Kia comes with a good deal. What is it... I think it's 10yr 100,000 miles, something like that. Smart shopping, you can get that Sorento knocked down quite a bit also. We walked out with a 2004 Kia Sedona only paying about 14,500. Oh yeah, fully loaded, DVD. Only thing it didn't come with was the towing package, which I wish we would have done, now I have to do it and I'm having a hard time figuring out how this ones gonna be wired up. The sedona has all kinds of electronics in the back and wires everywhere. Nice van though. |

yea the sticker on the one I liked was almost $30K. But after their rebates & whatever goofy excuses they use to get you in, the price was down to $24K. Compared to what I have seen on vehicles such as the Ford Explorer, Toyota tundra, etc etc, that Kia is a huge bargain for what you get.
First new car I ever bought was an 88 Ford Festiva...it was actually built by Kia & was the first car they imported here. I beat the hell outta car & except for gas, oil & tires never had to stick a single nickle into it. Sold it when it had 120,000 miles on it...still running like new. |

Cadillac with the Northstar...good choice
Next...Ford Crown Vic or Mercury Grand Marquis
The trick here is that they are rear wheel drives(The Fords), they were all previously owned by little old ladies and grandpas so they were never abused, smoked in, well maintained, and NOBODY WANTS THEM! The ugly stepchild. Hence, the resale on them is mere pennys on the dollar. They easily will go 200K or more with minor pattern failures(EGR port plugging, and air suspension problems). You can't beat what they are using for police cars and taxis.
Ford Explorers go real cheap also, I don't have an answer for that though so I can't help you there.
Now the Toyos have alot going for them also, alot of folks are driving them in the UP of Michigan, I guess they don't rattle when they get a few miles on them and that must be important to them(Me, I'm just deaf) My first new car was a VW Jetta 4 door diesel. I sold that to a dog trainer when it was 12 years old and had 325,000 miles on it, and it still ran like a top. I used to tow snowmobiles and jet skis with it. I wish I kept it. It easily got 44+mpg at 70 mph with the air on. |

Next...Ford Crown Vic
One very bad thing about those cars is you cant speed in em. What I mean by that is you are cruising down the highway & everyone you come up on thinks its a cop car & they hit the brakes. You spend more time dodging clowns who are locking em up. My buddy works for the IRS & has a government issued Crown Vic, he hates it simply because of this problem. |

You can keep the Cadi's there a mechnical nightmare once out of warranty.I know have a family member that works on them and we just sold my mothers.I'll take a new Lincoln over a new Cadi any day. |

Oh yeah, I forgot, a Towncar is the same as a Crown Vic or Mercury and won't be mistaken as a cop car. |

Dyna, Think Jeep. I have one of the older style (ended in 2000) Cherokees with the straight six and I LOVE it. That motor has plenty of power for towing your bikes, they have plenty enough room, with decent tires they almost cant get stuck, and they make you look rugged. Just my opinion, and you'll save thousands if you buy one like I have. (But you cant have mine). |

I forgot to say this. I know you said no pick up trucks but I'll give my opinion on one. I just bought a Chevy Colorado Z-71 4x4 regular cab with a five-speed and five cylinder. It is so fun to drive, gets great gas mileage, and with the locking rear differential it does friggin' awesome donuts. Just in case you totally change your mind and get an American truck. But seriously don't get something from the east. |

R1 I was looking at another thread and you said something about east St. Louis. Do you live on the good side of the river? Are you a Cardinals fan? I was born and raised there. G, I dont live anywhere near East St louis...just been in the area a few times.
BTW you will be happy to note that I decided against the Kia...although it is a super nice vehicle. The hefty price tag..almost $5K more than I was willing to pay as well as the rather poor gas mileage crossed it off my list. Decided to go with this
Chevy Equinox...although I really dont even know what country its produced in..havent looked. |

Those new chrysler R/T s aren't bad. can pull the weight and have the power and look better than a freaking mini van or some SUV wanna be. get the Hemi engine and the tow package instead of sport package. got that old station wagon styling with good handling and upadated stlye. A friend bought one and towed a 23 ft. Baja ski boat quite a few miles and did it well |

Dyna, you had a Ranger, didn't you? would you recommend one based on your ownership experience?
Anybody else have anything to say about Rangers? I'm thinking that a four cylinder, five speed standard trans would be both economical and reliable. I'm going to have to get a vehicle for the winter, and I like Pickups. I also think that gas prices are going to skyrocket right after the election, so I'm thinking a Ranger would get better mileage than a full size pickup. Good stories, bad stories, love them, hate them, whatever. |

Crusty, I really liked my Ranger. Damn good truck but its just getting old & has a lot of miles on it. I havent driven one of the newer ones but based on my experience with the small V6 in mine & other folks with 4's I couldnt recommend the 4 if you plan on hauling anything. You can certainly get decent gas mileage, just dont plan on using it like an F250. |

Crusty, If you are buying new look at the Chevrolet Colorado. It has an 185hp I4 and if I remember they are rated to get 26mpg. I just bought a crew cab with the 220hp I5 and it gets 20 to 24mpg. |

I'm with R1. My experience is more than 15 years old so take it with a grain of salt, but my roommate had a Ranger with a 4, I had an S-10 with a small 6 (4.11 rearend, though). Both were sticks. He was always jealous of my truck. A big part of it was the engine. |

Oh thank God you got a domestic. That is really similiar to what the Vue is (same platform) but chevy really did a good job improving the vue to become the equinox. I've driven both and the equinox is light years better. Good job R1 I was about to give up on you. Oh and Dave I love my colorado so why don't we start a forum for buell riders and chevy colorado drivers |

I've never bought a new car(or truck) in my life. The closest I've come is when we bought a one year old PT Cruiser for my wife a couple of years ago. I'll be buying used, and I'm attracted to the Ranger, but I just wanted to hear others opinions and experiences. I had an S-10 Chevy with a 4 cyl. and a 4 speed a few years ago, and it was pretty much trouble free, but I never really warmed up to it. I've been thinking about getting a Ranger for a while now, and it's supposed to be 47 degrees when I leave for work on Monday morning, so I'm starting to think in terms of winter. The six does appeal, though. |

Brian, out the door with basically everything except leather seats & a sunroof it came to $23,800. I didnt think that was too bad at all considering the other vehicles I was looking at.
G...well its not really a domestic, made by those damn Canadians
Dave...its actually pretty quick for being a pretty good sized vehicle. I timed a couple of 0-60 runs right around 8 seconds. |

Crusty, I've bought 7 new Rangers (4x4 supercab XLT) since 1989. The last three have been 4x4 FX4's and I haven't had problems with any of them. They are nice trucks but now I want a F150 4x4 crewcab. I brought one home to see if it would fit in the garage, yeah it did. I'm on my second 2002, the first one was totalled when some kid hit me. I want something bigger so if it happens again I'm not the one getting hurt. |
