Here's a shocker for you...

I'm driving down the freeway and some punk kid in a new Honda Prelude opens up on me with an automatic pellet gun! I was in my 75' truck. Many of the pellets struck my truck and one came through the window and hit me in the face... I can't believe the total disregard these guys showed. I could have been some poor old lady that drove off the road and died thanks to them! It hurt like hell but I'm just glad it wasn't a real gun! They pulled away doing about 100 or more mph and my beast wouldn't keep up. Made me wish I had my gun on me, they would have gotten real bullets back! I usually always carry it too. They were lucky...

Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. For some reason I decided to take my car instead of the bike to work and someone shattered my windshield with either a bb gun or small caliber bullet! Same route, same time every morning. I don't know what made me decide to take the car on such a beautiful day but that decision prolly saved my life!

I was still reelin' from being shot. By the time I looked back up they were getting smaller in front of me...

Get this... I called DPS (The Highway Patrol out here in AZ), and they said, "we don't handle criminal calls sir..."

WHAT? I had just passed a DPS traffic stop about 1/8 mi earlier! He could have caught him!

Solidified in my mind that Highway Patrol is good for nothing but revinue generation. Didn't want to believe it...but I do now!!

Well...

I have a scar from a gunshot wound (training accident)... I have been hit with military grade paintball (got a bruise the size of my fist on my biceps), and hit with simunition (looked like someone took a miniature disk sander to my arm)... it all hurts... and none of it is a joke... Hopefully they will get caught and have some serious interface with the criminal justice system. Down the street from my son's place a few years ago... a kid was walking home from school and some jerks... much like the ones you met, shot him with a paintball... the kid lost an eye!

Keep a watch for traffic... odds are that will not be the last time they travel down that road... maybe you can get a license number if you see them again. Glad to hear you were not seriously injured.

glad to hear you are alright. i would have worked myself into a rage induce heart attack if it was me. i would keep a watchfull eye, like Das said, and then i am all for SM's plan. people that do stuff that stupid deserve to have their right to breathe taken away.

highway patrol's #1 mission is accident response and control. the amount of revenue they produce is a sneeze compared to gas taxes.

GRRRRR!!!!

I've been trying to find a way to mount a Benelli M1-Tactical on my 12R in the tail section...

After I do that, I'll just have to figure out how to fire it w/o going down : ). It's got a pistol grip though so I don't have to put it on my shoulder.

I'm getting a scandium 357 to carry when I ride... It's the perfect motorcycling protection in my mind. VERY light weight (like handle it with 2 fingers), could easily be fired from either hand, and the 357 carries enough punch to get into a car but not throw you from the bike. Definitely my next gun purchase. Probably trade in my P95.

I've discussed this with many an officer. Once a road rager turns his car against you, you have the RIGHT to fire to protect yourself.

Also, the officer told me that a pellet gun is still a "gun" and I would be justified in returning fire in that case as well. If it was a pellet gun I probably wouldn't try and kill the , just cause him to mark his drawers and put a few reminders into his bodywork!

"could easily be fired from either hand"

Have you fired any of the ultra light weight smiths with hot loads??? When you say two fingers... I assume you mean pick it up.. not shoot it!

I am a firearms instructor... and almost 30 years in LE... and I would never characterize a scandium .357 as easy to shoot... well maybe easy to shoot... but right after the grenade like recoil impulse, VERY hard to hold on to and VERY painful! Split times between shots is not so fast.

I am not recoil sensitive... until forced to transition to a .40 Glock, I carried a SIG 229 in .357 SIG and then a midsized Glock in .357 SIG. And shot the hottest .357 mag in my 5 shot stainless steel S&W. I also have a Marlin lever gun in .450 Marlin... and that sucker hurts... I have only once had a person want to fire a second round. After the first, they always hand the rifle back with a funny look on their face and tell me they are finished!

I am not putting the scandium .357 down (other than for price), but the sucker kicks like hell cause it weighs almost nothing... and weight helps absorb recoil. I'd be concerned with trying to keep that sucker in one hand as it was trying to jump out!

It is very doable... but most people who buy one of those, buy them for the weight and hate to shoot more than a few rounds... ever! You also have to shoot only jacketed ammo... as if you use lead ammo... it acts like an inertial bullet puller and due to the ultra light weight will loosen lead bullets from the case. VERY BAD... I am sure you know this!

If that's what you want (and I sooooo want that gun) load it with a hot 125 gr ammo. If you are gonna have it, load it right... be sure and load it hot... otherwise save your money and get a .38 special.

I am jealous... I want one of those little suckers so much!!!

>>>still loving the basket ball sized ball of flame out of the barrel of my .357 SIG Glock

Taking a page from a Playboy exspoe' in 1970 on the .44 Mag, I use very hot 158gr. in 686 w/6" barrel.

I'm pretty good with it, but I cover my bases by insuring that if Imiss everyone in the area will be blind and deaf.

Sure it weighs 14lbs, but it fits so nicely with the right harness and is visually intimidating.

As I tell the kids... the .357 SIG has its plus and minus side.

minus... if you do a lot in low light conditions... not a good caliber choice. The basket ball size ball of flame, that pushes a 125 gr bullet out at 1400 to 1450 fps, will light you up like a neon sign saying "shoot here", and most likely will trash your night vision. Shoot and move!!

plus... if at close range for some reason you miss... not to worry... due to the huge ball of flame blown toward them, they most likely will burn down!

And there are comments like...

"Oh my gawd... who brought a flame thrower to a gun fight!"

Your lucky you weren't hit in the eye.
Maybe travel the same road at the same time in your 75, but have some buds with faster wheels hang with you. F'in punks need their arms broken so mommy has to wipe his for 6 months!
I had something similar happen to me and I'm pissed just reading about your encounter.
(Falling Down... what a great movie)

Did you contact neighboring police departments to see if they have received the same complaint?
Does the highway system in AZ use cameras for traffic watch?

Ahh the sig 229, what a wonderful gun. I like it spicially because I have the "K-Trigger" on mine. ANyway I aggre with Das. If you want the .357 then go for it, but for the price, a airweight .38 with a jacketed hot round will do enough damage without the kick. People ask me about what kind of gun to get all the time. With eight years of LE in my belt the best advise I give is get what feels best and most comfortable in your hand and to you.

Also I would contact the neighboring PD's let them know of this and give them a description of the truck. They might already have leads and your info would be great to them. Then if you see um again, kick their little @$$'s....uh, er, I mean get the plate and call the PD. Just MHO.

5 days a week I ride to work with a 9mm Ruger P95D on my hip. The double takes from drivers and people walking and waiting for the bus, makes me laugh to work and home. It helps to keep people from cutting me off. In the 4 weeks that I have been riding to and from I have not had any problems on the road. I do have some advice for everyone. Do not take the same route and travel at the same times. I work for an armored car co. We are always changing up our routes and I travel to and from home different times and ways.

I would have rammed the SOB's or done my best to find them and kill them with my bare hands in a fit of rage. It pisses me off just hearing about it.

B.T.W. My SIG P229 (.40 S&W)stays at home because of my old fashioned Irish temper. While my race gun, (modified S&W 586) is just for the range.

Sorry, can't say much now, will elaborate later... But I'm a big guy 6'4" 235 LBS. I know about the kick but I can handle it. By 2 fingers, yes I meant handling it not firing. I like the idea of the light weight for carry while riding if not for any other reason.

Shky Jake, I also hip my P95 and I know what you mean... Once I had an appointment to get my .308 re-blued and my wife had the truck. So, I took the rifle to my shop at cross body carry on the BUELL. Should have seen the double takes on that one. This was right during the time of the highway shootings. The little old ladies were having panic attacks at the sight of a Buell rider haulin down the street with scoped rifle.

Charlieboy6649, have not tried the scoped rifle one yet. But I got a kick out of watching my new neighbors faces when I brought all my "toys" in from my truck, after playing at the range. Never got bothered though.

Get this... I called DPS (The Highway Patrol out here in AZ), and they said, "we don't handle criminal calls sir..."

Please follow up on this one. Whoever took your call needs some immediate training in the interest of public safety. Shooting out the window from a moving vehicle at another vehicle is felony assault at a minimum. CC a letter off to the regional office as well as the state attorney general out there and ask them if you are now supposed to take the law into your own hands as it appears that law enforcement only deals with simple traffic infractions now.

Just a thought. Do what you want to do. Next time I hope you see them coming.

Apparently, Mikej, you have never witnessed the wonderful world of AZ "law enforcement". So if you shot a Highway Patrol officer on the highway with a pellet gun they wouldn't come after you? Speaking of weapons, I have been in the market for a 35 lb recurve bow. I used to have a Browning and LOVED it. They no longer make recurves so what other brands should I be looking at?

Apathy knows no hierarchy.
Do nothing and it continues.

If you want a sweet bow look at BlackWidows.
I've got a takedown model of a different brand (I forget the name right now).
Pick up a copy of Traditional Bowhunter magazine for lots of leads to recurves and straight bows.

Black Widows are *really* nice. Haven't shot one, but the workmanship and the reviews are excellent. I have a Martin Take-down (old) and have had plenty of fun and quality shooting with it. They updated the limb mounting system for the (much) better.

That said, a one-piece would likely be smoother.

Some of the Fred Bear recurves look nice for the $$ as well.

Bow? Make your own! There's a book called The Traditional Bowyer's Bible, which will give you detailed information on making your own bows. I've made three, all from ash. Lots of fun, they weigh NOTHING when you're done, and there's always the knowledge that you've made it yourself.

For the basic self bow, you can make a decent bow with a hatchet, a drawknive & a good wood rasp. Highly recomended.

A revolver is a good gun to ride and shoot with. Don't want a semi-auto leaving casings behind for the cops to trace back to you.

That's bad new's man...I know the feeling...not of being shot at, but I once had a car driver purposely try to assault me with their car. There's not much you can do! I wish I had a big hammer to toss at those times.

My 1911 is IMO the best there is. I need a FL carry permit...

I once went to a shooting range with a sack full of pistols/rifles on my bike. All the shooters looked at me curiously.
