i ordered a chrome oil tank for my sportster from steel thunder custom cycles.
http://www.steelthundercc.com/index.html
i would like to let everyone know about the great service they gave me. the new tank was only $101.85 with free shipping and they had it in my hands in four days. when i took it out of the box i noticed it had a small dent in it just below the filler. when i called to tell them about it, they said i was the second person to call about the same thing that day. the man offered to ship me another one or give me the dented one for $50. i said i'd prefer a new one and he said no problem, he would ship it right away and arrange for pickup of the dented one. the following week i received another tank (this time no dents). when i called back to find out why nobody picked up the dented tank, he said i could keep it for free. in the future i will try to buy parts from them whenever i can.

Mind if I ask why you didn't just get the chrome oil tank cover??? Saved money and you can't really tell!Just curious because I was thinking of getting the whole tank at first until my boss recommended the cover.

well for one thing i don't like covers, but in this case i don'd think the factory oil tank cover fits my 88 model anyway.

I gotta buddy that swears chrome oil tanks run hotter than black ones cause the chrome doesn't dissapate the heat like the black ones do......paranoid now?

old school takes the part off and has it chromed...
now a lot of folks screw, glue or bolt covers over everything. it does leave a shiney trail to follow home!
