Almost 400 miles for myself & the wife rd trip, Newguy was over 400 miles. Lot of riding & a lot of walking.

from left to right..My wife, Nancy, Newguy, CJ...what we lacked in numbers we made up for in fun.

They have these big urns with dragons on them all over the grounds

Newguy contemplating just what he got himself into while Nancy signs her life away.

No this pic is not blurry, this is what you actually start to see everything as after 4 hrs of walking thru this place.

The ladies cant ever resist a photo op.

If you are into Frank Lloyd Wright, his first home that he did while still a senior at Boy's Tech HS in Milwaukee is in New Berlin on Sunny Slope Road, about 2-3 Blocks south of Greenfield. Nothing fancy from the outside but the double concrete exterior block walls with a walkway in between make it a Modern Day Marvel.

Got that from a friend whose uncle went to School with FLW and worked on the construction of the home. Of interest, my friend did lots of R&R on the place throughout the years.

Cataract...Is in Spring Green, Wisconsin which is WSW of Madison, WI (not all that far from the Buell Factory). The pics only show a little of the building and it is one of Frank Lloyd Wright's more photogenic projects.

Suggest you do a Search on Frank Lloyd Wright and you may find some of his works in your area. We had a lot of them in CA when I lived out there.

I am lost are you saying that FLW designed House on the Rock.
"Designed and built by Alex Jordan of Madison, WI, the House is an architectural marvel perched on a 60-foot chimney of rock. Begun in the early 1940's"

FLW House Talisen is down the road from house on the rock, from memory.

Paul, correct you are as CJ pointed out. It was late when I read the post & too was wondering about the FLW mention.

Its obvious that Jordans style was severly influenced by Wright, but there is no comparison between the 2 of them.

This is inside one of the many "rooms" in the house. Streets of yesteryear or some deal.

Whole place is rather dark.

There is this type stuff everywhere that plays music. This one played Octopus's garden.

This is a life sized whale with Jona & his boat in its mouth. Impossible to get a pic showing the entire whale.

Fiery & Newguy hanging out.

Angels everywhere

The carousel

The carousel is the largest in the world & has no horses on it. Just weird dragons & stuff like this.

Skeleton of a horse & its rider..dont know what it was doing there

This is actually a carnivorous animatronic deer that played a cymbal out its @ss: D

FLW and Jordan did not get along. It is said that jordan built the place where he did because he knew Wright would hate it.

If you're a fan of Frank Lloyd Wright's work, come to Quasqueton a little town just off Highway 20 between Waterloo and Dubuque, IA.

This is the only FLW signature home in the world that is open to the public FREE of charge.

The site is called the Walter's Residence and we all owe Mr. Walters!! He's the guy that invented the equipment and process to lay asphalt pavement!!

When the Walters' pasted away they left the home to the state of Iowa and is now maintaned by the DNR. It's a signature home because Wright's signature is in one of the tiles near the front entry which means he not only designed the home but also the grounds, the furniture, everything, right down to the china.

You can tour the house but you can't sit on the furniture, the sofa is a one of a kind and is insured for over $500,000. But the home is surprisingly accessable and gives you a great glimpse into FLW design.

The road that goes by it is one of my favorites as well, lots of twisties!!

Wow...did I screw up. I have the House on the Rock confused with something else. Now, I have to go figure out what it is.

Thanks for catching my error!

When I visited Talisen near Spring Green in September 2001 that was one thing that blew me away was the House is still in use as a house, and you could sit at FLW desk etc. On the tour we looked at a bedroom that was in use by one of his decendants at the time.
Awsome designer.

I think you were thinking of FLW's Taliesin in Spring Green.

http://www.taliesinpreservation.org/

I used to go to both the House on the Rock, and Taliesin back in the early sixties, while living in Beloit.

We would talk to Alex Jordan in the early days and a tour of the House on the Rock was $1.00.

P&J...Thanks that is the structure I was thinking of. Whew, right Church...Wrong Pew. I feel better now. Never been to either but read about them.

Dated a tchotchke collector about three years ago that provided info overload on the House on the Rock at Christmas time, that I went into brain fade and got the two mixed up. Needless to say, she is history.
