While looking back through the oil filter threads, I noticed emphasis on the Ford Motorcraft brand filters. Any reason for this? How about an equivalent Mobil 1 filter? My last Mobil 1 filter seemed very effective as far as oil color goes. The oil was still quite clean when it was due to be changed.
I'm planning on going to Mobil 1 v-twin synthetic, if I can find the damn stuff.

Autozone carries it, as well as Wal-Mart. Get the stuff formulated for V-Twins.

The M1-103 filter from M1 is the one you want.

Popoff, I think the reference was not so much to Motorcraft brand, just that the FL1A gives you a reference to cross into any good brand.

Pop, Shotgun's correct. use the FL1A as a reference . I believe the K&N PN HP-3001.

WARNING!!! Double check that reference prior to application!!!

Mmmm, good news and bad news for me as far as minimopar's review of oil filters go. I've used nothing but AC Delco units in my GMC pick-up and have 300,000+ trouble free miles on it. Unfortunately, I always use Fram oil filters on my girlfriend's Nissan - glad it's not my car! I feel pretty sure I've bought my last Fram oil filter based on this guy's research.

The only thing I can add is that I've only had one filter ever leak in 27 years of oil changes. An STP oil filter I installed in my mother's Cadillac leaked no matter how much I tightened it. I finally removed it and found it was leaking from the seam where the metal shell meets the base. That was my first and last STP oil filter.

For my bike, I don't take chances - I use the long twin-cam Harley filter. I probably pay too much for it, but what the hell. I wonder how many people that use the Fram filter are sweating now?

I have seen those studies before....I have always run Fram oil filters on everything. I have had about 5 cars go over 200000 miles(including my Suzuki Samurai...motor went 250000 miles!!) never had a bit of problems with Frams.
I have to wonder about a filter test that just cuts them open to see what they look like....shouldn't you...well....maybe run some oil through them??
Like going to the dealer, and looking at the bikes....hmmmm...this Goldwing certainly looks faster than that CBR600RR
