by dean adams
Thursday, November 18, 2004
According to news reports out of Florida, racer Dave Estok was arrested yesterday and charged with "cultivation of marijuana, possession of marijuana and possession of OxyContin" in a drug bust.

Estok is a former Buell rider and challenged for the old AMA Pro Thunder championship.

geez, i'm sure he's in a lot more trouble than he should be, i hope he does'nt get jail time. usually they blow that stuff way out of proportion, he probably got intent to violate and intent to distribute as well.

Up here he would be out with a slap on the wrist!!!

All Gov't should legalize the weed then find a way to tax it.

I don't touch the stuff but see it being no worse then alcohol.

Worst thing a parent can do when they catch their kid with pot? Send them to bed without any supper.

The weed isn't too bad, but that oxycontin is just a bad as heroin. If he was guilty of distributing that stuff, he should be put away.

OxyContin contains oxycodone, a very strong narcotic pain reliever similar to morphine.

Wasn't Oxy what Limbaugh had?

Oxy is legal with a presciption (and is capitalized since its a trademarked brand name) and is popular enough to cause pharmacies to put in large vaults and bullet-proof glass...

Please, let's give Estok the benefit of the doubt.

Per a Medical website, OxyContin is a treatment for moderate to severe pain, so let's pray that his possession of it was an Rx for a race related injury or some other legitimate purpose. Sometimes the LEO's get a little heavy handed when searching the premises and list all drugs found in the house as a violation and let the court sort it out.

Additionally, perhaps the Mary Jane was strictly for personal use and may have even been Rx'd by a doctor. I know a guy out in LA that legally grows the stuff for folks that have prescriptions for it. Each plant is labeled with all the Rx info and the LAPD knows all about it.

The only time this guy gets into trouble is when he reports theft. His plants are fully caged and have 24/7 video surveillance. Unfortunately, he gets robbed every once in a while and reports the theft and ID's the perps with the video tape. Problem is the LAPD won't do anything about it even though everyone knows who the perps are. They just dismiss it as a cost of doing business for him and label his crop an attractive nuisance. LOL

Let's hope Dave Estok is in this category and does not qualify for criminal prosecution.

Innocent until proven guilty.

Actually that drug (OXY) is causing a lot of problems up this way and is where most of the petty crime is coming from. Addicts are doing break & entry crimes to support their habits.

Dude, nothing was mentioned about distributing, but your comment is a fine example of how things get blown out of all proportion. Know what I mean.

Over here the city high streets are bursting with 'Gro Green' hydroponic type shops. Growing your own's a great British national hobby these days.

First, lets give the guy the benefit of the doubt until the facts are in. Ultimately, it is none of my business.

I have good friends with addiction issues, some who have chosen to deal with them, some who have not. It's a huge struggle, and I have tremendous grace and would like to give as much support (with safe boundries, so it is really support and not making things worse) for anyone who has to fight that battle. Its terrible, but there is some major good fruit on the other side if you can get through it.

Nothing is so broken it can't be made whole. And that's as much as I will say about that...

Over here if the total weight is over 1 ounce "intent to sell" is almost always included in the final list of charges presented to the judge, just not always mentioned in news articles. The real teller would be what the bail was set at.

I'm not going to point a finger or say any names here, but there is a big problem with Rx drug abuse in pro racing.

I hope Dave doesn't lose his land down in Florida. He's got a pretty sweet little track down there.

Hey, while its illegal, its illegal. I feel no pity. He should get what ever the penelty is for what he has. If pot smokers would get off the couch and put down the weed long enough to come up with a good strategy to pressure their politicians to legalize it, then they would. How many people smoke pot in the US. And how many people Vote.
I think it would pass.
But he should have invested all that time and money into riding. My only drugs are endorphines and adrenaline.

I certainly understand that this discussion is centered around marijuana and I clearly understand the arguments for decriminalization and/or legalization...however, Mexico and Central America have a thriving drug trade with the U.S with notoriously sadistic and brutally violent criminal syndicates. I see only 2 ways to put a damper on the narco-terrorists; give it up or grow your own. My preference for all this great Buell family is just give it up and get your heads cleared. Enjoy life around you, the family you love and the folks who love you.

There is no doubt that the taliban and al qaeda are reaping huge profits from the opium trade in Afghanistan...

..."Let's be frank, efforts to eradicate the poppy crop this year have failed."

It is not exactly a meeting of minds. While the general promises full co-operation in the fight against drugs, many of the other officials around the table use their speaking time for explanations, rather than ideas on dealing with the problem.

And what about the West doing more to reduce its demand for drugs, they ask.

Both the British ambassador and Mr Costa emphasise the fact that the opium poppy is regarded as against Islam, and that it is officially illegal in Afghanistan.

Yet one senior religious scholar admits that in many poppy-producing areas his counterparts often say that producing opium is "halal" or permitted in Islam, as long as it is sent to infidels abroad.
