My girlfriend has expressed an interest in learning to ride.

I saw this pic posted here somewhere and thought it to be one of the coolest looking Buells I've ever seen, even though it's a Blast (I think). It looks like it would be perfect for her.

So this brings me to my question for you all:

Is this indeed a Blast frame? Is there a good source for the mods this bike has?

Ok...questionS...

Thanks in advance!

Start with a XB9R. She'll love it.

Its the Crossroads Blast - with all their regular goodies - LP cafe fairing, 42 mikuni flatside with off road in take, dyno jetted with a custom exhaust starting with the stock header, steped at headers end to 1 3/4" id pipe to a Suppertrap Universal 3" - probably with 21 discs or so (definately more than 12 though by the pics I have). Yeah the main frame is stock the tail section is custom - probaly either a clubman cafe seat or the clubman seat they sell for sporsters. It handles like a pig due to the long swing arm and chain conversion for the bigger rims/tires - looks cool though - a great start for a Blast Dragster - lol - if only they had added a NHRS stage 3 kit as well - then it would have been a total package instead of just a proto.
Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ

Ouch that hurts :-)

I have a Blast and I love it. I don't think you will go wrong if you get one for her.

Of course you will have to let her pick out the mods if you want her to like it. Bye bye Blast in the picture above. Hello Blast with purple plastic

Actually there are 3 great reasons to buy a used purple blast:
1) best beginner bike in the world (it will teach her to ride).
2) low demand for purple makes a used one 20% cheaper than any other stock color.
3) No need to lock it up. Who'd want to steal it?

Rek - The ladies do like purple. My daughter wants to paint her room purple. She is not old enough to drive yet, so I dont know if there is a purple bike in her future or not.

That Crossroads Blast kicks @ss. I tried to coerce my wife into a Blast...she hates 'em vehemently.

The Blast is an excellent starter bike. She's light...she's nimble...she's quick. I think the Blast would definitely build your girlfriend's confidence. I ride cruisers for comfort but I ride my Blast for fun!

Hey Jim! How are you? Well, the Blast is in the shop recovering from Runnin' the Ridge, the Suzuki Intruder just rode away from my house with its new owner and I can't pick up my 2005 1200 Custom Sportster until next weekend. And, my hands aren't ready to squeeze the brake or pull in the clutch yet. WAAAHHH!

My wife started out on a GS500, and rode a Blast @ the Hoot and Hated it ! I guess she was already too far gone to be Blasted - Anyway, she took the MSF course and really learned alot from it. SHe agress that it was a good place to start. Now that shes been bitten, she will be doing her 3rd trackdday with me next week ! its really cool when both of you can go to races and talk about the lines different riders are using . Be supportive and encourage her without be over powering . But thats just my opinion.

Bumblebuell - Sorry about your hands. That must have been a nasty fall. I thought you would have recovered by now, despite what they told you. I guess Doctors really do know something :-) With all the bandages they gave you, you should be able to tell some pretty good stories though :-)

Sounds like there are a lot of bikes at your house. Be sure to post a picture when you get your sportster!

When my wife started to learn how to ride I bought her a Suzuki gz 250. We bought that instead of the blast because she thought it looked cooler (I did too) but after a year she outgrew the suzuki. We should have bought the blast!

EZBlast, thanks for all the great info. It sounds to me that this may be a great winter project!

I showed the pic to my girlfriend and she instantly loved the look. After she read all of these posts, she laughed and told me that she didn't want purple OR orange. She wants it to be painted to match the Mexican flag! LOL So red, green, and white it is.

But I think I'm going to start off with a purple one. ; )

My wife's Blast has been an excellent re-entry/beginner bike (she had lots of experience before wandering away from riding, got her a Blast for her b'day a few years ago, and she's doing great on it!)

they are easy to fix after unplanned bike/asphalt interfaces (big get off at the gap), the parts are available new/used everywhere, and, with mods, can be made as fast as a fairly new rider should ever want to go

They are this century's Honda 305 -- higer praise doesn't exist, I'm thinkin

I'm with Bomber on that one,

The Blast is a very forgiving bike, handles well, stops good and can take a beating. We have one as a training bike and it usually goes down at least once a weekend

After doing a little homework on my own, I like the fact that these things are cheap to buy, repair, and modify. I expect her to drop this thing a few times at least. She'll be taking a rider class before getting her license, but still...

So I'm now on the hunt for a good used Blast. I hope it gets her hooked!

Dago - If she takes the Riders Edge class from Harley, she will be on a Blast. It's nice to learn on the same thing you are going to be using.

I took the class this past July. I dropped the bike in the class which taught me two important things:

1 - Don't grab the front brakes in a turn
2 - Learn to ride on somone elses motorcycle

Sounds like your making good progress. I hope you find a good bike and I hope she loves it.
