I don't really mean to start a fuss over this one but I get the impression of lately that there are a lot of posts/replies being removed by the custodians.

Keeping in mind that Blake is the one to run/support this endeavour and I am sure at times its very unforgiving, he has also recruited the help of several custodians.

Unless the post is a blatant, intentional attack upon another or the information contained within is totally false, making mis-representations, acusations and so on then it should be left intact.

If the content is questionable then maybe a custodian could contact the author to request a revision.

Just my thoughts

Newf -- good thoughts -- and they are, in the main, in place presently --

the difficulty lies in what is one person's rational and cogent posting is another's wild eyed personal assault -- therein lies the areas for differences of opinion, I'm thinkin -- while the folks that are helping out on the board all feel similarly, and have agreed to Blake's requests for behavior on the board, the larger a group grows, the more of those pecky differences will rear their heads .....

my experience is that most folks, when contracted, respond in a rational manner -- some, however, don't respond at all, other wave the US Constitution, or just get moreso, if that makes sense

anyways, thanks for your thoughts -- the one thing we all agree on is keeping this board useful, fun, and accessible

Count the number of posts over a period of time, say a month then count the number deleted, do your math Newfie and get a percentage to see how bad it really is ???

I'm accountant so "a lot" doesn't mean anything, give me some figures ??

As far as posting BS about American's being in a War they don't belong in, with a son in the Air Force I feel offended and I'm guessing more American's in general, especially those in the service or with loved one's in the service would feel more offended than you living where you do ???

What may be not offensive to some may be to others ?? If it's going to turn into an American's don't belong in Iraq post, take it to the War thread please !!

Bill, I have had this same discussion with a couple of folks here behind the scenes & everyone has the same feelings as you. Seems the new custodians are a bit over zealous in their removing of posts & some of them remove posts simply because they dont agree with the opinion of the author.

I agree that the removing of posts has gotten way out of hand.

Lets keep it in perspective... I don't think there have been more then 4 or so custodian actions in the last month or two. Hardly a runaway train.

Removals are public amongst the custodians, and do get discussed, and will be self correcting. Things will normalize and stabilize soon enough, everyone on both sides should have lots of patience and grace.

I removed the posts that started this discussion. In my opinion, they were off-topic and crossed over into the area of political argument, which we have, I believe, agreed to forego on this board.

I messaged the original poster and explained that I am referring the posts to the custodial group and that, if the collective custodial opinion is that they're OK, I will put them back, with apologies. The custodians' opinions are coming together now. If my individual decision to remove the posts ran counter to the group's thoughts, I'll say so publicly, and apologize to the original poster (who has not yet responded to my private message).

Yes, I'm new to the custodian business and no, I don't agree with the author's posted opinions, but that's not why I pulled them.

Let's see 4 or so divide by total posts in a month is maybe .0000001%, out of hand, PLEASE !!!

And I didn't agree with the author's post either, but then I don't agree with a lot and they aren't pulled either !! RT's reason for pulling it was valid in my opinion, but as he said maybe we are wrong and it will be corrected !!

How many were pulled at the other Buell sites? 1 topic at ATC which got way way outta hand & thats it. None at the Borg, none at Sporttwin.

I think everyone needs to chill on the heavy handedness at times. Sites have a way of policing themselves.

Personally, I've given Blake and the 'custodians' permission to remove completely or post in a more appropriate topic area anything that I write here.

I like to write with passion and conviction and when I do, my judgment is clouded by the issue at hand. Especially with political issues such as war. If I misspeak or offend it's comforting to know that a more 'rational and objective' viewer is available to keep us moving along a constructive path.

That said, I've worked at professional copy editing and understand the process very well. For what it's worth, our resident 'custodians' are doing a fine job---considering all the cats howling on the porch.

Not too scary though.

People are people.

Off to search for a beater car, pickup beyond reasonable repair costs even at home, and winter's coming maybe tomorrow.

Never said they custodians were not doing a good job just merely commented on posts being deleted.

Not looking for statistical numbers or anything either just making a mere observation.

Making a comment regarding the "Pack Heat" thread was that I actually learned quite a bit from others and their reasons why you would need to carry a fire arm, heck I even learned that you can use deadly force in Texas. If that thread was turning into a Bash the US for being in Iraq then I am glad RT took care of that.

You know if its OIL your after please come up this way and take us from Canada - we won't put up a fight and may even invite ya in for tea and a cold beer.!!!!

Mike I got an old 89 Saab 900s I'll trade ya for something unique!!!!!

Does it have the little ski jump in the rear window????? ; )

A few years ago I looked at a Sonnet locally here. The undercarrage was too rusted to justify the owner's price.

What I'm looking for probably isn't worth the shipping costs. Plus I'm probably going to need to find something within a week or two.

Meandering farther off topic now.....

Was just trying to comment that maybe your impression is wrong and there haven't been "a lot" of post removals ?!! If you think of it in the number of removals vs actual postings it's really not a lot !!

A million brownie points for Kevyn !!

SO NOT BUY THE SONNET! BACK AWAY! FAST! GO TO IKEA INSTEAD (sheesh, I can't believe I said THAT)

Saabs are exemplars of great 4wheeled trnspo modules, and great fun in the bargain -- the sonnet was a very poor attempt at something that SHOULD have been great!

ah well -

I imagine that by now that particular Sonnet is but rust particles floating about Lake Michigan having finished its disolving process.

not a saab fan- i've worked on volvos for decades and like the rear-wheel drive, right where god meant it to be in all things living. also, the driveaxles of volvos are over twice as thick as those of saabs, and the &%$%&$ed pulleys and belts are, you know, AT THE FRONT OF THE ENGINE WHERE YOU CAN WORK ON THEM!
volvos kick saab's asses as far as mileage, and their crankcase and headwalls are FAR thicker. the engines go farther, the transmissions go farther, they handle better with normal rear-wheel drive, like, you know, most serious performance cars, and they are SO bulletproof and easy to work on. i am contacting the administrators immediately for allowing all this pro- slaab drivel to be posted.
i am deeply offended

i'll take nice throttle-steering 'oversteer' of the rwd over the limpwristed 'understeer' of the slaab anytime.

the cahmbers bros. time has come today.
i've owned many nice finnish valmet kalashnikovs, and i think you may be right.
all kidding aside ('cept fer the part 'bout THE POSSUM) i think if i ran a FREE board, and i didn't dig what some of the folks who i'd welcomed to MY board had to say, i'd delete their posts as well.
i'd also hope my budddies who help me keep an eye on the clubhouse would show the door to folks who take sh*t too far.
being that i was one of the main perpetrators of the thread that was taken too far on ATC (along with one of badweb's moderators), i have to agree with it's yanking and i have to give huge props to scooter for showing excellent judgement.
i was well out of line (and many ATC members lemme know) toward a guy i never met, who, politics aside, i probably have a helluva lot in common with, and who i'd go hunting with in a NY minnit. so maybe there is something to be said for yanking the heated stuff.
does anyone reallly want a permanent record of stupid sh*t they've said outta anger?
as i've said, i really, REALLY admire scooter for being so hands-off with what his mebers say, and for some reason, guys keep it in control over there. i screwed up, and noone ever made me feel unwelcome, and i'm happy the screwup has been sh*tcanned. things get a little hotter here and they should be moderated.
that's only my 2 sense (sic)

I loved reading your posts, Tramp -- it's always good to know you're not alone, and that someone else tangenets like an acid freak in the grocery store at 2 am when they're outa milk and no oreas only hydrox and the muzak version of Zappas "Peaches en Regalia" is just a little too much to be borne by a civilized person and you can't remember if it's one down, four up on the left or one up, three down on the right and you can't remember the name of the girl that rode in with ya and you can't find her anyway

know what I mean?

Well, allrighty then, I won't be getting a Saab, besides there aren't many of them advertised locally in my price range.

Now I'm thinking along these lines:

No smog checks, carry it into work when I get here eventually in the mornings and park it under my desk, probably cheap to insure as well.

Can't afford no Volvo, and the ones I can afford have already proven their crashworthyness.

Maybe I'll just go find me someone to swap their hot rod Lincoln in exchange for one of my Buells.

Eventually this thread will come back around on topic....
