when a customer orders a part you don't have in stock, a common easily broken part, do you automatically check to see if its listed as a back order part?

In my experience, not unless you ask them to...

You would also hope and expect them to keep at least one in stock if it is known to be "a common easily broken part", but alas...

We don't unless they ask.
BUT
We do get a report from H-D or any other company that tells us of parts that are and we call up the customer to let them know.

I have a feeling that a certain individual with the initials D & S will fill this void for us.

A dealer who did not stock a shift lever would get a clear glimpse of my butt promptly.

The message, at that point, has been sent. If you didn't get it, it's your fault.

Court the counter man was suprised he was out of them, which was probably my first clue it was out of stock.

Dave, its a bit moot for it now. I wanted to switch back to my stock pegs so I could travel with my saddlebags. For short stints the Freespirits are fine with the saddlebags and I can cope...for 14 hours roundtrip...not going to work. I knew I should have asked/called you last week Dave...its what I get for trying to save on shipping...
