this has gotten to be a HUGE debate, when it was just a simple way to quell the topic. That was the goal of the thread, but once I started being insulted (in the other thread), the gloves came off. I wonder if everybody realizes that I'm sitting here laughing my @ss off... - If the race is declined, the declining party(ies) is(are) not allowed to continue posting on the matter. It was worth a shot. |

I don't know guys and gals... Blake seems to be right here (no, this isn't lip service). He didn't pose a challenge in such a way as to say "I'll beat you on your R1". He stated that (I'm paraphrasing here) it would be a good exercise and an eye opening event (which I believe it would be). I remember reading the original 172 thread and that's the way I took it then as well as now. I guess I still don't quite understand his reluctance to go anywhere other than tracks relatively close to him, but if his reason that he stated is correct, that he doesn't really want to lug the bike around too far then fine. I don't really see that as bowing out in the least, he's got a job etc... Dyna did say however, that Blake hasn't got a chance at making a faster lap on "the" track... Does that include battletrax? That statement is definitive. Blake's was not. Blake stated that the rubber advantage MIGHT be as much as a HP advantage, and that it would be interesting to find out. I say the onus is on Dyna to put up or shut up as he's the one that made a black and white statement. I think it would make things a LOT easier however, if Blake were willing to travel a little farther. |

What the heck are you guys arguing about? Do you know? Which one of you is a liar? Are both of you liars? And the MOST insane question...which one is the MOST argumentative? Man I came in to take a peek at what's going on here and got testosterone all in my eye! And for the record...ALL men are liars! It is in the handbook. |

Who said the "M2 handles so well"? Not me. The M2 does smoke once in a while. Greg has gone peculiarly quite. |

Dave, Missed your question about OHR being open in the wintertime. OHR is open year round. Racing season starts in February. |

So I think this should be a winter project for Dyna and me. Make a great roadtrip! Bring the wives(and yes Bobbie you too) and go have some fun in Texas. Be a great get away from the cold and snow for all the northern Badwebbers that want to attend. Dave |

Man I hope this blows over and every one can be friends, I really do feel this started as a tire vs. horsepower conversation, and wish it would have stayed there. That said maybe we could have a UFC style match at the Badweb rally! Blackbelt and M1 Combat I'm coming after you two!!! |

I`ve owned several Buells including an XB12 and i have loved them all. But they are way way out performed by any of the new literbikes from Japan. Just ride one for yourself and see. The Jap bikes are lighter, have a 60-70hp advantage, and corner better than any stock Buell. Buells are still great streetbikes though! |

I can't believe they corner better... Look at the geometry. Too much wheelbase change on the Japanese bikes (and WAY too much unsprung weight on the front). I would maybe agree that they are easier to ride at 95%, but I believe 95% of cornering speed on a japanese bike is more like 90% of a Buells (given the same tires), and 95% of the people who own motorcycles can't bring ANYTHING to 95%. "The Jap bikes are lighter, have a 60-70hp advantage, and corner better than any stock Buell" In my personal experience, this is not true. But yes, the inlines have tons of top end power. |

First of all i don`t even own an R1, i ride Buells. But having ridden an 04 R1 for about 350 miles last week there is no comparison. If you want to hold onto the dream the the XB is faster or corners better, please continue. Just test ride an R1 and see for yourself. Wet weight: XB12 462lbs R1 449 Max torque: XB12 71.9 R1 74.0 Max HP: XB12 93 R1 158 1/4 mile XB12 11.38@117mph R1 10.07@145 Top speed XB12 couldn`t find 150ish R1 184mph Info taken from Mototcyclist magazine Personally i don`t even like the R1, but facts are facts and there is no way a stock Buell is going to beat a stock R1 around a racetrack given equal riders. |

Silly question, very late into this thread - Blake, you're talking about "DOT" race tires such as Michelin Pilot Race? Or slicks? Just curious, lemonchili

Cr250... Nobody says the XB is faster (well, nobody in their right mind). You can LOOK at the bike and tell that it handles better. One just needs to learn how to ride it because it's slightly unconventional. Are you familiar with the term unsprung weight? How about suspension geometry? Go look them up and find out how they apply to motorcycles. BTW - That R1 had a steering damper... A band-aid. Put a steering damper on the XB so you can compare apples to apples, or better yet, take the damper off the R1 . On a side note... Why don't they test the skidpad capabilities of bikes? It would just require a large circle and you just ride around that circle as fast as you can. Whichever achieves the fastest speed wins. Standardize on a certain circle size, warm up the tires and lean it over for ten laps... Of course, this wouldn't really expose the REAL benefit of the XB. You would have to put a bump in the pavement . |

it's tough to measure bike performance on a skid pad, but, if memory serve, Car and Driver did it back in the silly old days (when they had a sense of adventure and humor) -- cars won, of course skid pad is a good measure of a vehical's ability to go around in a constant circle, and not much else -- the variables that apply to bikes that don't apply to cars are numerous, and tough to factor out, bike to bike -- how far off is the rider hanging is one that comes to mind not much of a measure of handling, but easliy quantifiable, for cars, at any rate -- lap times with the same rider I believe is still the best way to measure bike handling -- lacking that, go to a rally like the Honda Hoot and smaple as many as you can (ten minutes on a Vrod made me understand that I wouldn't be buying one anytime soon, but those Aprillias are aces!) |
