M. Oldfield (Odie).

"I feel that even when I make custom parts for my bike if I post pictures of them I get accused of trying to advertise my services. I also believe there are others that feel the same way."

That feeling is completely unjustified and certainly not borne by any evidence here on BadWeB.

Let's be perfectly clear here... Any and all who fabricate custom parts for their bike are perfectly welcome and indeed much encouraged to share their efforts with all of us here. That is exactly what this whole place is all about!

However, seeking to exploit the site and offering to sell said custom parts is an entirely different matter and is prohibited on BadWeB except by sponsors of the site, absolutely no exceptions.

We should certainly be able to distinguish between the sharing of our own personal creative efforts and offering to sell the products of our efforts.

If anyone has trouble distinguishing between those two types of content, please check with me or any BadWB custodian before posting anything you think might be problematic and we'll be sure to give a decisive yea or nay to your post.

If anyone wants to provide as a service to their fellow Buell enthusiasts any product(s) in return for reimbursement of the actual cost of only the material required to manufacture and ship it, they too are welcome to offer it on BadWeB.

Our good friend Reepicheap did just that with a host of electrical filters that protected early speedo sensors from failure.

And Odie, all this bullshit incredulity is coming from a man who just today posted twice promoting products by a non-sponsor! In one case even advising other BadWeBrs to PM a certain party to obtain said products! : ( No the product seller wasn't you, at least as far as I know anyway, but you blatantly promoted the wares of a non-sponsor and wares that are of illegitimate origin to boot! As a result I had to spend my personal time to remove your posts from the board. So please. I tire of your attitude. Either accept the policy here or cease participating. Your choice.

Yes, I am upset!

Now, tell me about all the cool custom stuff you've done to your bike.

Actually I was the one who made that comment. The reason for that comment was that when I have posted pics of work I have done people ask me where they can get similar work done. How am I suposed to explain that I built a belt gaurd in my shop without "advertising" my business. My business is not dedicated to Buell or Buell products so I have no intention of buying a sponorship. It is just a grey area that I was hoping to bring up for discussion when I read about someone else get flamed recently
on the XB board.

I guess people will just have to search somewhere else to find links to Buell aftermarket products. It just seems like something people here would be interested in.

Koz,
You tell them how you made it and that you are an expert machinist with access to all manner of cool CNC tools/machinery. What you don't do is offer to sell anything. Is that really so difficult to understand??? What am I missing?

Rooster,
Hey man, I need some cheese to go with my whine. ; ) Seriously though, when maintaining this board becomes more "job" than hobby, that'll be the end of it.

The intent of folks here is fairly clear and in the best interest of all who participate.

No one is agin the sharing of ideas and even building some for some interested buddies.

As one who has spent a great deal of time (by the way, it's my own time and my own money) trying to make whole some folks who have been "taken", I suggest we all know the difference between the "sharing if ideas" and "covert advertising".

Some folks, and this makes reference to no one in this conversation, have attempted to take advantage of unwitting folks here. Their concerted efforts to force Blake and other custodians to read, every word, every post and seek every thinly veiled inference, is indeed tiring.

Fair is fair.
