Well, I hope I am not the only person to learn from this (and Tedk), I could not afford this, and it was not cheap, but I went and got it today anyway. Its from Dainese and quite comfortable, massive protection. I hope others follow suit. I wear an AGV sport jacket that already has some back padding, but that is not enough. If you cant tell from the photo the outer shell is hard, but the inside is some kind of foam armour. It gives me a kind of snug secure feeling. And my wife says it looks sexy!

Neither is there any reason to im ply that such an incident is in any way attributable to an error on a route map. Pete screwed up, simple as that. There is no-one else to blame for that. It is really unfortunate that you see fit to imply that BRAG might be culpable.

BRAG is NOT culpable in any way, I never said that, can I be any clearer? If what I wrote even gave the hint of placing blame on BRAG that was not my intention and I'm sorry it came out reading that way.

I'm really in no mood in debating the semantics of this with you, Blake.

How long before Brag decides enough is enough & pulls the plug on the riding type tours? Obviously there is nobody to blame but the rider himself who screwed up, but combine enough of these events with screw ups that occur in them & it gives the entire Buell community a black eye.

I know if I were running the company I would be a little gunshy right now about hosting any future events. Not because I was afraid of any potential liability issues, but purely from the standpoint of not needing the negative publicity surrounding the events.

I tend to shy away from large group riding events if possible because the testosterone level gets pretty damn high & all of us tend to do stupid things at times. Sometimes avoidance is the only way to protect ones self if a lack of self restraint cannot be exercised.

I feel badly for those who got hurt, but I feel worse for the black mark that incidents like this tend to portray all riders in the same light.

According to New12r

Updating on Shreds condition. Earlier today Glitch, A4TR, Sam, and I all took Shred to the ER for pain in his calf. Turns out he has a blood clot and will be in the hospital for the next few days.

Senseless bull5hit??

Folks crashing & getting seriously messed up due to something such as a deer running out in front of them is one thing. But to ride in a reckless manner & then have anyone associated with them deny this or refuse to discuss the circumstances surrounding it is reckless. How many more riders have to be seriously hurt before we as a group take it upon ourselves to police our sport? I thought folks would have learned after the death during the Brag Southwest event. Obviously thats not the case however.

Thanks for posting the accounts of these wrecks- I think this is some of the best "riding skills" reading we can all do. Hopefully these accounts will help one of us from having a similar repeat in the future.

I don't know how behind I am on things as far as this or any other thread goes but skimming over sounds like an update is in order.
Sorry if I sound rambling or unorganaized in my thoughts or what have you.
It's been a very long weekend, lack of sleep, riding and driving for hours trying to pick up all the pieces has taken it's toll on me physicaly but mostly emotionaly.
Rebecca and I met up with Gator and cominced to try and gather up everything including Mike, and get everything and everyone back to Atlanta.
Mike had to go back to the hospital today running a fever. Looks as though his wound is infected. So Charlie (New12r) and I did our best to carry him back to the Jeep and get him the help he's needed.
I've been worried sick over Pete. Only hearing bits and pieces of second hand information. Well he just called. I nearly dropped the damned phone. He's had a titanim disk to replace the one shattered, and has avoided having to have anything fused together. He's upbeet and has decided to get through this. What Jose' said is exactly what I heard from everyone else that saw it. As well as Mike's accident.
I'm so f'n mad, heart broke, angry, sad, pissed off, upset person you'd ever wann meet right now.
It's probably a good thing I have no energy left or I'd really be a mess.
Mike and Pete both are most thankful to everyone and their support. Rebecca is taking good care of Mike, as is Charlie and Samantha. Pete's still in Tennessee, but I believe he has som family there with him.
These guys are two of my best friends and I don't know what to do or say. I support both of them regardless of how they got where they are right now.
We don't have to fight over what is right or what is wrong.
Please stop.
All of us have made posts of irresposible riding, be it running from cops to running 172mph on a public road. The only difference is we're not broken because of it.
Let's not argue and help some guys out, if by no other way than remaining positive.
I met some of you this weekend, and am glad to call you friend. I hope I get to see ya'll again along with more new friends, so you can meet the real me, and not some streesed out lunatic resembling the guy known as Glitch.
Hope to have some good news soon.
Ya'll ride safe.

senseless: lacking sense or understanding or judgment

I am not denying or refusing to discuss anything related to this matter. However, I request you begin this discussion on a new thread as this one should be dedicated to support and sympathy not critical review of riding skills or judgment.

Although I do not know Pete or Mike, I was at the event and feel very upset and sad about their injuries. I am thinking about them and praying that they make full recoveries.

I agree that their needs to be a discussion about the safety issues, but not here and not until we know that they are "out of the woods". Right now we need to support them in any way we can.

I can agree with this.

Blake, I would love to let such things go, but I myself am still hurting over losing a fellow co-worker & rider last week. Enough said for now...another topic for another time.

Stealth,
just sent a contribution through paypal.

I agree on the purpose of the forum, keep us posted on the progress.

I also think we need a thread on the good parts of the rally. It was a lot of fun and I think it was very successful.

Judging by the contact I had with Mike and Pete (and Gator), I'd think they would agree.

The accidents are very unfortunate, but thats what they were accidents. Lets learn from them , help Mike and Pete out as much as possible, and move along.

Mike has a blood clot in his right leg, We drove him to the ER Sunday and they admitted him later that day. He also has an infection in the opening where the metal rod was inserted, so right now he is layed up getting the care he needs. The only info I have on Pete is what Glitch posted above. Glitch, seen the look in your eyes sunday, I hope you got a break to catch you sanity! This has been a trying experience for all of us and yes I hope we all learn from these mistakes, I have.

Shred was taken to the hospital yesterday at noon with pain in his calf. He said it hurt worse than where the incision was or the rod. After 2 hours of waiting on a gerny(sp) in the hallway of the ER he notices his incision is bleeding and has bled through the bandages.
Finally about 2 hours later they get him into a observation area. We take the bandages off and notice that his incision is infected, while we are cleaning his leg I start to clean his knee and notice 6 staples in his knee NO ONE TOLD US ABOUT??? They look good but we have no idea why no one told us about them. They take him and do an ultrasound and determine he has a blood clot in his leg.

So now he is in the hospital for a min of 5 days. The Dr said that if he only had the blood clot issue he could go home and take blood thinners from home, but since he has the infection they need to watch him very close and may have to open the incision to let the infection drain.

The pain killers take the edge off but he is still in quite a bit of pain.

I just got home, to my house about 20 minutes ago after leaving Friday Morning with Glitch- Thanks so much Glitch & Gator FOR EVERYTHING YOU GUYS DID!!!
It was nice to meet those that I did when I was in Boone, Thanks for all the kind words and I'll let you guys know what's going on as I know and am near a computer.

Just for the record after reading allt he posts on this, Michael/Shred is a VERY safe, skilled rider, he does have his moments and 'pushes it' as we all have done. But it isn't his riding 'style'. He has over 27,000 miles on his 03 and NOT hwy miles, they are almost all mtn miles. He has only had ONE incident and that involved a wheelie, Not a bad track record.
It was the luck of the draw. If the car hadn't been there things would be quite different and we would just be saying -'good job, great way to pull that off.'

He had 3 options after he hit the gravel and recovered AT the double yellow-
1) cut the corner sharper and possibly slide on more gravel and go under the car
2) hit the car head on
3) Stand the bike up and gun it to the other side of the road into the gravel pull-off and lay it down.(which obviously is what he tried to do)

It takes a skilled rider to evaluate a situation like this in a split second. He took the route with the least potential for injury. Either one of the other options probably would have led him to the bed next to Pete in ICU.

My prayers are with Pete!!!

Does Torqer have access to or need a Laptop for use in his hospital room? I can't unfortunately offer a monetary assitance but would be very happy to clean up my harddrive and send him the use of my laptop for as long as he is in the hospital, or a more permenant solution arises. I do need my laptop back at somepoint for school.
