this book is from 1987 i think. it has 32 dyno runs with descriptions of the changes. back then they didn't have all the cool stuff we got now, but a lot can still be learned about making power and also the quality of power. it looks like maybe branch was hired by the motor company to develop the 1200cc motor. and so what did they end up making? this is what they claim.

pistons........1200cc flat top 3.5" bore
cams...........andrews v4 with hydraulic tappets
carb...........44mm mikuni #370 main jet
air cleaner....se
exhaust........supertrapp dual 21 disc
heads..........branch #4
ignition.......dual plug,andrews coils,timing 30d
spark plug.....6r12 .028 gap
push rods......se adjustable
gas............92 oct
compression....8.5 to 1 175 lb cranking pressure

95.6 hp @ 7500 rpm and 74 flb tq @ 5500 rpm and at a more reasonable 6500 rpm 88.3 hp

Jerry Branch is an object of worship in some circles -- what little success my flattracker had was due entirely to his work (and my keeping my eyes closed)
