Does anyone know anything about what is required to get Buell to bring their demo truck to an event? I'd like to encourage my dealer to try to get them to come to an event that is being planned, but before I suggest it, I'd like to know a bit about what is involved. Specifically, how much it costs, and how much lead time is necessary would be good things to know.

You dealer has detailed information to initiate a request in the package he recieved at the Buell Annual Dealer Meeting.

Best Bet: Visit with your dealer principal over coffee and talk about it. It's getting logistically a tad challenging. Remember the good old days when there were TWO demo teams (Gary Cravillion and Rusty Goin) running about and doing Daytona one day and Willow the next was possible.

Check it out....it's a way cool deal!

Newfie,
Believe it or not you have the potential to make one hell_of_a_shindig gathering, sort of a Woodstock-North if you work it right and if the locals can be persuaded to turn a blind eye to things. If it can happen in Sturgis it can happen in NewFoundland. Might take a few years to get it growing, and would require a dedicated bikes only ferry boat leading up to and following the event, but it could happen.

Well, I'm thinkin' that there's enough musical talent represented on the site here that if enough folks showed up with bikes and music gear it could get real interesting. Could even section off an area for a mud pit where all the religion/war/politics debaters could fight out their opinions. And since the Nashville thing, while probably being planned, isn't updated with any potential dates yet, I'm thinking Newfoundland might make for a nice decent vacation trip in the next year or three.

(It's really amazing what you can find on the net sometimes. And to think this started as a request to get the Buell demofleet to North Carolina.)

Back on topic.
If the dealer wants the demo fleet and they do it like last year, he can sign up for it in January at the dealer meeting in Dallas.

Sorry for the meander.

On the dealer demo fleet issue: will the event schedule also be made known to the dealers in January? Would probably be best to have a fairly flexible schedule with dealer-local event planning if they want to get the demo truck. Plan an event around the truck route.

Daves,
Is the schedule publically postable after the dealer meeting, or is there a gag order in place until the Buell web site is updated, or something else?

It usually isn't finalized until Feb or March.

I'm hoping to get the demo fleet up here in Appleton this year!

Court,
You wouldn't happen to be able to narrow down the time frame would you? January 1st to December 31st is a bit of a wide target to focus planning upon. ; )

Mike:

Excellent point and just in time to catapult you to the position of CHAIRMAN OF THE DATE SELECTION COMMITTEE.

Get two folks to assist you, get me 3 dates that would be good for next late spring/early summer and get back to me.

You love responsibility, I know you do!

The Demo fleet costs approximately $2800 for a 2 day event. We held one in the North GA mountains in March and will do it again next March. We did 240 demo rides in 2 days. Just talk to your local dealer about or I'll post when we schedule the event in March again.

At the Buell demo event in Dayton, OH in August, the coordinator told me there would be 3 trucks next year. Right now they have the big rig (#1) and a second truck with 14 bikes. I was told #3 would also have 14 bikes.

Daves said, "I'm hoping to get the demo fleet up here in Appleton this year!"

If YOU can't get the demo fleet to Appleton, something is seriously fubared at the mothership.

BTW...the folks did a top notch job setting it up at Fayetteville, AR this year. I don't know how much credit goes to the Buell corporate people or the local dealer there but props are due all around.

hey, no MC5 in that link! what the heck, over?

I saw the MC5 at the Boston Tea Party in 1969, as the opening band for the Velvet Underground. The Underground were excellent. The MC5 showed that they could play extremely loud noise while displaying no musical ability whatsoever. However, they did their best to incite the crowd to riot because the Tea Party charged the outrageous sum of $2.00/head for admission.

enthusiasm will often overcome skill, or at least, overpower it -- this seems to have been the basis of much of 60s rock n roll

$2? sheesh -- just about same time, button fly levis went about $7 a pair, and albums crested the $5 mark --

Good thing they have us experienced hands to bring depth to the discussions!

Albums...

A few months ago I decided to get my turntable out of storage and bought a new stylus (that reveived a few looks from salespeople). I was amazed at how good the old albums sounded, and you can't find the MC5's original MF issue on CD.

My enjoyment lasted about 2 weeks, until my 5 year old decided to ruin the new stylus. Another $50 lesson. (as a parent you are NOT allowed to have nice things just for your greedy self.)

The turntable and albums are back in storage.

HD of Baltimore did the demo ride this year and what a hoot. I was a control rider and my first thought was "Buell has to be crazy". Since they had just gotten off of everything from crusiers to enduro bikes, what a show as the rear control rider. A dozen guys wobbeling out of the parking lot. The really neat thing is, after the ride, hardcore biker dudes, kids with jap rockets, and touring beemer guys, suddenly had a shared experience and were all talking like old friends. It really was enlightening and alot of fun and I hope they ask me again.
