I overfilled my oil in my '00 X1....checked it while cold and added oil. When I started it and warmed it up the oil cap blew off and she puked oil everywhere. I have since removed what I believe to be enough oil but the oil appears to be foamy during the warm up. It looks like there are bubbles in the oil. Did I not remove enough of the excess oil? While running you can see the oil flowing thru the resevoir so I assume the pump and all is fine. What is the deal with the bubbly oil? Thanks, Skip

A small amount of foam and some bubbles are normal. Now if you are talking about a latte type pile of whipped cream, then something may be amiss. You probably know that your motor 'wet sumped'. Some small particle is stuck between the check ball in the oil pump and oil seeps past into the crank case. So, if you check the level when cold it is low. As soon as you start it up the pump will scavenge the oil from the crank case filling up the oil tank. Common problem. Just don't bother to check it when cold. Good luck.

Thanks folks! I will watch it closely for a while and make sure all is well. It was just a little foamy on the top. Newfie...you are not kidding...it will flat shoot out the top when the cap goes!

I think almost everyone has done that. I blew my oil cap off so high and far, it took me a while to find it. I wasn't real pleased with the blast pattern it left on my shirt either.
