These clutch cable posts I see every now & then... Two questions: 1) XB or not XB? 2) are they breaking at the hand lever, inside transmission, or both? i.e., can I feel good just taking a gander at my lever, or do I need to pull my trans cover plate now and then to have a look-see? |

Most importantly... lube it. |

Mine (XB9S) broke after 20thousand miles. It broke at the lever. What Blake said. |

i have made it a policy to lubricate my clutch cable every second oil change. also a new cable is 25 bucks, and should be hanging on the wall in your garage, next to the spare drive belt. |

It's not enough to just lube it. The best way is to remove the cable at the clutch end and force lube through it, taking out all the crud that accumulates in the portion below the adjuster. The difference in lever pull with a clean lubed cable is amazing. Sparky |

My XB cable broke at the lever. I think around 8k miles total and the cable had been lubed once or twice, with the little tool that forces it into the cable sheath. Pulling the clutch cover to check the clutch cable is not a good use of time, unless you are having trouble. I lube with a product from the MC shop, Cable Life? |

I use white lithium grease with the aerosol cable luber adapter. That is what I call "just lubing the cable", pretty much as per the owner's manual, not sure what Sparky thought I meant. |

Blake won't the lithium grease attract dirt? Is there any real cable lubes anymore? What do the mfr's use? |
