The reason for this thread is I can only really afford to have one bike at the current time. Lately I have been pining over the 1997 BUELL S2 Thunderbolt. It is the bike that originally introduced me to Buell. I saw a Buell brochure of all places at a AAFES car dealership in Kunsan Korea in the summer of 1996. Go figure. So any way I am trying to determine the value of my 2002 M2. If you look at my profile you well see the small amount of stuff I have done to the bike. Now for what will bring the price of the bike down. I have dropped the bike once on the left side but replaced ever thing that was damaged except the tank which has some minor scratches from the drop. Another time I actually laid the bike down on the right side. Again I replaced all the parts that where damaged. The bike runs good and has had all of it's servicing done at the dealership where I purchased the bike. What I am looking for is some real honest opinions. I am not saying that I am definitely going to sell my bike, I would just like to know what my options are. Thank you very much BADWEB users for your input. | ||

Ebay sales of similar bikes over the last 6 months or so would put you in the +or - $4000 area. However, there's a very high % of M2's that never reach reserve and aren't sold. Heading into winter, used prices generally head down as the northern half of the country quits riding. A lot depends on demand in your area and how you are able to expose your bike to that demand. For example, there is a Badwebber here in the Portland area that has been trying for months to sell a cherry M2 with new top end, and all kinds of goodies without a single scratch on it. He is down to $4000 with no luck so far. | ||

S2 Thunderbolt or M2 Cyclone? Entirely different machines. S2 was a '95-'96 model with S2T in '96 only. M2 Cyclone and S1 Lightning were new for model year '97... S2's are seriously upscale component bikes well worth $4000+ | ||

I traded in my 2000 M2 with 24k miles on it and some bolt on goodies (and some superficial wear) for $3000, and felt like it was a fair deal for zero effort selling on my part. | ||

Kevyn I know that the two bikes are totally different. But you see I was not able to purchase a Buell until Sept 2001. At that time the best choice for a new Buell was a M2. I could be wrong, but if a bike is produced in 96' then it should be a 97' model. I only ask because I have seen S2s on Cycle Trader that were listed as 97' models. I also realize that a S2 would be worth more than my bike. When I said earlier that I could only afford to have one bike it had nothing to do with the price of a S2. You see in my thinking if I sold my M2 that money would go towards a S2 and I would have to make up the rest. Reepicheep Yeah $3000 is about all that I would expect from my 02' M2. | ||

Ok I did a little research. My bike is a 2002 model. The M2 was produced from 1997 thru 2001. The S2 was produced from 1994 thru 1996. Now some one help me out here, but if I am right that means the last S2 was a 1997 model. | ||

95-96 were the model years for s2, 96-98 for s1, 98 for s1w. m2 and s3-?97-02? most veh mfr's produce the model yr from sep of the yr before to aug of the model yr, ie. 97 produced from sep 96-aug 97. i would try to hold out for around 4 grand or part it out if you have to get the money. what i normally do is drop tag and ins and put it in the shed. you should try to find an s2 to ride before you commit as they are not everybody's cup of tea. good luck, tim | ||

Smoke You have a good point about actually riding a S2 first. The more I look on the net the more I think you guys are right about 1996 being the last model for the S2. Now I am just trying to remember when I saw that Buell brochure when I was at Kunsan, Korea. I was there from December 1994 to December 1996. I just know that it was a S2 because I remember the cockeyed air filter. | ||

Way back in 1969-1970 I was at Kunsan AFB, Korea. Anyway, good choice to plan on buying the bike that captured your heart. In time it won't be your only bike but it will always be your favorite, and it would be the bike you'd kick yourself for not having. | ||
