your vote's as good as any, as far as I'm concerned, except for one, and he own's the joint

again, no gain was expected, asked, nor wished for -- my karma is my own, and goodness knows anything I can to to help it is a good thing for me to do

could be my position vis a vis the fence is why I was asked to help custode (there must be such a verb, as there is such a noun, yes?) -- I was surprised when asked, and accepted in order to help out

me, I think the little pics are more trouble than they're worth (but I rmemeber when bandwidth cost money, so chalk that up to being old enough to thing the Animals were the onliest thing to eclipse the Beach Boys)

stand up for who you like, but, clearly, know that there are ways and ways to do so

What is wrong with Capt. Dildo?

It is an actual place here on the island.

Bears absolutely no comparison to the gal with her pink arse stuck up in the air. If you want that kind of action go to a strip club.

I like the Court Canfield test "Would you leave it on your coffee table for all of your guests to see?"

In my case I would not and its Blakes Board so he makes the rules.

We really don't need those avatars anyway!!!!

I have to say seems like a lot of posts for a butt picture. I say keep the avatars, they are cool, just limit the content to within good taste. It should be Blake's call since it is his forum. I personally didn't find the pic bad, but I wouldn't want it in my house for my kids to see or guests{like Court said} Maybe the garage, but this site isn't my garage. By the way it was 52 degrees and sunny.I went riding, if only for 20 minutes. Also, someone had to do some work to put those avatars on, I think a little more appreciation would be nice. I like having an avatar of my x-1 on my posts, thanks to whoever did the avatar work.

Oh my, what fuss about avatars.

We need better intelligence reports. How can we make decisions about this stuff without superior information?

My apologies to the staff in advance for what I am about to say:

Hey mike...
"What about the VegasBueller pic, tell me you like that better than mine."

first off... you can blow me. There is not one thing offensive about that pic. There is no cleavage, no azz, no skin as a matter of fact. Something about her wearing whats she's wearing that sets you off? That is my firckin' wife and I walking on Fremont Street in Las Vegas. After almost losing her this year, I am dam proud to be showing her off wherever I can. So once again...blow me.

I'm arguing nothing about side bar pic's. I'm all for living and let live. Mike's arse pic couldn't even qualify as soft porn but it seems some of you are soft in the head.

Ever watch 'Sex in the City'? That's the only thing on the telly I've ever seen where the C * * T word was used frequently.

Next year in the UK the junior schools are going to be using episodes of 'Sex in the City' for sex education purposes. The world has changed my friends. I bet there's not one ten year old in the western world that doesn't know how babies are made and I bet there's not one ten year old in the western world who'd be seeing a womans bikini clad arse pic for the first time in their lives when looking on a BadWeb side bar if they cared to look. If you believe differently you need to view things from a different perspective. That of a growing child. They know exactly where it's at. Probably more than you do. You are the problem - not the kids, and you're out of touch.

If something offends your sensibilities look the other way. This bollocks about it been Blake's house gets right up my snot box. Without the people his house would be empty. Respect for Blake has nothing to do with whatever we post. On the other hand, being bullied, controlled or manipulated shows a lack of respect for the people posting here.

When Margaret Thatcher came to power in 1977 her closes advisor told her to get everyone on side that hated her by giving them top jobs in her council. Keeping them this close made it easier to get rid of them at a more appropriate time, and that did happen. The same is true of appointing more custodians to the BadWeB. Blake is using similar tactics to implement his control over the board by choosing carefully who he puts up for the job. Notice how all the custodians dance to the same tune? Notice how whilst trying to stay open minded, all the custodians revert back to respecting Blake when it comes to the crunch. "It's his place and we need to respect it.... yadayadayada". How come Dyna isn't a custodian? Sorry, no subversive's allowed.

Like I always say...

SKIN TO WIN!

Oh, sorry, that's not the kind of pink you are talking about here. Well then, I will make you all a deal. I will volunteer to screen all 'questionable-content' images before they have a chance to make it to the board. If I approve of it for the general populace, then I will return the image to whoever sent it to me with a note saying it is acceptable. If, however, the image is found not to be appropriate, I will keep said image (and ask the person who sent it to me to send more) so that these nasty images do not offend anyone.

I actually still surf BadWeb religiously during my lunch break at work, and was not concerned about the pink avatar. I have a rather large office and probably when I am next in Germany in January the office will be rearranged for better use of space. Once the rearranging happens I will have nearly 100% privacy and even keep my window (wouldn't want my plant to die you know...).

I agree with Court, Dyna and a few others in that I don't care for avatars.

Most are too small to see and as noted in quite a few posts (one or two liners) they are a waste of space and require lots of scrolling to get past them and onto the nest post.

Another observation is that once avatars became available a lot of folks including myself no longer showed picks of their bikes in their profiles as they didn't show up as well as avatars. I though the reason of a profile and related pic was to brag about your Buell (er, Bike) not make a personal statement.

When I changed mine, it was to promote the bike I hope HD or BMC makes someday. Personally, I would rather show my X1, but it just got lost with the dark background in a tiny avatar.

Still, I have to believe that a lot of the avatars are cute. I just would like them to reflect something related to the purpose of the BWB again. That way, nobody gets hurt.

Incidentally, I don't recall anyone getting busted for their profile pick in the last few years, but then I may have missed the encounter.

In conclusion, Dump the avatars if they are going to be a problem with the management.

I see Xb9er (Mike) has over-reacted with much emotion and indignation to my simple polite request. : (

So... do we keep the thumbnail avatars or kill 'em? Note that if we keep them, there will be no skin tight butt in the face photos permitted.

I don't care either way. I do appreciate many of them.

Or... maybe one week with, one week without avatars? It is a very simple feature that is easy to turn on or off as desired.

Wow, the emotional reactions of some people really do surprise me.

A personal story...

I was banned from an engineering forum once. I had posted a question that I needed answered. It was a very technical issue and I truly needed the answer to it. Knowing the propensity for some members of that forum to blather on about subject in which they were wholly unqualified to advise I asked that only those who honestly truly really knew the one correct answer (it was a simply yes or no question) post a response.

Of course the ego-maniacs characterizing themselves as engineers could not help themselves, and I got all manner of "I think", "probably", "could be", "most likely", and "it seems" types of qualified non-answers.

So still lacking a definitive answer, I saw fit to admonish the inconsiderate posters who despite my multiple and clear pleas to not answer my very specific technical question unless they were expert in the field and certain of the correct answer, chose to put on display their ignorance for all to see.

My admonishment was a simple yet frank reminder of my plea for responses only from those who indeed really expertly could answer my question.

I was then banned from accessing the site pending consultation with the site moderator.

I never returned. I didn't agree with the way the site was run, nor was I willing to compromise myself or my nature in order to fit in there. So I left never to return, my integrity intact.

I wish those here who feel they must compromise themselves beyond what they feel is acceptable in order to fit in here would have the integrity to do the same and simply leave, never to return.

Sean (Rocketman),

If it were up to me you would be now be gone from this board. But I'll let those handle it who first took up the issue of your renewal of hateful personal attacks. Your personal attacks say far more about you than they do about their target.

The bottom line about the policies of this site is that they do reflect my own personal sensibilities and those of others like me. I'd never ever see fit to support any venture, non-profit or not, that I would be embarrassed to share with friends and family.

I think some people take a simple request concerning content here as a personal affront. That is wrong. Hey, I enjoy looking at photos of sexy women as much as the next guy. But I don't do it at work or overtly in any public venue. This forum is not for that. There are plenty of other web sites that are. I'll visit them privately if so inclined.

So please, don't take the policy of this board or requests from me or any other custodians concerning content posted here as personal affronts.

Deal?

The R-Rated pics thread is in the archives somewhere. Have at it. That, along with the "Curse, Rant, Bitch and Moan" topic were places where one could vent and post in ways that where otherwise out of character with the policy for the rest of the board.

Those topics fell by the way and drifted off into the archives for lack of interest. But they are still there should anyone care to resurrect them.

Upon review of the post that initiated this thread, I find the need to respond...

quote:

Posted by Xb9er...
I will not change my avatar but I Accepted to post this:

So much for integrity. You refuse to honor a simple polite request, then you perpetrate a lie in order to complain about that simple polite request.

Why are you here? Are you here to join in positive discussion with fellow Buell enthusiasts, or are you here to campaign your own personal agenda? One of those reasons will meet with success. One is doomed to fail. One will result in satisfaction through thoughtful exchange of ideas, humor, events, and musings often with productive and valuable results. The other is kinda like bashing your own face into a jagged granite wall, pretty much a guaranteed exercise in futility and pain. Pretty much the height of foolishness wouldn't you say?

Please see my post above concerning integrity.

For Christ sake I get enough of this micro- management bullshit at work, I do not want to come here and see it, there was nothing wrong with that pic, you can see more skin in the teenie magazines out there and have Aaron attack the guy, WTF??? Why didn't a Admin. just talk to the guy on the side about it, if it WAS offensive and not suspend his account, who is running this board, the freaking FCC????

You are quite free to disagree with the way this board is run. You are also quite free to post elsewhere.

Blake has chose to keep this board clean as defined by him. You do not have to agree.

Careyj,

I would say that "I might as well be talking to children", but that would be insulting to children.

Your opinion of the pic in question is worth absolutely zero here.

Your opinion of the way this site is managed is worth less.

I did exactly what you suggest is optimum in that I did indeed "just talk to the guy on the side about it."

And again, as I've had to repeat far too many times, if you don't like the way the site is managed you should leave, immediately.

If stay and seek to whine about it, I will hold you in deep contempt.

Again, I and the other custodians are running the board as we see fit. Not how you see fit, not how Mike sees fit, not how Sean sees fit, how we see fit. Are we clear on that?

I am sick and tired of the whining. I may simply start suspending anyone who whines or complains about the way the site is run. In fact, that is a very good idea. Congratulations. You are responsible for our new policy wrt whiners and complainers.

Who wants to be first?

I thought personal attacks were not allowed Blake?? I have a right to my own opinion and I wasn't whining, just wondering what the hell was going on and why. I NEVER had any problems with the way this site has been run and I'm not gonna leave! Its good to see you pulled him aside and all but it seems you guys did not work it out. And please DON'T talk to me like I'm a child, you don't know me and I don't know you and I would never talk to you like a child if I didn't know you!!! And don't hold me in contempt for voicing my opinion you are not one to judge me nor I one to judge you, or anyone!!! I've seen alot more avatars that would offend other people more than the pinky pic. And I was not commenting on how I'd run the board, are we clear on that. Then why not get rid of the avatars and not have this problem again.

Some people just don't get the hint <sigh>
It's really not that difficult of a concept to grasp. You seem to think that your idea of "okay" is everyones. Sorry, it just ain't so. While I didn't think the photo was offensive, I did think it wasn't really appropriate. And yes, I for one DO browse and post from work.

And please DON'T talk to me like I'm a child

Ya know, every time I hear that statement, it's because the person being talked to, like a child, *IS* acting like one. And that's exactly what all this whining is about.

Mike's arse pic couldn't even qualify as soft porn but it seems some of you are soft in the head.

While I agree with you about the soft porn thing. But what you guys don't seem to get, it is a simple matter of respect.

Respect for Blake has nothing to do with whatever we post.
That is utter hogwash. If you *REALLY* believe this, I'd say you have no sense of respect whatsoever.
