Man...i'm getting so fed up with hearing "that will go away after you ride it some more". I still think my M2 has something wrong with it. it feels like it had more power stock than it dose now!!! the Cyclone i test rode before buying mine flew like a bat out of hell. i had to work to keep the front end down...i wouldn't even dream of doing a wheelie with this bike!!!

has anyone ever heard of Thunderslide Jets for a Buell and if so, which is better, Thunderslide or DynoJet??? i think the dealership is giving me the runaround on that subject too. i'm already getting ready to call a different dealership to see if they will look at my bike and fix it and charge my dealership for the work!!!

this sucks...

My service guy strongly suggested that I go with the Yost jet kit. I had him put it on with some other stuff and it seems to do all right.

Kano -- you've got a bunch of choices in your neck of the woods for tuning -- just get er done -- whatever the shortcoming, I'm betting it's minor,fixable asap, and affordably

Kano,

This is a problem with fuel feed caused by the Forcewinder. All the rejetting in the world will not help until it is fixed.

Pull the Fw off and look at the bowl vent area. Is it just the machined groove? If so, this needs some serious enlargement. The KV has good info on this particular item. My M2 with the FW,D-Boss and listed carb adjustments. Only made 55hp on the dyno with both curves all over the map. Showed a definite fuel feed problem. This was confirmed wit the a/f ratio indicator I was running at the time. As soon as I opened the throttle it went full lean and barely recovered from it until..... I fixed the FW induced problem and rejetted by the a/f indication. 22hp magically reappeared overnight. The trq/hp curves on the next dyno run were nice and smooth.

In short get the induction side(forcewinder) fixed asap

I did a lot of things to my M2. Jetting about 15 times and so on. I went back to stock jetting and I hate to say it but it runs a lot better now. If you look on the site for the dyno tests some of the after market stuff simply doesn't work very well and will only cause tuning problems. I removed my air box and found it didn;t run very good at all. Back on it went and now it is much better.

If the test drive M2 ran really good why not be happy with that and put it back to normal.

Loki is right on the money from what I've heard. I don't own a tuber, but I've heard of this issue. It's a simple thing.

I've got a '99 M2 with a K&N filter on it, all I've done to it is put in a 45 slow jet & bored out the air bleed hole in the slide to 3mm. & it goes like a train.

One thing to check is that you have no air leaks between the carb & the heads, you can do this by spraying WD40 or similar around the manifold joints with the engine running on a fast idle, if the engine picks up when you do it it's because you've temporarily stopped the air leaking in & leaning off the mixture.

With any problem of this nature the best thing to do is, put it back to stock & go from there step by step

As Loki says though, check out the KV for more info, or take it to Daves.

Whatever happens don't be discouraged, it's a great bike.

I agree with Mr. Grumpy. I forgot to say in my post that I also have the 45 pilot jet in mine and she goes pretty well I think.

Let me restate something.

All the changes you can do to the carb, will not fix what the Forcewinder with the machined groove bowl vent will cause.


Take a look at this picture:

The Forcewinder on the left is an older one. Notice how the bowl vent area is cast right into it.

The Forcewinder on the right is a newer one. Notice how the bowl vent is a machined slot that comes in to the airstream at 90 degrees.

Recently, I've had two different bikes on the dyno that were equipped with this later style Forcewinder and the stock CV carburetor. Both of these bikes ran AWFUL with the Forcewinder in place, and ran great after simply carving away at the bowl vent area with a die grinder to open it up like the old style.

Kano-DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY! Go with the Mikuni HSR42-11 kit. It's cable ready (uses your existing cables), much easier to jet than the CV40 and has better throttle response. Better yet, it'll work with the Forcewinder without the mod Loki suggested (vent hole is in a different place). They're available on eBay all the time for around 300 bucks. Just do it!

$300.00 for the Mikuni may be okay but to get a little better throttle response that's pretty expensive. Maybe everyone doesn't have the money for that. I would really like to try one on a bike as I think the response on my M2 is excellant. I have no complaint with the Kehin at all. That carb is good for 100 RWHP what else would a person need.

The stock CV is the simplest of carbs and simple to tune. It'll also support up to about 100hp. Flatsides are nice...if you've got a few hundred to get rid of.

Eric,

While my buell is an X1 with FI.
I had a '98 Sportster sport prior. I believe the carbs are the same. I had the dealer add a thunderslide and thought it clearly perked up the bike. I added screaming eagle slip ons and a screaming eagle (k&n) air cleaner at the same time.

I guess in your case if you are going to stay with that dealer, I would go with what they are comfortable and have experience with. I know others that have used both Dynojet and Yost with good luck, but it sounds like you need someone to setup the bike.

Also what is your exhaust system and air cleaner?

Hey Dave, i almost thought about riding up there to have you guys take a look at it. i called Mauston Harley-Davidson (Balas) and talked to one of their service guys that pretty much only works on Buells and he said that (according to the part numbers i gave him) the Thunderslide kit they put in is called the Stage 7 and it's only for drag racing and motors that arent even close to being used on the street!!! he said he dosn't even know why they thought of using that jet kit and says if i take the bike to him he'd replace the jets and dyno tune the bike (as well as check the A/F ratio) for about $200 (not bad if you ask me) and he said after he gets done with it and i do the Forcewinder mod (yes, the dealership told me to do it and even offered to do their mod to it if i wanted them too) that i'll be pulling some serious horsepower and torque. every problem i had with my bike he knew the reason why before i even told him which parts i had on the bike. he said he's fixed a lot of La Crosse Harley-Davidson's mistakes on Buells and all of them had these Thunderslide Stage 7 jets in them. that kit cost me $150 and the one he's gonna put in will only cost me about $40. needless to say i'm going to take the old jets back to La Crosse and tell them i atleast want my money back for the jets and i'm going to try to get in touch with Harley-Davidson itself and let them know what kind of work La Crosse dose. i hope this will take care of my headache [and maybe give me my fuel economy back (only gettin about 78 miles on a full tank)].

it was nice to not hear "that will go away after you ride the bike some more".

This tech told me he's done the mod to 3 bikes and even sent in Dyno charts and reports he's writen up on the subject to K&N. i don't know why they don't do something to fix this problem. they should make a new part and then recall all the old ones.

I have to 2nd the Mikuni. Its a great carb right outta the box, idles better than the stocker, throttle response that a CV wont ever get close to, & it will make you a better lover too: D

The person tuning the bike makes the biggest difference. Dynojet and especially the Thunderslide kits are notorious for having poor setup guides. They can't just be popped in and run. It takes some road testing and a dyno to really get it right.

Some dealers are more concerned with just getting the job done and getting the bike out the door.
