Ok, I am not doubting any of you experienced guys, and I am not dropping a trolling line for a flame, but is 130 really all this bike will do? I ask because of this... a buddy from work has a new 04 Dyna with the 1450. We made a little (2 mile) run on the interstate. I stayed with him from the point we left the redlight, right on down the ramp and the interstate. At 110 indicated, we both backed off as we entered the tunnell where the cops hide at the exit. Now it felt like to me that I had a lot of throttle left and for da** sure felt like a lot of A** left in the engine. Any comments/experiences to share?

It will indicate 140 or close to it. Actual speed should be somewhere around 132.

Once you get into 3 figures, if s**t happens you're probably f****d anyway, so what's it matter if it's 130 on a Buell or 180 on a R1.

I've seen just over 150 indicated on my old FJ1200
(probably 140ish real world) and things come up awful fast, instinct takes over because thinking time doesn't exist at those speeds.

That's why I love the Buell, I can have so much fun without too much risk to life & licence.

The poor old Yam only gets out now when I've got friends visiting & need another bike.

Go careful & keep it shiny side up.

grumpy... I tell ya what, I have nothing to prove to anyone , not rice riders or anyone else on the road.. 110 was plenty fast!

I agree completely in the triple digits, you are just road mush if you ever come off of the thing. (for any reason) Me, I'd like to keep riding till I'm so old they have to help me get on the bike!

I'll keep the shiny side up for sure!

There is nothing magical about triple digit speeds. You are just as dead if you smack a tree or car at 75 mph as opposed to 130. Really not a whole lot of difference there. Hell out of the 4 riders in town who died in the last 2 weeks, 3 of them were doing 50 mph or less at the time of the accident.

You right Dyna,

Most fatal accidents occur at speeds less than 50 and pretty close to home as well.

I think 130 is fast enough - with the S1 you can have some good fun.

Yeah but most of those "accidents" involve an ex-lover and a dull hacksaw

At about 133 your skin is likely to peel off so just be happy to keep your largest organ in tact.

Dyna, I get what you mean, but I think there is something magical about higher speeds. Total stopping distance goes up non linearly with speed (I forget to what degree, don't think it is a squared relationship).

Thats just a fancy way of saying that if it takes you 100 feet to come to a stop at 60 mph, it will take much more then 200 feet to come to a stop at 120 mph.

Do the 12's go faster than the 9's??? I've never gone over 130 yet on my 12 but it feels like there's a little more room! (Not trying to start the 12 vs. 9 thing.....Honestly!!!)

See the "205 mph ticket" thread...I think 130 is plenty enough for me. 5hit happens REAL fast at that clip and quite frankly I don't think my reaction time is up to the task!

Would all those who purchased a Buell to obtain maximum top speed please raise your hands......

<<release the gas Corporal....we owe it to Darwin>>

Please understand who you are, what you want/need and are buying.

If top speed is your thing (I'll abstain from the debate) cut to the chase and buy a Hayabusa like my riding partner has or send your Buell and a boatload of money ($$ grease all wheels) to Aaron, Pammy or Ron Dickey.

Oh yeah...and I know I've asked this before, but please a show of hands from all who have, in the USA, maintained 100MPH+ for 30 continuous minutes or longer?

I know...I know....flame away.

: )

Told my wife that the fastest I've been on my bike is only 100. Her response, "Oh God, Don't tell me that!"

Guess, I'll keep that to myself from now on, : ) . I don't have much desire to go much faster than that, at least on the road. I think I'll save it for when I'm able to go to track.

I think most of the fatal accidents that we've had down here in Yuma were at intersections, and it was the cager hitting the bike, and the bike was just taking off.

Can you survive a high speed accident/crash? What kind of safety gear and how did you go down or crash. Either way, I wouldn't want to find out.

We have a Marine down here who was going home on his R6, doing the speed limit of 35, at the last second a truck coming head on turned right in front of him. He locked up, his head went through the passenger window and his bike went over the truck. He was wearing his helmet and gear. He walked away with a concussion, broken leg, I believe he has pins in, and other injuries.

HMm .. maximum sustained speed was mach .8, but not on the ground. Does that count??

Seriously... I didnt buy the Buell to break speed records with. It is by far one of the best handling and most enjoyable bikes that I have owned. It is a purpose built bike. I agree ..buy one for your purpose.

You may be "just as dead" at 75 as well as 150, but I tell you, your chances of wiping out at 75 are a hell of a lot lower than at 150, all things being equal.

But, I am sending your an organ donor card anyway, as we need the organ if you don't really want them.

I went as fast as my M2 would go. Once. As soon as I got there I backed off, not wanting to stress anything. I was in an environment well suited to the situation, and it was something I just wanted to do, you know, stretch her out a little, just to see. I would be shocked if I ever have the urge to do it again, not that it was not fun, but thats just not what I'm into really I guess. That said though I've done it to a couple Jap bikes too, including an 04 R1 (though I did NOT bring that one as fast as it could, I was too scared to even look down and see where I was on the speedo). Anyway my speedo on the m2 said 140, right where it stops counting. Dont know if thats how fast I was going, just what it said.

All Vegas really asked was "How much more is there?". I think we tend to buy what we like but always want to know "What'll it do?". I've always been one to enjoy seeing the speedo flip past 100, and have given the throttle an extra bounce if I happened to look down and see high 80's. It bugs me that my S3T seems to really bog down in the 90's. For what it's worth, I've had a number of vehicles up to a registered 130 -- Top end for a couple of them but otherwise that must be my mental limit.

August 2002, I-25 between Cheyenne, WY and Orin WY, 110 miles at 100+. Gas mileage dropped to 39mpg!

I have only seen 130+ maybe 3 times in 15,000 miles.

May 2001, I-40 going East from Flagstaff. K1200LT average about 42 mpg with a 40 knot tailwind. Saw 147 GPS indicated on the k1200rs when I was testing the BMW cruise control. It does not work above about 120mph. Safety thing I guess. Other than that I pretty much run the speed limit. Once you've been on the Salt the need for speed goes way down.

About 110 for about about 30 minutes on 60 west from wickenberg. The straight road was pissing me off. After that, I kept it right around 90-110 deep into california. That's pretty much what traffic was doing...

This past June coming back from a trip up Hwy 1, taking I-5 south out of Patterson toward Bakersfield, my wife & I did 100+ (indicated) for just under an hour on my Valkyrie. We were following a CHP car and would have kept it up but that bike gets really thirsty at speed & I had to tank up.
