I'm asking for some input from the trackday / race crowd. I've got 3 dry & 1 wet trackday on a Pilot Race tire set. Considering that I'm (at best) a mediocre trackday rider, will it survive one more before the dumpster? What about if I just replaced the rear?

Thanks for any input you might have.

Sorry to say, but your description is kinda vague. Without seeing the tires, its gonna be impossible to answer your question (imo). We have had tires last two days, and some last 3-4, there are too many factors to determine the life of a track tire as an exact amout of time.

2(and some street riding in between) is the most I've ever got out of a tire.
Change them, it's cheaper than a ride to the hospital.

The front is at about 75% tread remaining, the rear is about 60%. I'm more concerned about heat cycling than wear, the tires have plenty of tread left. They're both race softs.

As far as spares go, I've only got a medium rear that I can get mounted before the trackday (Monday, Summit Point, WV, Team Promotion).

Thanks for the input Dave. I'm CONVINCED though, that your usage of tires on the track exceeds mine. I've seen pictures!

when I'm done wtih MY track day tires, I give em to Dave, and he wears out the edges -- they're iin really good shape when I"m done

he's pretty fast for a hippy

As far as heat cycles I would think there life has been over. They'll be a little slipperier but not by all that much. In the carosel if you find you can't start rolling it on till way late, it's time. You're not racing, it's practice so work on throttle control with the wheel spin. Pretend you're on a R1 with new tires. NO LATE BRAKEING! Track surface will be cold too so be aware. Have fun!

Thanks. Kinda confirms what I read over at the WERA board yesterday. No worries on the late braking, I tend to clamp early anyway!

REALLY looking forward to the carousel. That whole section just looks really fun, and I've watched more races than I care to count from those stands. This will be my first time on that track.

Tip 2. Go slower than you think you should in 8 and stay tight and you'll be set up to rail 9 and the straight going up the hill.
Tip 3 3&10 are where cornerspeed and momentium work. Turn in late on 3. I don't think I'll ever get them right, the whao shi# part of my brain kicks in and I stay brakeing too long and go slow.
