken one from a friend - whenever a sporty fall on the right side it lands on the footpeg first and will often break that piece, so broken ones are common. You can see it in my profile picture. Also, my bike is chain drive from factory, and the sprocket and area around it is usually a grimy and/or rusty eyesore, thus the advantage of full coverage. AL

I did install the "Buell" bracket

I think it looks great without a pulley cover behind a cut down timing cover .(I did install the "Buell" bracket)

Thanks everyone, out of all suggestions, i think i'll go with Leftcoastals.I think it looks more of a factory fit and also has the advantage of making the engine look even bigger.

Yeah, I'm surprised how good the modded Sportster cover looks. Still, I must be the only one that actually likes the black plastic pulley cover. I like all the black plastic bits on my M2 - the only way I'd replace them with CF is if they cracked or fell off (a very good possibility).

Be advised - if you do it like I did, there will be a gap in the front lower part of the cover where you cut out the sportster foot peg/brake pedal boss. I use it to squirt chain lube thru occasionally, so's I don't get that spew all over the (sometimes) shiny PM wheel.

Thanks Daniel, for the compliment. It is somewhat less gorgeous, sitting dust enshrouded in the garage, waiting for me to get that turbo repair bill funded! Kinda forlorn, actually. Shouldn't be too much longer though. Unlike my roadking, the RS "bagger", when operational, tours with authority and abruptitude. AL

When I saw that pulley guard on the other thread, I was wondering who made one in metal. I like that.

I almost painted mine the same metallic silver I painted the rest of my bike. I backed out at the last minute because I wasn't sure how good it would look. Looks like I should have just painted it!

I made an extra one just like this one except it doesnt have the 6 tangent grooves (yet -but it could have them). I'd sell it for materials and shipping? (not a sponsor you know.... I hate to make money.)

hell I'll give it to you if you want to buy me a callendar. that way we all win. : )

Dan,

I've been looking for a cover like that for a long time now, so I'd be all over that offer if it's still available. Especially with those spiff grooves.

Let me know,

-Geof
