Here is the problem. When I fill up and lean the bike back on the stand it will start to leak fuel. My bike is a 2001 M2, no major changes to the engine. The bike used to leak if I filled to with in 1/2 inch of rubber neck. Now it leaks when filled to with in 1-2 inches from rubber neck. Traced vent hose and no kinks. The problem seems to be getting worse. The bike did sit for over 1 year while I was over seas. But it did this before I left. One other thing if this helps, It happens when bike is hot or cold; the out side temp makes no diff.

You sure your Float isn't sticking???Try shutting off your gas when its not running and see if it leaks.Then you'll know if its hung up.

It leaks only after I fill up. The fuel is shut off. When enough gas leaks out or when I ride for a little while it does not leak again. The carb was cleaned right after I got home in March of this year. I has been doing this ever since I bought my bike. The dealer could not find any thing wrong.

Are you over filling? I did once with my S2 and it let me know right away by pissing gasoline. Now I fill it to the "rubber" neck edge while it is on the side stand and I have had no issues.

No like I said it happens when I fill to with in 1 or 2 inches of the "rubber" neck edge.

If I fill to the neck edge while the bike is up-right my S2 dribbles. I make it a point now to only fill while the bike is on the side stand. I hold a decent amount less gas, but at least I don't leak.

Where is it leaking from? At the carb? Fuel cap? Petcock?

I used to get a little gas out of the fuel cap if I overfilled it. Now I only fill to just below the rubber neck and it doesn't leak.

If it's leaking from the little drain hose under the bike by the muffler, it's coming from the tank vent valve. Mine does this when filled to within an inch. It's normal. Don't fill past the rubber.

Jake:
Mine does the same thing. Another cause for it (especially out here where we live) is due to fuel expansion from the heat. When you fill your bike up on a cold morning, and then dont burn off a lot and park it where it will heat soak for the day, the fuel expands and it will come out of the vent. Soo.. especially when its hot, you just dont fill it as much.

It leaks from the the drain hose under the bike. It does it on the side stand and upright. The out side temp does not matter. Filled up in the mountains does the same thing as when down here in the desert.

Even though the tank looks like it can hold it, it really can't. Capacity is a little less then what the owners manual says.

Thanks for the info. Going to pull the tank vent this weekend and make sure nothing is a miss with it. Going to trace the vent hose also. It just seems to be getting worse. Could be me.
Thanks all.

Jake;
Check the KV for recalls-some of the bikes were affected by a recall on the vent valve, if I'm not mistaken. Yours is one of them. Bulletin # 815. Make sure it's been done.

Vegas...he's on an M2...you've got an XB. Same symptons but maybe different causes. I think the source of yours is just from overfilling. Scared the crap out of me the first time. Thought for sure I had a fuel leak!
