Went out for lunch today and I noticed (while just coming back from a 2 mile jaunt to Subway) a slight tick from the valve train. Is this normal Buell Noise? Now I havent changed the oil as of yet. I am hoping to do that this weekend, but the oil in the bike is at least clean and to the proper level.

Thanks
Nick

If it sounds like rocks are bouncing around beneath your rocker covers...all is well.

~LOL~ Yeahhh I guess you could say that it sounds like that. I don't hear it at speed really, just at idle. (idle 1050rpm)

Thanks, that eases my mind.

Mine sounds like an old sewing machine on steroids having a fit, & I too couldn't believe the racket was OK til I heard some others, now unless it goes BANG I don't worry.

How did you hear a slight ticking over all that "other" noise?

Ya wanna really scare yourself?
Yes?
I knew you did.
Once you're used to the Buellish sounds, ride around the block without your helmet on.
You'll hear all kinds of noises!

I can hear the slight ticking almost all the time if I really listen, unless I'm heavy with the throtle. I was a bit worried about it. So I shouldn't be?

Glitch...I did that around the circle of our townhome community. My neighbors just love me. Especially when I start it in my garage with the door open. Talk about a megaphone!

It is really amazing the difference in sound with out a helmet on. I was shocked the first time I rode without it. I kept putting my head down trying to figure out what the new sounds were.

I love those soft pink ear plugs that Walmart sells. My Cyclone's valvetrain makes no noise. What "noise" are you talking about? : ]

Noise--you aint heard nothin',try it with a set of aftermarket cams and rockers etc.The stock stuff is fitted for "low noise".Then you'll really think somethings wrong.

I used to worry about engine noise too. Here is a trick, start your bike and let her idle. Now take a big towel folded up a bunch of times and (for just a couple seconds) hold it over your exhaust pipe's outlet to dampen the exhaust note so you can really hear the engine.
See? Just your valves singing a hooligan tune for you.

Go listen to a Ducati some time. Sounds like a hay baler.
Great bikes, though.

I cured my curiosity Glitch... I rode next to a Blast during a cruise down the blvd here in Vegas. That thing made all the noises my bike makes seem somehow insignifcant! No more worries after that!

air cooled engines are noisy, the noises from my s1 are nothing compared to the ones that emitted from my air cooled kawi 4 cyl. Like Nedwreck said go listen to a Duc sometime, especially an old bevel cam drive.
