Did they have those pretty ears also?
Walmart Rocks for pickin' up chicks!

I saw a website a few years back with pictures of the nasty places in Michigan. Turned out they were only a couple of miles from me. The only real difference between the north and the south is the reason you insulate.

Me either, it's the commentary.

Now how is the commentary offending?

Its called humor, I think some folks here are lacking the ability to just laugh at life sometimes & want to take everything too damn seriously.

BTW, none of the commentary I posted is made up...its all true. That store truly is mayors headquarters...he owns the store, & is also the head of the local Klan outfit there.

And all ya'll did lose the war so get over it already.

You know you're a redneck when...

You have more household appliances in your yard than you do in your house!

Your dog has a nicer grave marker than you will!

Come on, lighten up! It's just funny! It's not meant to be offensive.

BTW, I thought up those jokes myself so if Jeff Foxworthy steals them I'll sue!

This thread is a borderline troll, IMO. If it was truly meant for CJ, you should have emailed to her directly. Instead, you've gotten a rise out of some folks and you're completely unapologetic. Nice posting etiquette.

Dago talks like he's a southerner, but it's not the south if you cant go to ANY restaurant and get sweet tea.

Dyna you should see some of the places around here. One thing I've never figured out is this southern hospitality thing. The people up in WI are ten times more friendly and down to earth than people in the south. (not everyone, but most)

Here's a polling place up in LA (lower Alabama)

Hospitality depends on where you are - the majority of people in North Carolina arent as nice as people in Tennessee, at least in my comparisons.
And as far as roads go, Ill take Tn roads over Nc roads any day !

Kelly, funny you mentioned the sweet tea, we went to a Huddle House for breakfast & it looked like most of the folks were drinking it.

As far as roads go, Mississippis are pretty much rather boring, but both Alabama & Arkansas have some that rock.

I can say that all of the women that I 'dated' while stationed in Arkansas were 'good' to me.

They definately know that it's impolite for a lady to spit.

There are nice people everywhere. The are asshats everywhere. I recently sold a bike to a guy that lives in Ohio. We spent a couple of hours riding around the area and went to lunch afterwards. He noted how many people in cars waved at us when we met them and how nice the people in the restaurant were to each other.

A couple of days later I told him about a highway road crew that had thrown allot of gravel on the road when brush hogging the shoulders. There was a large bike rally nearby that weekend and it is a popular road for bikers....twisties, switchbacks, etc. I stopped, told the crew this, and expressed my concerns that bikers coming through the area might get hurt. The guys on the road crew said they would drive back up the mountain, check it out, and ask their supervisor if they could come back the next day with the sweeper and clean it up. My friend from Ohio said that if he told that to a highway crew where he lives, they would probably tell him to f**k off.

I might have gotten a bad response in the next county or on a different day but on that day I was proud to be an Arkansan.

We've been the butt of jokes for a long time. Sometimes it gets a bit old. Sometimes it's amusing. If you get upset or complain about it, you're tagged as being overly sensitive, lacking a sense of humor, or being defensive because the shot has hit too close to home. We like to laugh at ourselves and our idiosyncracies but folks tend to get uncomfortable when outsiders start pointing fingers and regarding us as some sort of sideshow attraction.

I have found that making fun of one's self is a more mature and rewarding form of humor. As innocuous as one might consider the occasional jab at another group [be it a racial, religious, or geographic] you should remember that the target of your humor has heard it before, ad infinitum, ad nauseum, etc. While you might think you have stumbled onto a wellspring of material for jokes, we see someone who fell into an abandoned well and has repackaged rancid water as the next big thing.

Perhaps it is a double standard. I enjoy taking photos of odd or humorous things unique to the culture in which I live and sharing them with others. It wouldn't occur to me to cruise the streets of someone else's home snapping photos of a business that burned, a pet cemetery, or a poverty stricken area for the purpose of making fun of them...I just don't "get it." I see a entrepreneur's hard work destroyed and people out of work. I see people who cared enough for their pets to honor them in perpetuity. And I see a place where people have to struggle to get through day while we play on our motorcycles or the internet.

If that is because I'm too provincial or have an unsophisticated sense of humor, I'll gladly own up to that.

Well said aa5ch. I am from the panhandle of Oklahoma. I have heard it all and then some. I now live in the city of sin. No matter where you live if you look you will find things like what is in the pictures. Its fun to laugh and poke fun at, as long it is not meant to be hurt full. A very fine line that one walks when posting or talking about things like what is in the pictures.

I was in New York city in May. We had a sort of family reunion there. Most of us live in Minnesota but we like to have these family get togethers in various areas. One year it was Chicago, another Kentucky, this year it was New York.

Anyway, we were staying in Carlstadt, NJ and taking a bus into the city every day. One day my sister was sitting next to a young woman and she turned to my sister and said, "You're from Minnesota aren't you?" My sister said, "Yes, how did you know?" and the woman said, "By the way you talk. By your accent."

Our whole family was dumbfounded! We don't talk with an accent! People from the south do. People from New Jersey do. People from Minnesota talk normal!

It turned out that the woman was born and raised in Minnesota and had taken a job in New York. She had a good ear and recognized our Minnesota accent.

The point is that everybody thinks "we're normal" and everybody else is "weird".

a pet cemetery

Just for the record, they dont really consider them pets but rather family. And its a very popular place to take pictures, hell some folks even have picnics up there.

PS..why is that its always the newbies to the board who like to complain the loudest about a post? Any answers to that?????

I wish to hell I could find a post that Blake made not that long ago, in it he describes how he doesnt want to prescribe to some silly notion of being PC all the time, he wants to eat meat cooked over fire, etc etc...well that was the gist of it anyways. In other words be a man & not some pansy who wants to cry about every little thing you somehow feel slighted over. The more of the whinings I read from some of the ultra liberals, the more I am tempted to vote republican just to shut up all the cry baby candy @sses. Its hilarious that a women who was born & raised in the south can see the humor & is willing to take it as just that..humor. Yet some of the so-called men around here act like 5 yr old girls who's mom wont buy them a new barbie doll.

John, personally I think we are all weird & messed up in one way or another. Just some of us cant seem to find the humor & or refuse to laugh at what we cant change.

aa5ch, I was'nt demaning 'your people'. In fact, I liked Arkansas. One of my best friends moved back there after 20 years in the Air Force. It must be ok if someone who has lived all over the world wants to move back.

Hell, After my time's up in Wichita Falls Texas, I may ask to be stationed back in AR. It wasnt that bad. I'll admit though, it was a culture shock coming from Chicago.

Being from Chicago (and Irish on top of it) I get plenty of trash talk. Some people aim to hurt, other's are just being humorous. Knowing who's doing what goes a long way.
