Check out www.skype.com
Long distance calls (also intercontinental calls) from your computer to a line phone for 2 cents a minute. To a computer on line NOTHING.
Very easy to install. I was already connected: "Hallo hallo, hallo" before I realized that I had to plug a microphone into the sound card.

It's pretty cool to be able to make long distance calls for free. I'm not as familiar with the PC software, but the iChat AV built into Mac OS X works great when my family wants to video-chat with friends and relatives all over the US. Audio-only calls even work pretty well over a modem line. The drawback, of course, is that you can't just dial a standard phone number...but hey, for free what do you expect? ($0.02/minute's certainly not bad when you need to reach a standard line!)

If you've got a Mac, iChat AV works with AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) 5.5 so you can chat with any PC users via AIM, and the next version of iChat will allow up to 4 connections for video conferences (though I haven't yet read anything about multiple video connections including PC AIM clients) and 10 connections for audio-only.
