Not sure if this link was ever posted here, but I'd like to hear some responses on what you think about this bike...

I love it.

Other than the tank and tailsection I don't see anything too special.

Not bad for a production bike from the late seventies!
Harley's version of a cafe racer.
I hope to have one in my garage one day.

I've seen much better cafe conversions of a sportster than that. Let me see if I can find some pics of what I would like of a Cafe'd sporty ...

I like it. A reproduction of the XLCR.

You can pick up an original XLCR for about $9,000 which is kind of odd since only a little more than 3,000 of them were ever built. I would have thought an original would be worth a lot more.

I like it a lot, but IMHO ALL of the cafe Sportsters, including the French one, need an 18" rear wheel to look like a Cafe Racer. I never have liked the 16" rear wheel on a Sportster, other than a fully chopped one. Willy G. missed out on a great opportunity with the intro of the "new" Sporster last year; they should have had a "25th Anniversary XLCR" model.

I came within a gnat's of buying an XLCR in 1979 shortly after I'd graduated from college (it would have been my first bike), but my dad talked me out of it. The local Harley dealer had 3 in the showroom at the time; it would have cost around $3000. (sigh...)

IIRC- the Blast Cafe was on ebay a while back. Too bad the factory doesn't make one that looks like that...

The XLCR is the first bike I ever fell in love with. Someone was selling one in AZ with original ceramic pipes for 1000 dollars. Good condition. My older brother was holding my moola and wouldn't give it to me to buy it (cuz he had spent it!). Those bikes are collectors now. I still haven't forgiven him.

The XLCR, Ducati 900SS, BMW R90/S, Moto Guzzi LeMans, and Laverda Jota were the bikes that I dreamed about in study hall in the late 70's.

If you like street trackers, how about this one by former HD racer Mert Lawwill:

Djkaplan - I'm a little younger, but when my friends dreamed of GSXR's and VFR's I was lusting after Guzzi's, Laverda's and the XLCR. Almost bought a 1000 Sporty with the idea of turning it into an XLCR replica.... But now I have a Buell!
I love the french bike, looks great, and soooo black : ) But I agree with Whodom, would look even better with 18", or even 17" wheels. 18" spoke wire wheels with polished rims would look cool to me ; )

I have always liked the XLCR. It was different from the other Harleys, like my Buell. Still hope to ride one someday.

Whodom...Thanks for the website. Makes for some fine reading and dreaming. Will be following the development of that bike for sure. Can't wait to see the dyno results. Just might be the replacement for my X1 unless Harley introduces this "Old Man's Version"...

The Lawwill bike is a fake.

I can see photoshop written all over it.

I dig the one Tucson posted.

If Mert Lawwill is behind that bike, It isn't a fake. Not only was he a National Champion, but he manufactured very trick racing parts for XR 750s for years.
Oh, if only I could win the lottery....

Evil- Well, duh, obviously the pic is a photoshop, but the bike is real. Click here:

http://www.mertlawwill.com/news.htm

for photos of the prototype under construction. Since retiring from motorcycle racing, Lawwill has evidently been designing mountain bikes (bicycles) and has developed patented suspension systems. Looks like he's trying to apply some of that same innovation to a motorcycle now.
