As some of you know I have been whining about my Cyclone as of late in here and I praised the SV 1000 in here a short while ago. Shame on me. I guess I should have been more informed on the SV 1000 problems and one being pretty serious. Main bearings and shims is the issue I am reffering to in regards to the SV. SV 1000 owners refer to the problem as "The knock" which describes the sound the SV makes. Even a brand new one can have "The knock".Read about it here:

This makes me appreciate my Cyclone. So I have these little minor problems. At least my main bearings are good and I don't have "The knock". How dare I consider an import replacment for the Buell.There is no replacment for the Buell! Some said try the Superhawk. Sure i can go to the gas station every 120 miles with that bike. Thats a lot of fun. That said I did like that bike but, the MPG and range it just very poor for a street bike. You think having two 48 mm carbs might have something to do with its poor milage?:-)Buells Rule!!!!!!!

I happen to have both an XB9R and and SV1000S...both 2003 models. I have heard many things about the problems with the main bearings on the SVs but this is an isolated case of what is supposedly a certain batch of engines with mismatched bearings. I am not defending Suzuki on this but stating what has been found to be the case.

However the TL models that had this same engine, which the SVs were borne from, also had a characteristic vibration that sounded like a knock due to the opposed firing order of the engine...the SVs continue this firing order as well which could attribute to people coming off of an inline thinking there is a problem.

However my bike does not seem to have this problem...there is vibration but no difference in how she feels from idle to 10,000 RPM (yes...this is a v-twin and it has an 11,000 RPM redline...don't know how they did it but there it is on the tach).

Just trying to clarify this is all. I love my Buell too for the fun rides...the SV is mostly a commuter bike although it is fun too!

nothing made by the hand of man will be problem free -- given the level opf performance that even modern baggers achieve, it's amazing that most bikes have relatively minor problems, if any . . .
