You wouldn't believe the price of a Buell leather jacket over here, we're talking well over $500.

Basic black looks good, but won't necessarily look like anything to cagers. The more reflectors and bright colors, the better.

Ride like you're invisible, you just might be!

Anybody know if there's any armor in those Vansons? I know the leather is good, but a little armor isn't bad either.

You can purchase armor for some of their jackets. Not sure if that is one of them though. I have a two piece from vanson. Great leather crappy armor (i even have the GP stuff). Also the internal parts of the jacket and pants ( the mesh and all that) are made of what has to be the cheapest material on the planet. The stitching sucks on the zippers and the inside mesh. The armor does not fit the allowable space... blah blah blah. Oh and it is not cheap.
I'll never buy vanson products again. Nice leather yes, terrible everything else...yes also.
Go alpinestar or something else that works.

I generally like the Vanson stuff. I have a one-pice suit I bough used (a Penguin rental suit), and it has obviously held up to many crashes - 2 of them with me in them. On the amateur racing circuit, Vanson is known as a suit, that often will only need repairs, not replacement, after a crash. That said, I have been satisfied with this suit, but have no personal experience with other brands.

Their armor, however, has not been tested, and as such can't *promise* anything. Will it help - possibly - but how well is anyone's guess.

check here:

for some guidelines for tested and approved armor types. As of now protective gear is a free-for-all in the US. EU has established CE testing for protective gear. In order for any type of gear to make any reference to "protection" it needs to comply with certain standards, and pass tests to certify compliance.

In the US there is at least one manufacturer, selling a rip-off, claiming CE certification - or now that they've been exposed, the claim to "manufacture to exceed CE standards". In other words ... BS. Seeing as CE testing and approval costs about the same as one magazine ad, it says something about said manufacturer and their business practices.

Anyway : ) Do your research and buy tested and approved armour!
